Movie talk
Sure, why not, even though I don't understand why they moved it from Boston to New Orleans.

Then I don't understand what's fun about it.
have you been to New York? It's infinitely more fun if you have.
Yeah, but just touristy New York.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
I've only been to the airport New York immediately followed by the other airport New York. All while either running or in tears or more often, both at the same time.
I do not like New York.
EmotionExplosion?

I'm watching Gigi. I was in the mood for a classic musical.
Now you have to pay her, Lib!
I saw Skyfall last night.
SPOILERS
The end was like a less good Home Alone. Over hyped, it was okay though, I mostly enjoyed it.
i want to die.
I think it's the product that's trademarked, not its name.

Nah, it was just StandbyStress. It was the thought that I might miss my flight and have to spend ANOTHER night sleeping on an airport chair. I didn't know my layover involved driving from JFK to LaGuardia until I got there. Luckily there was no traffic that day. My cab driver was amazed and told me I was one lucky bitch.
He didn't really call me a bitch. He called me a girl. But it's what he meant.
Saw Skyfall last night. I felt like it was trying to be a bridge. Like its purpose was to lead into a better Bond movie. The last scene was awesome. Also the Adele song at the beginning was awesome! She has a great Bond song voice.
The song sucked on YouTube. I admit the IMAX made it pretty damn good.

I liked the animations during the title sequence.
****** SKYFALL SPOILERS ***********
Good point. They got themselves another M, another Q and went as far back as possible in the origin story. On the other hand, I regret they did not conclude the whole story with Quantum, Mr White's outfit, because despite its flaws Quantum of Solace showed some promise by following Casino Royale's stating point with this global menace, both anonymous and multifaceted.

I was going to go see Skyfall tonight, but when looking up times I saw that Lincoln was already playing, so now I don't know. I will not be reading spoilers for either movie, as I assume Lincoln dies from dysentery.

If they decided that he should suicide in the movie while Confederates were raiding the White House, that'd be, like, the exact opposite of what Inglourious Basterds did with Hitler. That'd be awesome.

Because it's a lot cheaper to film here.
Also because Boston sucks.

Watching Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for the second time, instead of one of the other 8 movies I have on my computer that I haven't seen yet.
I finally understood the meaning behind the title. I guess I never really thought about it before.
It's the name of the poem she reads.
I love this film. It's one that Barbara and I saw the weekend we first met for real.

It's not just that. It's a metaphor for the entire theme of the movie.

Thank you Chris, now I don't really have to respond to Mike because that's exactly what I was going to tell him.
So yeah it sunk in the other day in my head what it meant. Randomly too.

That's happened so many times to me with various things. Like, you just don't think about it, and then one day you do, and you're like, "OOOOHHHH!!!!!"
This kind of reminds me of the time I was having after work drinks with my mentor-boss and some other folks. We were talking about Oprah Winfrey and her giant media empire and the name of it, which is Harpo something....I was like, "Yeah, Harpo was the name of her character's husband in The Color Purple", and they were like..."It's Oprah spelled backwards" and I was like..oh yeah, it's that, too, of course.

The poem is about a woman better off because she forgot about her relationship. Am I missing anything?
You'll just have to have a revelation of what it means one day I guess.
A spotless mind - a mind where the person you love is no longer present
Eternal sunshine - he still can't forget her, you see how even in the process of erasing his memories they still cling to each other, and after the erasing they still find a way to be together even if they don't remember their life before
And it's not the title, it's just a line in Eloisa to Abelard.

Hemingway was freakin' awesome in Midnight in Paris. Hilarious and a little inspiring.

I'm unsure what to say about Killing Them Softly. It was a cool movie, but... I don't know, something seemed off.
So, I'm guessing from the ensuing discussion, this movie is worth watching. I've almost watched it at least a dozen times but always opted for something else.
And I definitely want to see Abraham Lincoln.
Both times I have watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind I have fallen asleep about an hour and a half in. It's a shame because I love Charlie Kaufman usually.
This weekend we saw :
Cowboys & Aliens : very disappointing
Black Swan : good
V for Vendetta : better than expected.

V for Vendetta is awesome. I love that movie.
The comic is awesome too in other ways.
True
Saw Lincoln over the weekend. Good movie. Daniel Day Lewis definitely going to win best actor. Sometimes, (this may be just me) it felt too much like a movie. The musical score took me out of certain scenes but otherwise, good movie.
They got the chronology of his life all wrong but otherwise yeah. He was a terrific character.
Not a fan. And I didn't read the comic book. I wonder if that would've helped.

Probably not. The book and movie are still pretty similar as far as storyline goes. I watched the movie before reading the comic. Loved the movie, Enjoyed the comic book even more, still love the movie.
Just watched Seven Psychopaths. Enjoyed it, but not sure if I... liked it, if that makes sense. The analysis isn't clear. There's clearly a greater message/theme, but I can't seem to mine it out of all the chaos.
***SPOILERS***
I feel that it has something to do with the dichotomy of murder and suicide, where letting go can accomplish more than attempting to control. Murder is the "psychotic" practice of those that attempt to control a world that is beyond their reasoning, and inhabited by those trying to do the same. Bickle (same as Travis Bickle) thinks murder brings a sort of answer to his life of twisted morality. Walken's character was the opposite. He was a man that had realized that if one must take a life, the only way it would accomplish anything is if it was his own. Colin Farrell's character was the center balance of pacifism that was able to make it out of the situation by not participating in attempting to attain control when there was none to be had.

I was watching October Sky again for the countless time, but then my aunt showed up and I missed the ending. So mad.

My expectations for Cloud Atlas were sky-high, it was one of the few books I've ever bought after reading (and I'm a total scrooge) just to be able to read it once again this lifetime. Well, the movie exceeded all expectation, I was curious about the ages, I'd heard they didn't keep the book separation (with just two "chapters" for each age), but this works much better on screen - the going from one age to another and back again, it was done so beautifully that the art almost made me cry a few times. Seriously, it hurt to see so much grace. For instance, there were scenes when a door opened in one age, then cut!, next age starting with an opening door and so on. Just beautiful, the most wonderfully crafted (does it work?) film I've seen this year.
And I thought Moonrise Kingdom was marvellous.
I'm going to see Wreck It Ralph with friends tonight.
Whelp... Auntie Mame has been watched. It is now Officially Christmas.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I thought this was great, even if nobody else noticed.
I saw Lincoln last night and liked it a lot. I'll see anything with Daniel Day Lewis, but this was a really great film. I had some problems with the ending, but whatever.
Edit: I just remembered I also watched W. last night, so I guess I saw two presidential movies in one night. Elizabeth Banks as Laura Bush was hot.

W was actually pretty good. Oliver Stone is generally underrated because his style is riskier than most moviemakers' and misunderstood because of his politics, but there is always something interesting about his films.
I actually rate him higher than Christopher Nolan.

I thought this was great, even if nobody else noticed.
I noticed. It was, indeed, a quietly brilliant post.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I caughtTime Cop on a movie channel tonight. Even though I've watched it many times before, I still enjoy it.

Ah, I didn't know it was based on a book! Do you want to see the movie?
