Movie talk
Also downloading Burn After Reading now. Haven't watched it yet and I'm curious about Brad Pitt's role.
Brad Pitt's character was the only thing I liked about the movie.

I liked John Malkovich alot in it but I'm also a big John Malkovich fan.
Yeah, I'm not expecting much of the movie itself anymore.
I'm downloading another Norwegian movie called DeUsynlige [English title is Troubled Water]. 7.7 on IMDB, supposedly not bad.
I watched Salo last night and it was pretty fucked up, and I'm going to finish eating and go watch Anatomy of Hell tonight.
How do you all download these movies without your computer getting really slow? When I download stuff, things move at a snails pace. Is it because I'm on a wireless connection?
I'm not downloading, I'm using the Watch It Now feature on Netflix. I'd always avoided it before this week, now I'm kind of hooked. What I'll do is open a browser, pick a movie, and let it load for a half hour or so before I sit down to watch, because the other day, when I didn't do that, it stopped about 40 minutes in because the internet connection was slower than the movie.
Just watched Oliver Stone's The Doors and it's seriously one of my favorite shitty movies of all time.

I've got a pretty new pc, with lots of space on it and fast internet. I download the movies via torrents. Downloading them usually doesn't take very long, especially with new movies, 'cause so many people download those.
You realize you're putting me out of work and making it impossible for me to save enough money to get hernia surgery, right?
Come to Europe and get surgery.
Since I don't have the money to pay for every movie I watch[ed], you wouldn't get any money from me either way. The difference is just, do I watch movies, or do I not.
I use torrents like Imke and I was having the same problems as you Fano. I just got a second hard drive for only movies. Not really a quick solution or anything but it helps alot.
The LDR movie is killing me so far (40 minutes in). The conversations and everything, jesus. The actors aren't convincing, I feel indifferent towards their situation, even though I'm going through the same thing. I expected to relate much more. My expectations tend to ruin movies, I guess. o__O
Have you seen many 'mumblecore' films?
!
I had to google that, 'cause I had no clue what the hell mumblecore is. No, I haven't seen many! Actually, this is probably my first.
It's pretty typical mumblecore, but I think you should check out Quiet City. It's more artful and quiet, less amateurish and talky.
Anyone seen a movie called Roadside Prophets before? Any good?
i watched like 10 minutes of that on accident, nate. it was embarrassing. it was some wannabe surreal movie and the acting was laughable.
I've got a date set with my family to see a movie on thanksgiving, but nothing im particularly interested in is out. Any suggestions?

we're going to see a movie too and i have to sit through 'a christmas carol' with my family. 'the fantastic mr. fox' and 'the road' are both open on thanksgiving though.
i think the road looks great, but i doubt that my cousins who im seeing it with will tolerate the pace, looks a bit slow but still awesome. It'll probably be Fox

Burn After Reading was like expected. It was okay to watch and I wish there had been more of Brad Pitt's role, 'cause he was awesome. Hm, not sure what movie will be next.
I quite liked Burn After Reading once I realised it was a piss-take of the Grisham-style thrillers of the nineties.
You ever watch Reprise or Insomnia?
At the moment I'm watching a lot of French films, because I'm trying to learn French and it helps me remember things and pick up new words. What are everyone's favourite French films?
I've been having trouble finding good torrents for those movies. Either I don't find a torrent at all, or they're torrents that nobody else is downloading, meaning it wouldn't download for me either.
You just reminded me that I have a French movie though. Downloaded it weeks [months?] ago and still haven't watched it. Il y a longtemps que je t'aime.

Delicatessen, Amelie, Un Chien Andalou, La Belle et la Bête, La Haine, The City of Lost Children, Nikita, Haute Tension.
I'm sure there's more but these are the first ones that come to mind. Had to study foreign films for my A2 Film Studies exam, and French cinema took up a big part of it.
What I have shown you is reality. What you remember... that is the illusion.
I've been watching a slew of movies lately, and I'm really happy I'm doing it. In the past week I've seen 500 Days of Summer, Valkyrie, The Proposal, My Sister's Keeper, Gamer, there must have been one or two others that are slipping my mind, and I've got movies lined up that are pretty much all from the 2000-2009 movie thread.

If you haven't seen it yet, get that Brotherhood of the Wolf. That's a frenchy film and it's pretty bad-ass too. A rare combo!
Before Sunset/Sunrise are my favorite French movies...
The Day of the Jackal... but that's only half-French.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
Seul Contre Tous - Gaspar Noe
Le Pacte Des Loups - Christophe Gans
Un Long Dimanche De Fiançailles - Jean-Pierre Jeunet
À l'intérieur - Alexandre Bustillo
There's a few fun ones I can think of.
"...you want to be truly unselfish? Love someone or die for someone. Those are the only good deeds you can perform without any hope of personal gain."
why wasn't i told how awesome this new 3D is? i was flinching and everything. movies have totally changed and avatar looks seriously amazing.
I saw The White Ribbon today, I wasn't particularly impressed by it. It certainly wasn't bad by any means, I just don't rank it amongst Haneke's best. Maybe I it'll grow on me over time.
The Road will make you cry
Burn After Reading was meh. I liked some of the plot twists, and the fact that nobody knew what the hell was going on, but the Coen Brothers casting choices here bug me. It's like they didn't even try to cast the movie, they just called up their friends to see who wanted to come over and be in a movie. I didn't like George Clooney, Francis McDormant and Brad Pitt (for the most part, although he had some funny scenes). John Malkovich was great, though, and J.K. Simmons was good, even though he's playing the same character he always plays. The soundtrack was meh, and the whole overthetop zaniness of it took away from what could've been a really funny movie if played more straight.
I think Brad Pitt did a great job.
Also, I'm almost done watching Il y a longtemps que je t'aime and it's an interesting movie.
Does anyone else think this sherlock holmes movie is going to be awful? It looks like they're trying desperately to jazz it up into like a james bond movie. Like they wanted to Steampunk'd the shiz out of it! Maybe it's just horrible trailers and the movie itself will actually be good, I won't know because I'll never bother seeing it.
well am a guy ritchie fan so am going to see it and i think the cast is pretty amazing on its own. in fact, word is that the sequel is already in the works. but like i said i love guy ritchie, i just think madonna got him off his A game when they got married...i still cant believe he directed 'swept away' after 'snatch'...still breaks ma heart. any way since there divorce he seems to be back on track so i cant wait to watch sherlock Holmes...
I just saw the Wrestler for the first time. I had heard it was such a great movie with Mickey Rourke making a come back and all for so long. I had wanted to see it but hadn't gotten around to it until it just came on HBO. After all that it didn't seem that great to me. They did seem to really nail New Jersey though.

I just watched Sunshine.
If nothing else, this forum is an excellent place to find out which movies I should watch. That movie kicked ass.
The daughter thing seemed cliche I admit but I really liked the movie.
I dug out Eternal Sunshine yesterday and watched it. I choked up at the near end when Kate Winslett asks Jim Carey, "What do we do?" and Jim Carey looks at Kate Winslett and says, "Enjoy it."

Now go see Moon.
Already did. I prefer Sunshine. But Moon was still great.

You preferred Moon?
I watched Taken last night and thought it was really good. Liam Neeson was pretty badass in this. I actually kept thinking it was Ralph Fiennes. I confuse them from time to time.

My bad. I thought you were cupcake.

HAHAHA! You jerk!
You preferred Moon?
Yeah, I typically prefer great movies over decent ones.

Oh. That makes sense. I think personally, I found Sunrise more visually pleasing, and the number of characters allowed for more ways the conflicts could play out. However, it may be because Sunrise is still fresh, but for now, I'm saying I prefer that one. Personal preference.

The first vignette in Up is one of the most perfect short films I've ever seen.
