Movie talk
The shoes are silver in Wicked, IIRC.

I'm watching The Jerk and I wish I had Lilo & Stitch. I love that movie.
False. In the play Elphaba turns them ruby before the second act (act 2 is basically The Wzard of Oz from a different perspective)
In the book they are silver the whole time.
Get over it.
Tuffy the Dump Truck may rarely increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. The risk may be greater if you have heart disease or increased risk for heart disease (for example, due to smoking, family history of heart disease, or conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes), or with longer use. Tuffy should not be taken right before or after heart bypass surgery. Also, Tuffy may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. This effect can occur without warning symptoms at any time while taking Tuffy. Older adults may be at higher risk for this effect. (See also Precautions and Drug Interactions sections.) Stop taking Tuffy and get medical help right away if you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects: bloody or black/tarry stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, chest/jaw/left arm pain, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes, slurred speech. Ask your doctor if Tuffy is right for you.
I just recently watched that movie 2 Fridays in a row. Awesome. It's one of my favorite stupid comedies.
He hates these cans!

My favorite part in the whole movie!
Hey! These cans are defective!
This is the Internet. He was trying to show me up. Mine was a natural response. I don't actually care.
He wasn't trying to show you up.
"I'm glad I live in the GPS era. In a different century, I would've set off to visit the other side of the village and wandered off into the mountains and been eaten by a carnivorous plant. Or discovered the Americas."

If you think Ludwig is the kind of guy to try to show you up, you don't know Ludwig.
Went to see Identity Thief, it was okay! Laughed a lot at some bits.
Was pretty uncomfortable how many times she was hit by a man in the film though. Didn't really need that, it had funny bits that didn't rely on her being insulted/assaulted!

My favorite part-
All I need is my remote, this lamp, my dog shithead,...
Something like that, I'm paraphrasing.
I don't need anything.
Are there boys in here arguing their manlyhood over an issue of silver or ruby ladies slippers?
Awesome.
Yeah, The Jerk is an awesome movie. The first time I watched it I was probably a Freshman or Sophomore in high school. It's definitely one of those movies that you can just re-watch and it never gets old.
the shoes are silver in wicked-the musical, like ALL THE TIME !!!!
*shakes fists at mike*
I don't remember the color of the shoes in the musical, because I'm a boy. I just remember laughing a lot and the girl I brought was really happy.
I'm watching The Grandmaster, Wong Kar-Wai's newest film.
I liked wicked but the musical that made me really really happy was singing in th rain. So cute, I smiled during the whole show.
Going to watch Syriana for the first time soon.
I saw it for the first time a week or two ago, Imke, and really enjoyed it.
we are going to watch Invasion of Astro Monster today.
The Stuff = wonderful movie. saw it as a kid with a favorite gf who had the best vhs collection. watched it again with my own kid in the past couple years.
because of her family's spending i was also able to see Demons by Dario Argento. also Wonderful.
another motorcycle massacre follows:

I've only been to 3 musicals.
- Wicked
- Les Mis
- and this trailer park one at Christina's school. I don't remember the name of it, but it was hilarious.
Me and the bloke went OUT and saw Oz the Great and Powerful. I thought it was good. The ending was super sweet, almost too sweet.
My favorite musical was the only one I ever saw on Broadway.
I saw Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (2005 Starring John Lithgow and Norbert Leo Butz).
The movie it's based on is really good too. (1980s Starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin)
But if you have the option, see the original movie called Bedtime Story (1960s Starring David Niven and Marlon Brando)
Awwwww I just finishes watching Safety Not Guaranteed and I adored it! I gave it five stars on Netflix which is practically unheard of! (Not true, I am very easily impressed, but in this case it earned it and thensome.)
It was cute, wasn't it?
Lovely, it's left me feeling very smily.
Dario Argento is brilliant.
And I have been preaching from the mountain tops about Safety Not Guaranteed.

I honestly can not remember how many I have seen.
It's pathetic really.
The cast parties are pretty awesome though.

Singin' in the Rain is one of my favorite movie musicals. I would love to watch it on Broadway/theater. It's also one of my favorite songs to sing.
I watched The Sessions. It's about a polio stricken man in an iron lung trying to lose his virginity.
It was meh for me. I didn't find Mark to be all that witty or charming. And because it's based on a true story, the side stories about his Asian caretaker and the sex therapist's home life felt tacked on.
The movie is an absolute classic and one of the happiest films ever made.
If you like musicals, I can recommend Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, also with Gene Kelly (and George Chakiris), but with a French touch [link includes subtitle option]:
Note : I did my military service in the Navy in Rochefort, so it is a very special film for me.

I'm going to have to watch that later. I started it but I have to get ready for our early Easter celebration.
I saw The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou this morning and liked it.
If you like that one, you'll like all of Wes Anderson's movies. That the most self-indulgent one i think.
I loved The Royal Tenenbaums when I was a teenager, liked Fantastic Mr. Fox and found Moonrise Kingdom really beautiful. I've yet to see his other movies, only Darjeeling Limited and its prequel are on my list so far.
I finished As Tears Go By, Wong Kar-Wai's first movie, and with this I have seen everything he has directed. Easily my favourite director.
The IFC Center downtown is having a Kubrick retrospective, and yesterday we went to a screening of The Killing, which was great to see on a big screen.
Hoping to go see Barry Lyndon on Tuesday night and maybe The Shining on Thursday. I've already seen The Shining in a theater but my husband hasn't, and you can't really see The Shining too many times, I think.
I got Barry Lyndon for £4 in HMV recently, but haven't watched it yet. Let me know what you think!
I've never actually seen it before either! I'll let you know
we watched Bedeviled (2010), a Korean show, yesterday which was infuriating.
started House of Psychotic Women (1974) this morning. i'll get to finish it tonight.
will get to Feed (2005) maybe this weekend.
Death Walks on High Heels (1971)
i want to see the supposedly fabulous Luciano Rossi in this one.
I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey and almost cried when he shut down HAL.
I could post about this movie in the Documentary thread, but nobody would care.
I went to the movies yesterday and saw Stories We Tell. I really enjoyed it!
In this inspired, genre-twisting new film, Oscar®-nominated writer/director Sarah Polley discovers that the truth depends on who's telling it. Polley is both filmmaker and detective as she investigates the secrets kept by a family of storytellers. She playfully interviews and interrogates a cast of characters of varying reliability, eliciting refreshingly candid, yet mostly contradictory, answers to the same questions. As each relates their version of the family mythology, present-day recollections shift into nostalgia-tinged glimpses of their mother, who departed too soon, leaving a trail of unanswered questions. Polley unravels the paradoxes to reveal the essence of family: always complicated, warmly messy and fiercely loving. Stories We Tell explores the elusive nature of truth and memory, but at its core is a deeply personal film about how our narratives shape and define us as individuals and families, all interconnecting to paint a profound, funny and poignant picture of the larger human story.
That looks really good Imke, I am glad you posted it, I am going to see if I can find it or whatever.
It made me imagine all the different ways the different people in my family would describe the past and describe whatever specific secret was asked to be diviluged, if interviewed separately.
Was sold out! I guess I'm watching the DVD instead
I'm watching the Lion King; I've cried 6000 times already and we're only at hakuna matata. Scar is the worst ever, he is so horrible. Wtf Disney. The worst.
Sounds like you appreciate that movie almost as much as I do.

Yeah but this movie is weird - Oscar's wannabe girlfriend is wearing a checkered white and blue dress, there's a tornado in Kansas that takes him to Oz... And what's up with the porcelain doll? I don't remember if she was in the book, probably not. I liked her, though.
