He should understand that a girl needs her romance. And I won't mention Barbara's soap opera, Verbotene Liebe !

Yes. Very depressing. Not my type of film. Good acting though.

I know, I know. He does let me watch soaps and trashy girly stuff. It's just that it's usually him that goes to the vidoe shop so he'll more than likely avoid getting it for me. He honestly does do nice stuff for me too.

The first Harry Potter movie was on telly last night. It's so funny to see them all little and way overacting. Good movie though.

I've heard mixed things about the new Tarantino movie.

I've been waiting for the crowds to go down before going to Django Unchained. Today sounds good.

I thought Django was pretty awesome. And bloody.

Confused about the random Australians though.

Since Quentin Tarantino played one of the Australians, I'm guessing he just couldn't do a southern accent, so he just changed they character to an accent he could do.

I liked Django Unchained a lot. Not really sure what to say about it though. Violent, as usual, but surprisingly funny at points. The story and action was great, but I think the dialogue few short following Inglourious Basterds.

Yeah at first I was thinking 'wow this is the worst southern accent I've ever heard', but my husband found a copy of the screenplay online and the characters are written as Australian, so I'm not so sure. Tarantino is a big fan of Australian cinema of the 70s and 80s, so I think it may have been a nod to that. The guy with the beard actually is Australian, he played the killer in Wolf Creek, which is another Australian film I'm sure I've seen/read Tarantino praising.

Why do you say 'surprisingly' funny?

I can't remember actually laughing out loud to any of his previous movies, more likely just finding something humorous.

We saw The Hobbit last night in 3D.

It was good.

I really think they did an excellent job on the Goblin King.

I was disappointed that they felt the need to add to the story stuff that wasn't originally a part of it, but they didn't overdue it with that... yet. And I suppose it is to be expected that it would be added to, that always seems to be done no matter the merit of the original book.

Now I have all these people who have never read the book asking me about it and sheepishly admitting to never reading the book as though maybe they will.

I ended up watching Flight after getting home from my flight and it made me soo fucking anxious. I was kind of pissed that my parents chose to take me to a movie where a guy is an alcoholic flying a plane 2 years after my DUI and hours after getting off a plane ride that I was so relieved to get off of. This should have went in the buzzkill thread.

I wanted to watch Django and Les Mis but we were too busy living up the island life.

I got 30 bucks of free gift card money for Christmas so I went to Walmart (I know, I didn't have a choice!) to reclaim some of the movies that my brother took back when he came back from the Peace Corps years ago, when I saw it. A collection of eight Tarantino films on Bluray for 79 dollars.
Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill 1, Kill Bill 2, Death Proof, and Inglorious Basterds.

Three of the movies he wanted back were Pulp Fiction and the Kill Bills.

In the end, I decided not to get it. I have been spending too much money on myself lately (not to mention....Christmas)

Worth it for the first three alone.

Watched Looper the other night. It was a good movie but the ending was way too predictable.

I know man, ahhhh! I just bought a 40 dollar case. Bluray Back to the Futures for 30 bucks. Paid my my and my brother's dinner (50 bucks). My dad's new iPad (125 bucks) 100 dollar IKEA gift card for my brother.

I just can't buy it. I REALLY want to. 8 movies for what would become 50 bucks..

Glad to know Tarantino was being Australian because I remember whispering to my friend that he sounded "fucking Australian" and that he sucked at a southern accent. Not sure why there were Australians in Mississippi but I'll take it.

If you guys haven't seen yet, apparently Leo's blood was real.

I'm so jealous you all get to see Django Unchained right now! Just got back from seeing Jack Reacher - abysmal. Probably one of the most mental films I've ever seen, insanely bad dialogue, wildly sexist. Bizarre.

Going to see The Impossible tomorrow and TEXAS CHAINSAW on Friday! Very excited!

oh woah, I didn't know that. Poor Kerry Washington!

I'm not sure why there would be Australians in Mississippi at that time in history, and even if they were there they wouldn't have had the Australian accent as portrayed in the film. They probably would have just sounded English. So it's probably just a Tarantino thing.

Kit, you're Australian right? It's funny that you didn't realize he was doing an Australian accent. I immediately accepted it. I've also never talked to an Australian in person though. It must've been a really bad accent.

roseate wrote:

I did read something about that before seeing it. Kinda wish I hadn't though because I was just staring at it the whole time and gauging all the other actors' reactions to it.

Yeah, I am.. I dunno, it was just so incongruous I figured it couldn't have been intentional, until it kept happening throughout the scene. Perhaps it was his tribute to Robert Downey Jr in Natural Born Killers.

Sad

I've only asked someone to babysit so I could see a movie, twice this year.

Edward Furlong was a very sexy kid who did not grow into a sexy adult.

Same with Brad Renfro.

I had little girl crushes on both of them when they were little boys.

Same with Devon Sawa, but he turned out better than they did.

Oh man I have a huge crush on young Edward Furlong. Kind of have a crush on old Edward Furlong too. He does look like shit though. Something about the drunken antics in grocery stores (freeing lobsters from the tank and spinning around in circles when the cops were trying to arrest him) make him more appealing.

I really like Edith Wharton, but I found the House of Mirth pretty boring.

The Age of Innocence is a good film (Michelle Pfeiffer proves she's a good actress in it) but the ending in Paris was a bit spoiled because of a few obvious anachronisms in some street shots.

Jackie Brown rocked too but it's my least favorite Tarantino film. Maybe I need to watch it again.

Jackie's Tarantino's most character focused movie. Least amount of action of all of them, but it's not supposed to have a lot. Also the characters are a lot older so it is harder for younger people to identify with it. I've never read an Elmore Leonard novel. Between Jackie Brown and the tv show, Justified, I might have to.

I saw The Hobbit. I liked it heaps. I thought the goblin king was awesome. Barry Humphries was great. I thought the backstories were a little overdone, but I could see why they felt they had to include them. I'm not 100% sold on Martin Freeman, but I liked him as Bilbo more and more through the movie. I'm looking forward to the next one.
