Movie talk
Side Effects was good
Oz is in 3D!
So, it's pretty high on my list. And read 12 books out 14 of the series, in elementary school. One of my fav authors of all time.
I'm voting Oz.
This is why we can't have nice things.
WHAT? There are 14 Oz books?!
Oh at least.
You haven't read all of them?
This is why we can't have nice things.
I've only read one - The Wonderful Wizard of Oz! I didn't know there were more.
That wasn't even the first one.
This is why we can't have nice things.
That was the only one that was translated here, it was among the first real books I've read before starting school.
Have you read Wicked, Irina?
Nope.
http://movies.yahoo.com/news/christopher-nolans-interstellar-jointly-dis...
Christopher Nolan's upcoming "Interstellar" is a picture so big it's going to take two studios to release it.
Does that mean the music noise is gonna be twice as loud?
He should do a movie about deaf people. And the very first thing that happens in the theater when the film starts is BBBBENNNNNNDEEEEEENNNNNNN which makes you go deaf and you have to watch the whole movie deaf. It'd be a mindfuck. For real. It'd leave your brain ringing. Tinnitus.
I went to see The Guilt Trip in the end. It was nice and it had its funny bits.
i've wanted to see this Kuroneko for over a year. thought it would happen yesterday, but they couldn't find the disc now that i have a player.
Hi chewandswallow!
What is your name?
I have seen you online and posting here and there and you seem pretty cool and alright, but I don't know anything about you.
Ok before I say anything, I promise no spoilers.
I just saw Cabin In The Woods and I have a bone to pick with you guys. You guys generally agreed that it was great but the ending sucked. I really really liked it. The ending was the only way it could and should have gone. I felt it (well the whole movie really) had a Michael Haneke feel to it.
I don't remember the ending but I really enjoyed Cabin in the Woods!
I'm watching Thunderbolt and Lightfoot because Clint Eastwood and a young Jeff Bridges.
Oh, I like this film very much. Jeff Bridges has been very popular since The Big Lebowski, but he was fantastic at the beginning of his career (from The Last Picture Show to Tron), but scandalously underrated. Also Geoffrey Lewis and George Kennedy and the antitank gun.

I watched There Will Be Blood last night (yeah, I hadn't seen it yet), and it was really good.
8/10
I saw that one a few days ago, Imke, and I was impressed, too.
Yeah, he did great in this film. I was impressed to watch Jeff Bridges before he was The Dude. I'm not a big Clint Eastwood fan but I enjoyed him in this movie probably for the same reason I enjoyed watching Jeff Bridges before he was Jeff Bridges.
My favourite Jeff Bridges film is The Fabulous Baker Boys, the chemistry with his brother Beau is rejoicing. And Michelle Pfeiffer...
Oh Michelle.

I'm watching Twelve Monkeys. FUCK BEAR SCENE.

I loved everything about the movie - including the ending. I don't know if I posted that I didn't before. I know some people did. But yeah, it's now one of my favorite movies.
Juan of the Dead.
Yep.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I don't like The Big Lebowski. At all. Am I the only one?
Yes.
This is why we can't have nice things.
WTF Jess.
I'm not perfect!
I didn't like The Big Lebowski either.
*ducks*
The guy I was seeing at the time was obsessed with it. The relationship didn't last.
It's a seminal film.
He said Seminal. Heh!
I never seent it.
It is very good, but not as much as Raising Arizona, Miller's Crossing or Fargo.

I was very impressed by The Truman Show, and even Slumdog Millionaire. I expected to hate the latter, but I didn't, it was really a wonderful story.
I've also noticed that watching quite a few Asian movies recently has helped with my tolerance. Helped a lot.
I saw Children of Glory and Hero today. I'm going to the cinema tomorrow to see The Child's Pose, this year's Golden Bear.
Yeah, you're not the only one jes. I just don't see what's so great about it. I don't understand the obsession when so many other Coen Bros movies are obviously better.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
It is probably the funniest Coen Bros. film...
This is why we can't have nice things.
It really ties the other Coen Brothers films together.
WTF, Harriet!
WTF, Ritt!
WTF, Lib!
My brother disliked it. And watching it with him killed it for me. But a week later, I watched it with friends and boy was it hysterical!
It really is a movie that builds a community. Lebowskifest anyone? They have it every year.
I forgot what I was going to say in here because of all the Lebowski fails. I'm gonna go drink a white russian and try to forget that any of this happened.
It's just such a quotable movie.
"You want a toe? I can get you a toe."
Okay I'm going to rewatch the Big Lebowski at some point soon. Because I didn't like it when I saw it either. One more chance since everyone is so passionate about it
I liked the idea of it, but just found it a bit overrated. I've only seen it once so perhaps I should watch it again too.
To be honest, I'm not a massive fan of the Coen brothers anyway. I like their films, but I don't love them.
There's layers of comedy to that movie. Like when The Dude gets his car back after it's stolen so he's driving it and jamming Creedence and smoking a joint and he goes to flick the joint out the window because he sees he's being followed but the window is rolled up because it's stuck and the cop who returned his car told him the window was stuck not that long ago so the joint hits the window and bounces back into The Dude's lap and he freaks out and pours a beer on his lap (an open beer he was drinking while driving) and then he slams into a dumpster.
Same here, I guess. I've also been asked to give Garden State another shot. Can we talk about that for a bit? It's... overrated, right? Am I crazy?

Child's Pose was amazing. Very good actors, the leading lady is spectacular, the story and the way it's depicted, peppered with samples of corruption, is really strong. It IS a festival film and it IS an award-worthy film.
Please watch it if it comes to your town - it will be screened in certain American cities, as well. And the subtitling is very well done, I saw the version with English subtitles.

I'm the opposite with Garden State - I used to love it, now I hate it! It makes me cringe. Tried watching it recently and I just felt embarrassed.

I'm tempted to go see Oz with my sister at the cinema, although I also want to watch our film this weekend, the one that won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale.
