Movie talk
I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer the movie on tv last last. Was Buffy supposed to be such an annoying bitch? Anyway, it was better than I'd anticipated.
Watched the movie version of The Dark Knight Returns. It's very clear that Frank Miller is a crazy person.
L.A. Confidential this morning. Did not read the book.
Beasts of the Southern Wild gave me goosebumps and movies never give me goosebumps anymore. I thought it was beautiful. Best 2012 movie by far.
I got a 5/16, but in reality I got a zero because I guessed on every single one of them.

My boyfriend got 13/16 on that quiz. I wouldn't have got any except with guesses.
I think I got a 4 or 5. But, really, I only knew 2 of them. I guessed on everything else.
Safety Not Guaranteed. I really really liked it. Julie Powers from Scott Pilgrim was awesome. (Aubrey Plaza)
One thing to SNG's credit is that while I hate the "liar reveal" story telling device in movies, SNG did it in a unique way that I didn't expect and therefore didn't mind. I applaud this movie.
What are your thoughts on mentally disturbed individuals in movies? I kind of am disappointed that movie makers feel they need to give a reason to someone being weird. Like in Silver Linings Playbook. I've never seen it, but from what I know, the girl's brother is dead and that's why she's weird. Can't she just be weird just because that's the kind of person she is?
Everyone has a reason for being weird though.
And as long as it's a movie, you might as well make it an interesting reason.
It's part of a engine. The writer needs reasons to drive the character. To create dynamics between characters and give depth. Also, to endear and/or give insight to the audience for character.
Explanations for character motives are kind of an insurance, that people will become emotionally invested in the story.
Unless...
you are an odd ball pop actor like Johnny Depp or Christopher Walken. Then people just except it with little explanation. Because they are already emotionally invested in the performance.
Geez I haven't even watched it yet. It seemed like loads of spoilers up there.
I'm watching Silence of the Lambs.
Where? Everything that's been said is in the trailer. I haven't even seen it yet.
I watched Frankenweenie. It was fun! 7/10
Your avatar is fun, too, Imke!

I said seemed, at a glance it looked like there was spoilers.
I want to see that. Everyone always says "Amy! Henry is in Frankenweenie!" but I don't see the resemblance!
Frankenweenie FTW.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Watching Seven Psychopaths

Jennifer Lawrence struck me as a weird person in general in SLP, her husband's death just made her worse. Same with Bradley Cooper. Part of his looniness comes from his superstitious dad, i thought. Then his wife cheats and he loses it even more. That was a great movie, by the way.
Just got back from the gym after seeing SLP. I really liked it but
************************SPOILERS YOU BASTARDS!!!************************
I thought the genre kind of got in its own way. The mental issues really touched me but everything (including the dance competition results) ended a little too fairy tale ending for me. Kind of like the Choke movie.

Two White Stripes songs in the movie means I loved the movie.
Big S, has a nice new avatar, too. Hushpuppy!
Watching The Rescuers Down Under. Haven't seen this movie since I was younger than the little blond kid.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
I never saw those movies but I loved the picture books.
I just watched the first three Planet of the Apes movies. I love the first one. The other two were okay. The last less okay than the second.
Although the last one had 200% more baby chimpanzees than the other two combined so...
You're talking about the newer Planet of the Apes?
Nah, the one with Charlton Heston and the two after it. Although I did see the newer one when it came out. Didn't like it much. But might actually enjoy it more now if I rewatch it.
Tyler?

The original?
The first one, is my favorite movie ever.
Tyler?
That's obviously not the little blond kid he's talking about. She is clearly a brunette past puberty.
The first one, is my favorite movie ever.
Planet of the Apes? Yes! It's one of mine now too.
I watched it as a favor to a friend but didn't expect to get into it. It's fucking amazing though! Everything about it is perfect. PERFECT. All because the story is perfect. The makeup, special effects, 60's overacting, none of it detracts at all from anything. And the ending... oh god the ending... I don't have to tell you about the ending.
Yes. It is...perfect.
and, yes.. the ending. My God. What an end.
Damn you all. You blew it all to hell!
The Master was really cool. I'm a PT Anderson fanatic so i'm biased but i loved the whole thing. It was so weird and the music was great and the story perplexed me. Really good. And if Daniel Day Lewis hadn't been up for an Oscar, Joaquin Phoenix would have won it.
Been waiting for the right mood to watch The Master. It looks brilliant.
Me too.
Also, last night we got drunk and sang Les Mis songs. This one girl nailed this little number in particular...

We had to stop and applaud. It was magical.

I saw Inglourious Basterds and Billy Elliot today. Both amazing movies which I have no idea why I've waited so much for.
Inglorious Basterds is awesome.
I'd be curious to know what's so hot about it.

'Murica.
Kicking Hitler's ass.
QED
This is why we can't have nice things.
The build up is pretty great.
And it's fun to laugh at history's biggest cunts once in a while.
When you realsie your reaction to Hitler being shot up is exactly the same as the bastard reaction he was having to the film he was watching right before... that is pretty funny.
Melondy (ScribblinDes) would like it hereby known to one and all that...
She is a giggling Twihard Fangirl
She has the world's biggest collection of Jacob/Edward slash-fiction
Skinny pouty boys in glitter makeup make her feel all squiggly in the knees
She has permanently bonded with Renesme
K-Stew is, like, the very bestest actress in this universe or any other.
From now on her new Cult name is MistessDarkVampyBell
This is why we can't have nice things.
I have never hidden the fact that I've read and enjoyed the Twilight books, terrible though they may be. I came here to tell you all that I just watched the last Twilight movie. Feel free to make fun of me. It was a bit terrible, as expected, especially since Kristen Stewart is in it, she's so awful. I'm sorry, I mean I love my awesome besty K-stew.

I miss Star Wars. I don't feel like digging out a VCR so I'm considering buying the movies on Bluray. Yeah yeah George Lucas ruined the movies by adding special effects. I don't care. I miss them.
Why the hell aren't you two together again?
I love Billy Elliot. It's secretly one of my favorite movies of all time. Well was a secret til now. I watched it the other day and was so stuck on it. I can watch that movie on repeat if I owned it.
Today I watched Kung Fu Panda 2, Signs, Dazzle(a fairy movie), and now I'm watching Tiptoes with with Peter Dinklage! I love that guy and Gary Oldman who is always pretty awesome.
I'm not sure whether I should expect Iron Man 3 to be better than the second one. I like the trailer, but trailers tend to be good.
My dilemma is if I should go see Iron Man 3 or The Place Beyond The Pines at the movies in April?
I forgot to say I saw Stoker on Friday! It was awesome, I loved it. I was left feeling a lot more unsettled by it than I thought I'd be. It was great.
Don't know what to see tomorrow night: Oz, Side Effects, Broken City or Guilt Trip. I feel mildly interested in all of them but not passionately drawn to any of them. Hmmm.

Woot, Hitchcock is already in cinemas here. Stoker opens at the end of March.
