Movie talk
We go to this movie theatre close to home that always has coupons for buy one ticket, get one free, and with that you also get buy one get one popcorn and a drink. They have free refills on popcorn and drinks, so we just get the small sizes. We always stop by Dollar General on the way because they have the EXACT same candy as the movie theatre, but at $1 per box as opposed to $4 or $5. I just put the candy in my big purse.
Romania has never heard of refills, except at IKEA.
I go to the cinema on the premiere day if I'm dying to see the movie, like I did with Cloud Atlas, The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spiderman, for instance, or on Wednesdays, when there's a 2 for 1 promotion if your phone operator is Orange. Other European Culties may know about Orange Film, too.
How do you think I have a few thousand titles on my Kindle? I'm young, I have no job, it's not easy to find the books I want in libraries, English books are twice or thrice as expensive than books in Romanian here (House of Leaves is $35, for instance). As long as I'm not spreading them, I think pirating and live streaming are on the same page.
I pay for live streaming, I don't see how they are at all the same. And I'm surprised that you pirate books.
Am I the only one around here who doesn't believe in pirating and doesn't do it?

Here's my deal with it:
I spend £14.99 a month on a cinema card so I can see as many new films as I want. I pay about the same for Sky Movies channels. I am also on Lovefilm and Netflix which my boyfriend and I share. I will occasionally rent from iTunes too. We watch loads of films because it's the thing we enjoy the most so all these things are justified by how much we use them.
If I can't get a film I want from any of these places and it's not because it just isn't released yet then I'll pirate it because I pay so much and so does my boyfriend that if that film isn't available on any of these platforms I would otherwise have to buy it, which is not exactly fair and I feel ripped off. Most of the time though I've only downloaded films I've seen before or if I really needed to watch something for a class, because it makes me feel very nervous and I'm not keen.
I always download TV shows though. I'm not sure how bad to feel about it! I don't know. I don't want to wait 6 months or a year to see Dexter on UK TV. I mean Breaking Bad wasn't even being shown over here for ages! Since series 2 or something. It's been picked back up now but they're miles behind!
I have no excuse for Game of Thrones though. It airs in Romania the next day after the US, but we only have one tv in the house, in my parents' room, so I'd rather watch the sex and gore parts in my room.
I don't think Girls is on tv here, maybe on HBO Comedy. Not sure.
I use my mom's Netflix and we use Haley's dad's HBO Go and we use my best friend's Hulu Plus and my best friend uses my Amazon Prime. Is that bad to do as well? Is Amazon or Netflix losing money from that? I doubt it.
I'm about to cancel my cable and will probably use a friend's HBO Go to watch Game of Thrones. This is only because I don't have an option to subscribe to only HBO. And as far as sharing accounts, I don't see a problem with it. If you have a house full of people they are all going to use the same account, so I see nothing wrong with a few single folks sharing.

I rarely watch television and movies, and I have no kindle or otherwise (and own a good six hundred books, so my own physical library is plenty full), and no iPod or the like.( My laptop is about the only piece of entertainment technology I personally own)
I don't really pirate anything at all ever, for these reasons, but I also don't have any real firm stance on it one way or the other.
I ripped a bunch of cd's I borrowed from the library. Does that count?

You monster.

I don't have a firm stance,either. I don't give a rip (harhar!) what other people do.
I used to not want a Kindle, but I've loved it ever since I got one as a gift . I have between 600 and 700 physical books, and Drew brought about 100 to the marriage, so we're overflowing with "real" books (I won't part with any of them, ever). BUT...since I'm running out of places to put more books, the Kindle has been awesome for storing even more that I don't have room for and they're cheaper to buy (other than what I get at thrift stores or yard sales or library sales).
I have to say that my brother gave me a ton of ebooks on a disk to load onto my kindle, and I didn't ask where he got them 'cause I doan even caaaaare!
We are all witness to the moral breakdown of society... and some of you are perpetrators.
Shame.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Between Alecia and me alone are about 1,300 books. I'd wager quite a bit that number would rocket quickly up to 10,000 or 20,000 if everyone else here named how many they have lying around.
I call that good moral company.
I've never counted. But I have a lot. A whole lot.

This is movie talk go pirate talk somewhere else ARGHH!
I'm just kidding. I just felt like saying ARGHH!!
I should watch a movie tonight but I'm not sure which. I've been on the hunt for my Sword in the Stone since I just finished reading TV Snorted My Brain.
We have six large bookcases filled with books here at home. Some of them are even double rows. But there are very few of them that I'd like to read or haven't read already.
I finally watched The Skin I Live In. Daaaaamn. And I missed hearing Spanish so much.
Hola!!
Did you hear stores are banning Django toys because they're "slave toys" and now they've stopped production on them? It's so stupid.
I saw Room in Rome last night. Pretty interesting, but meh, a lot of sex.
I just watched a documentary that hit me on an emotional level. Indie Game the Movie follows different indie game developers and the things they go through to make something, not by a huge company to appeal to a mass audience, but a part of themselves. These guys had so much on the line just asking a game. No success? No future. In the meantime, no social life, money, etc...
Wow.
I watched Take Shelter with Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain. I really liked it and would give it 8/10.
I saw Lincoln last night and I loved it. Can't believe how good Tommy Lee Jones and Daniel Day Lewis were.
Watched Django. I really don't understand why people are getting all huffy over it (in regards to taking those Django toys of the shelves). I loved the movie. I love that German dude and SLJ's appearance was awesome. This is the first Tarantino movie in a while that I didn't hear Tarantino's voice in my head while the characters were speaking.
Samuel L. Jackson was awesome! I also really liked Leonardo Dicaprio, he did a great job.
The German dude is Christoph Waltz.
Austrian.
But Jaz said German and the guy he played was German. Twice. So there.
I watched The Shawshank Redemption today. My seeing older movies means I'm finally on to the must-watch list that my classmate drafted for me.

I just looked him up the other day too but I still can't get his name to stick in my head. I recently saw him in a foreign film but I can't remember which.
And I was referring to the character he played because I couldn't remember the characters name other than DR. King I know his last name started with an S but yeah I didn't want to butcher it. Anyway, Leo did amazing too. I even enjoyed Don Johnson's character. Overall, very good movie.
I want to see Side Effects really badly and also the new Coen Brothers movie and there was one more but i can't remember it. It looked really good though.
Man, I know exactly what you mean. I mean, I haven't seen Django yet, but about Tarantino in general.

Finally watched Shame. The performances were good but overall I wasn't particularly impressed. Could have been a much better film if they'd tightened up a few things. Also, what was with the music choices? Terrible.
Man, I know exactly what you mean. I mean, I haven't seen Django yet, but about Tarantino in general.
I love his movies but for a while, after having watched a few interviews of his, I couldn't get his voice out of my head while watching one of his movies and it drove me up the wall. I think I really enjoyed Django because each character was his own and not a Tarantino puppet. I still can't decide who my favorite is. I loved Jamie, Leo, Christoph, & SLJ and for a long ass movie it didn't drag one bit for me. I felt like a little kid at the edge of my seat the whole time.
I'm watching Anna Karenina and what is this crap? I thought Jude Law was going to be Vronsky, but nooo he's Anna's husband. What the eff?
Did you avoid the trailer? He didn't look like a Vronsky in it.

Went and saw The Silver Linings Playbook this morning. It was pretty great.

I don't watch trailers.
Watching To Kill A Mockingbird tonight.
Watched Sleepers, with Robert DeNiro, Brad Pitt, Billy Crudup, Dustin Hoffman, and so on. Decent melodrama.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
Yeah, I enjoyed that. Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper were great in it.
I liked Sleepers. Don't think I'd go out of my way to see it again though.
What was great about it? I don't get it.
I thought it was quirky. I mostly just liked the characters.

I liked the characters and it made me laugh in a lot of places. The ending was less than great, it felt sort of rushed, but other than that I really liked it. It was different.

I found the first movie I'm not going to see until the end. Monty Python's Life of Brian. I know I'm going to get shit for it, but is this supposed to be funny? I found it incredibly stupid and boring and I gave up 40 minutes into it.

I briefly worked at a movie theatre too. We used to make a ridiculous amount of money from Popcorn and candy... which we used to eat all day long for free. It was an old East End family-run business and no doubt a front for dodgy dealings. Lock and fockin stock!
I only really download (well, stream) TV series which I can't get a hold of, i.e. stuff not on UK release, like the latest Dexter or Girls series or stuff that's hard to find in the shops. I still buy movies and music if they're reasonably priced. Otherwise, I borrow cds from the library or burn discs off friends.
