Movie talk
I'm not even going to watch Zero Dark Thirty and Silver Linings. Don't care much for the stories. I'll see Life of Pi one of these days, though.
We keep seeing trailers for Mama, and now Giancarlo keeps following me around whispering MAMA at me.
You're kid is a hoot!
Get it together, Chris.
But Imke... I don't even know where it is!
Your not sure?
Nooooooooooooooo
Please fuck off Eddie Redmayne.
I know you're probably quite a nice guy but your acting is really, really annoying, as is the duck face.
Oh my god, totally agree! He was on Jonathan Ross the other day (and I don't even like Jonathan Ross in the first place) and I just couldn't even look at him. He really grates on me! He doesn't even have to do anything he just irritates me. Lots of women I know are always posting pics and gifs of him in Les Miserables and it's driving me nuts.
Oh god, I loved 'Moon'.
Yes, Duncan Jones also did 'Source Code' with Jake Gyllenhall. I think Jake was a bit humbled by the complexity of the character, but he pulled the performance off.
It was really another sweet sci-fi production. Very well edited and directed.
I can't believe they cast him as Marius! He's such a weed!
I will be avoiding the film.

Oh, and in that genre, you might also like 'Sunshine' by Danny Boyle, a space odyssey where they crew realize they are running out of oxygen as they travel to a near impossible mission towards the sun, and the paranoia and such ensues (there's more to the plot). I like that it's more about the human condition, than space. I think that's true about most good space movies.
Boyle also directed '28 Days' zombie flick. And I actually went out and bought 'Sunshine'.

The Cult and Moon are the reasons why I will soon be a groomsman. I became friends with an old coworker of mine when I heard he was going to go see Moon in theaters. It was hyped here so much on the Cult that I just had to see it. The rest is history.
I liked him a lot in Powder Blue.
Watched Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me again today.
It would be so much better if the shit about Teresa Banks wasn't included. Everything with Laura in it is absolutely fantastic though.
All I can do with these big eyes is watch a movie so I picked Life of Pi. It was a great idea not to see it in 3D, I would've got a heart attack when the tiger jumped out from underneath that cover.
You sure pirate a lot of movies.

Some of us love movies but don't have the money to spend on overpriced theater tickets.
Some of us love movies and don't believe in pirating. To each his own.
But I just wait until things come out on DVD.

Pirating hurts the economy. But who am I to talk? Music is an occasional vice of mine.
Well, I don't pirate music, but the film industry and actors, etc. get by just fine. I'm pretty sure I'm not hurting their economy. Sure, I'm not buying the dvd's, so I'm not paying the stores, etc, but still.
Times have changed. People still go to the movies and box office numbers are breaking records left and right. Pirating isn't making that big of a dent.
I'm sure all of you, especially Irina, would still feel fine about pirating if it were books we were talking about.

Pirating doesn't bother me, i don't really do it. I did download tons of music before but now i just use cloud services. I've never downloaded movies, it's too risky. I can understand someone like Irina downloading movies though because that's Romania and i'm sure their film industry isn't exactly thriving anyway. It's probably impossible to see decent movies there otherwise. Like i said, i don't download anything anymore but it didn't bother me when i did. I've never heard of a band breaking up because they were broke. And do people pirate books? The only ones i've ever pirated were pickup artist books but that was only because they were a ripoff in the first place.
Yeah, people pirate books. LOTS of people pirate lots of books. I think the most prevalent ones I see online are those self-help books and life skills books, like stuff about making money and feeling good and whatever. And I think that's because those books almost never come out in paperback and are always fucking expensive.
Yeah they always have these ridiculous websites where it's just one long page of sales pitches and testimonials and videos and when you finally get to the bottom, it's like $100 for a book. I don't know, i just have trouble feeling remorse for celebrities. I guess i'm too cynical. People still buy their shit, who cares if some people don't.
What Fano said.

I listen to music on YouTube.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
I only pirate Academic Journals.
...
R.I.P Aaron Swartz.
So I watched Fitzwilly which is a Dick Van Dyke film. I really enjoyed it. I probably would have had a total crush on Dick Van Dyke back in the day.
I download my ass off; movies, tv series, and music. Even if I didn't, I wouldn't buy any of it. Also, I regularly go to the movies and concerts.
You guys, I was gonna go to bed but Aliens is on one of the Cinemax channels. I absolutely LOVE this movie. I literally watched it in segments every night for about six months when I was twelve (we had it on VHS). I pretty much know all the lines. My brothers and I used to play Aliens by improvising alien detecting equipment using their Ghostbusters toys and our walkie talkies. We used to put on Walkman headphones and tape the part that plugs into the cassette player to our cheeks so they could be like the radio/microphone things the marines wore in the movie. I got in trouble when I got carried away and told my mom GET AWAY FROM HER YOU B-WORD once when she walked through the room. She didn't get too mad, though.
Awww dang! I forgot that John Candy was in 'Cool Runnings'. It's on AMC. This movie is awesome!
So crazy, my brother just left for Cali 2 hours ago, and the last thing we said to each other, were quotes from this movie.
"Cool runnings means Peace be the journey."
Whoa.
How do you think I have a few thousand titles on my Kindle? I'm young, I have no job, it's not easy to find the books I want in libraries, English books are twice or thrice as expensive than books in Romanian here (House of Leaves is $35, for instance). As long as I'm not spreading them, I think pirating and live streaming are on the same page.

Weird. I was watching Cliffhanger at work today and the actor who plays the main guy in Cool Runnings is in it and I said I was going to watch that tonight when I got home.
Why didn't any of you tell me how good Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is??
Ha, I just watched that again last night. I'm pretty sure I said something about it years ago in this thread. Yes, it's hilarious.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
I've been wanting to rewatch that.
Well fuck 19 year old you. You could've dropped me a PM or something.
You'll have to pretend I quoted Lib here.
Big S, why did you say pirating movies is "too risky'"? Like as in getting caught?
I saw Wreck it Ralph last night and I loved it completely and totally. One of the best films I've seen in ages. Can't wait to buy it on blu-ray and watch it again and again.

You really are a bad guy.
I nearly cried! I was surprised how emotional the film was and for the first time in ages I genuinely laughed in the cinema.
Yeah one time our cable company sent us a letter because they thought we downloaded Thor or something. We hadn't downloaded it, we had just installed a new router and hadn't set up a password yet so someone used our wi-fi to download it. It was a cease and desist letter and it had a bunch of threats in it, which was stupid because we weren't the ones who downloaded it. Then i have this friend who said the same thing happened to his friend but his friend just ignored the letters and kept downloading and he got sued and hos cable company dropped him and he tried to get internet through another company but they said no. Allegedly.
Also, last night i watched Lonesome Jim, which was a great movie. I loved the whole thing. I've never seen a Steve Buscemi-directed movie before. It was really funny and really sad.

One time my Dad got one of those letters. It was because somebody downloaded some porn movie. This company was sending out mass amounts of letters for a ton of their movies that people were downloading. I'm guessing that they were somehow just putting the movies out there themselves and tracking them. I have no idea who downloaded the porn - my dad can't figure out the computer and I know I didn't (this was when I lived there). Anyway, he ignored it. Never heard about it again.
It did scare me enough that I stopped downloading movies.
Also, for the argument that the directors, studios, and actors make enough money - those aren't the only people getting paid for that movie. There are the people that work at the theaters, the people who make the actual film for the projector, the people who package the DVDs (when it's released), the people who cater the sets, and don't forget the secretaries and janitors - the regular people. So no, pirating doesn't hurt the actors or the directors, but it might have an effect somewhere.
I used to work in a movie theater around a decade ago. We were talking about pirated movies, because we always showed that anti-theft clip. The head manager was a really cool older lady. She said, that the theater made most of it's profit on the concession stand. And the theater only made a twenty-five cent profit off of each movie ticket, after all of Hollywood's high fees. And this was at a small town 5 screen theater.
I was like, "No shit?!"
She was like, "That's the truth, girl."
I used to get tons of secret shopper awards, for concessions. Oh, hated working the ticket booth. I called that "the fish bowl". It was a certain hell, when you are working through a hangover, enclosed in a small glass case deprivation-tank, the sun fixed square on like a ant under a magnifying glass, waiting for the teachers and kids to show up for the matinee. I actually prayed to God once, that I would stop party drinking, and I really did!
Oh guys, "Cool Runnings" is on AMC again!!
What the flip?

We decided to finish watching Silver Linings Playbook last night. It was okay, but nothing more. I still don't think it was much of anything, and the story wasn't extraordinary like people made it out to be. This better not win any Oscars.
