Movie talk
I happened to see it a few years ago (maybe 10) during a John Ford cycle on some movie channel. It was originally a play (based on a novel) and Fonda had created the character on stage. John Ford knew the Navy very well (he was injured during the battle of Midway and was made admiral for his service during WW2) but fell sick and was replaced by Mervyn LeRoy.
I have memories of a pleasant film, but not one of Ford's masterpieces (my favourite being She Wore a Yellow Ribbon).

It is a great film.

Ruby Sparks was really good.
I watched Identity Theft and Jack Reacher last night. For some reason there has been a mix up twice when we we've gone to the movies and we've ended up in other movies. Anyway, it's been fun just to get out of the house, eat junk food, and watch some flicks on the big screen.
Watched District 9, Blindness (based on Saramago's book), The Wrestler and Eros yesterday. Liked them all, minus the alien movie. The Wrestler was surprisingly good, and then I saw it was directed by Aronofsky and everything made sense.
You didn't like District 9? Why not? I really liked that movie.
Not as much as I liked the other three. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't my type. On the other hand, I really liked Heat, and my classmate believed I would find it super-boring.
Watching The Deer Hunter now.
I like that you're going through all these movies Irina.
I also watched The Lives of Others last night and it was very well done. At some point I was purposefully ignoring the subtitles to see how much I understood. It only worked for very few expressions and words
That's a great movie!
It is, I really enjoyed it. Today I'll see V for Vendetta and 187.
I love the movie V for Vendetta.
Almost as much as I love the graphic novel.
The Good Doctor was awesome.
I saw Side Effects. I love Steven Soderbergh, it was really good. And it was only us and one other couple in the theatre last night. They brought in their own food, it was noodles or something. It was kind of a ghetto theatre, actually. The marquee outside wasn't even lit up properly. We ate a warm pickle that we then dropped on the floor so we didn't finish it and had a soda because we were using a gift card and we maxed that bitch out, hood-rich style. There's 25 cents left on it. We left the pickle on the floor.
I love that movie.
That movie was really good for a comedy!
I thought so too. I'm pretty sure it got terrible reviews. But I found it really entertaining and different. Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper were great in it. Christina really enjoyed that book too.
It has a 92% on rotten tomatoes and is up for several Oscars. It actually got really great reviews.

I saw Fallen Angels and The Big Lebowski today and loved them both.
I have never seen any of the films of Mighty Ducks trilogy.
I am completely okay with this.
Tuffy the Dump Truck may rarely increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. The risk may be greater if you have heart disease or increased risk for heart disease (for example, due to smoking, family history of heart disease, or conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes), or with longer use. Tuffy should not be taken right before or after heart bypass surgery. Also, Tuffy may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. This effect can occur without warning symptoms at any time while taking Tuffy. Older adults may be at higher risk for this effect. (See also Precautions and Drug Interactions sections.) Stop taking Tuffy and get medical help right away if you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects: bloody or black/tarry stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, chest/jaw/left arm pain, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes, slurred speech. Ask your doctor if Tuffy is right for you.
Alecia, I tried to see The Dreamers three times, got bored halfway through. I did enjoy the book, though.

I stand corrected.
Maybe I was just thinking of the few random friends that might have seen it?

For God's sake. Soft hands!
But coach! One outta five!
Goldberg!!
It wasn't me!
I was being sarcastic! You know what that means?
(sarcastic voice) Nooooooooo.
I grew up on the first two Duck movies.
Aww yeaah! The Child's Pose won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale Film Festival. Go Romania!
The movie tells the story of a fatal accident involving a child and the driver's mother who tries to bribe everyone to help her son escape prison. They say the actress makes an exceptional role, and I can't wait to see the movie. Unfortunately it won't be out for another few months.
It opens in March! I'm so excited!
So when do people usually weep during Up? I saw the whole movie and it didn't happen. I feel cheated!
It's the beginning. The story of him and his wife. Total tear-jerker.
Meh. I cried at Wall-E, though. Only emotional moment I found was when he discovers that Ellie had put pictures of their marriage in the Things I Am Going To Do section, like that would've been her great adventure, instead of Paradise Falls.
That mini movie of their life at the beginning is heart breaking.
Finally got to watch Argo. I fell asleep last time because we started watching it so late, and I didn't remember any of it. I really enjoyed it watching it yesterday and thought it was a good movie. 8/10
Last night we watched Ronin, which was alright. 7/10
Watched End of Watch and didn't like it.
The wife kept on waking me up during "Zero Dark Thirty" (I think I was snoring) but the parts I saw were pretty boring. I don't get why critics love this director--the only other movie of her's I watched watched was Hurt Locker and, other than the explosions, I really didn't like that one either.
I loved D'Jango Unchained.
I caught the last half hour of Killing Lincoln on National Geographic and want to see the rest of it. It's a historical reenactment but pretty well done--want to see the rest of it.
Absolute proof that Irina's a robot.

That and my crying during Wall-E... you might be on to something.
I watched Carandiru and Train of Life today, and since I've also done enough reading for the day and it's just 7 pm, I'll see The Hobbit, finally.
Up did not make me cry either.
^5.
I barely felt anything during Wall-E. I felt more in those first few minutes of Up.

I watched this yesterday and last week. I really want to watch 2 and 3 but they're only playing the first one right now.
I watched Amour yesterday and thought it was a really good movie. I didn't feel like it dragged at all. 8/10
Oh my God, VHS was stupid and annoying. Who told me it was scary?
I agree! It got a bunch of hype for some reason, and it made no sense. If the stories were tied together somehow, it might have been all right. And the idea of it all being on a VHS tape was ruined when one of the stories is a webchat...
IMDB could've told you it sucks!
I watched In The Valley of Elah this morning. I didn't particularly like the "twist" at the end, and I wasn't a fan of Charlize Theron's character, but Tommy Lee Jones did a really good job, which made up for it. 7/10.
Yeah and then on the webchat, she kept asking "did you record it" and he kept saying no. THEN HOW ARE WE SEEING IT. That's when i quit watching. It was too much with all of the overacting and shitty camera work. And it was minimally creepy. Not at all scary.
I saw Schindler's List today.
Oh I forgot about her saying that. I kept thinking the same thing.
Her, "Did you record that?"
Me, "Well, yeah, duh."
Him, "No, I'm sorry."
Me, "Wait, what?"
Such a powerful movie. What did you think?
I liked some of V/H/S. Liked the one in the woods, loved the vampire one, most loved the guys who go to that house for the halloween party. Ti West's was a bit of a disappointment though. We noticed that about the web chat at the end, too. Kind of a massive plot hole.

It's probably the best film I've seen that no one ever seems to have heard of, let alone listing it as a best film.
It's an accurate portrayal of war, but not one shot is fired or is there any blood in it. The shots on the ocean and beach are beautiful. Everyone in it is an interesting character, even the basically faceless crew are each unique. It's loaded with so much humour, that when the drama develops it hits that much closer. The conflict between the captain and Roberts perfectly reflects the pettiness and futility of fighting, but it also reflects everyone's idea of the time about needing to go off and fight, and still yet it also shows how folks from 80 years ago are pretty much the same as they are now.
It's just a wonderful little capsule of everything that's good and bad with humanity. Or more accurately maybe, what's good and bad about masculinity.
Yeah, it's no Citizen Kane or The Godfather as far as films go, but it deserves more attention than it's gotten over the years.
That's why I'd force everyone to see it, because I figure they'd already see all those other "Greatest Films of All Times" but that one is probably going to slip by unnoticed.
