Movie talk
Maid Marion was a fox.
Literally.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I wanted to be like her.
Wow, I loved Robin Hood. When we were young, there was a publishing house for children that mostly published Disney books and fairy tales, with the Disney cartoons for illustrations. That's how I know the story of Lion King and The Little Mermaid and Alladdin and many others without ever watching the movies.
Oh my god...
I wasn't in love with that movie like the rest of yous but oh my god...
I'm watching The Girl it's a great disturbing film about Hitchcock's obsession with Tippi Hedren.
Oh, I need to check that out. He was a dick to her mostly.
Actually, when I search The Girl on netflix, I get shitload of results. Can you tell me who's in it?
Yeah, Sienna Miller and...Toby Jones.
You're all so lucky for getting Cloud Atlas today. We have to wait 4 more weeks
We're going to go see Paranormal Activity 4 tonight because it's a tradition, even if we know this one will probably be pretty dumb. We saw the first one soon after we started dating, and we've gone each October ever since as each new film has been released. We also have a buy one/get one movie ticket coupon, so yeah!
That's sweet. My gf hates horror, but our tradition was the SAW movies.
Those movies were so much more than torture porn. The character relations and mythos are surprisingly interesting and deep.
The first one was just okay. But then how they started tying them all together, the writing got much better.
I'm in complete disagreement. The first one was gold (even though the acting was horrendous). Saw II was eh. Saw V was the only decent one after that. I didn't think the interweaving of the storylines was very impressive.
But yeah, the Saw and Paranormal Activity movies are our traditions, between me and friends. But... after this last PA, I think that series has run its course. The story was developing with some potential, but...
**SPOILERS**
PA4 had absolutely nothing to add to the story. It gave no answers. It was anticlimactic, and it used the same killing scenes as the last movies. Seriously, I couldn't believe it had ended when it did. I was like 'Okay, everyone's dead (as always), but this CAN'T POSSIBLY be all this movie has to offer.'
It had way more intentionally funny scenes than scary scenes, if you can call those scenes scary. It was just awful.

Okay, maybe I agree with Saw 1. It was good. I just couldn't get past the terrible acting.
I forget how long it was they had to shoot, but the reason the acting sucks in the first is because they only had time enough for two takes at the most to shoot each shot. They had like no time.
Also, the guy who wasn't the Dr (Robin Hood Men in Tights) was actually the co writer. The other co writer directed it.
Watched Inception again for the first time after having seen it at the movies 2 years ago. Loved it still.
I loved Paranormal Activity 3 though! It was my favourite of all of them. 4 doesn't look very good.
I thought the first Paranormal activity had decent acting. Or maybe a correction, I didn't actually think that, but I didn't think 'damn, these actors suck' either
I mean, the movie was realistic. If you consider the way people would actually behave under those circumstances. Even the fact that they didn't try to run away from the place... What would a personal haunting by a demon look like? Likely it would look like a mental illness, a break down of rational thought and decision making and a relying on paranoid and illogical survival mechanisms.
We're watching Rock of Ages and it is sooooooooo shit.
Tom Cruise is the creepiest.

We had fun just being together, but the movie sucked so bad.

So much of didn't make any sense, and it wasn't even scary!
If Katie stole Hunter after killing her sister, how did he end up adopted by that family?
Who the heck was the other little boy, then? And where did he go?
Why did Katie leave in an ambulance? Just a ploy to get the kid into the house?
They're witches....they really need a complicated plot to infiltrate their neighbor's lives and steal back the boy? Those people never kept the damn door locked, so....I mean shit, the boyfriend/buddy of the daughter could just come and go as he pleased.
Is it really plausible that a big ass knife would fall from the ceiling and that bitcy wife would just be like, "SHUT UP AND COME TO BED YOU ASSHOLE"? If Drew told me a knife fell from the ceiling we'd sell our house.
We did see the trailer for the new Red Dawn and we were like WOLVERIIIIIINES, UUUUHHHHNFFF! It's gonna be rad, in a cheesy way (although I think it will be lost on kids today. The original movie came out when we were pretty young and Russians were scary and a war with them seemed like a real threat. Now it's...the Chinese? Mmmkay.)
As far as Red Dawn, I really liked the original. It's a great movie idea in general. The new one looks cool, but I think the performances are gonna be pretty subpar. I mean, c'mon. Patrick Swayze to Chris Hemsworth? Quite a step down, if you ask me.

Oh, and Charlie Sheen to Josh Peck? Whaaa? I don't think they're gonna be able to get away with some of the subject matter of the original, either.
As far the enemy, yeah, it has to be China or North Korea (and I think they're gonna remain ambiguous about it). Any middle eastern country would've seemed like we're just pushing the racism past The Last Airbender levels. Russia doesn't seem plausible at the moment, and I don't think they'd appreciate us making a movie like that. South American countries are our allies, for the most part, I think. Canada? Pfffft. Any European country? No waaayyy. Their markets wouldn't let that happen, and I don't think Hollywood would risk the international gross. Africa? That would've seemed way more racist; a movie that visually put blacks against whites.
So yeah, it's gotta be an Asian country.

I approve.
I think some mead would be more appropriate, however.
The new Red Dawn was suppose to feature Chinese but it's been changed to Koreans in post otherwise it probably would have done poorly or just been outright banned in China because they're sensitive like that.

I watched Happy Go-Lucky today. I had been wanting to watch it since it came out a few years back but I finally got to watch it. I really loved it. I don't think it's for everyone but personally it's probably my new favorite movie. I almost posted it in the Perfect Movie thread.
We never, and I mean never go to the movies. That is about to change though, because now the kids are always gone on the weekends. So when Bob gets back in town this week, this weekend we are going on a proper date. Dinner and a movie. I have been wanting to see the new Oliver Stone movie Savages. Anyone seen it? I would also like to see Argo. I always have to wait for the movies to come out on On Demand, so I'm going to be so excited. I can't wait!! I'll let you guys know what we see.
Whatever Whore!
I saw this today. Soooooooo creepy.
Don't get Jaz started..
Don't get Jaz started..
hahaha it wasn't that awful but it was pretty cheesy.
I saw Savages on the plane. Not bad at all, but the three lead actors are rather bland.

what is Savages about? I feel like it got almost no press at all, considering there are some big names involved.
Why haven't I seen American Psycho yet? Be right back...

I haven't seen it, either.
Here ya go.

I have easy access to torrent sites, I just don't think I can see those things. They're better off in my imagination only.
What do you mean by "those things"? Creepy movies?
No. Every torture that's in the book. I don't know how much they show in the movie (I assume a lot), and I don't wanna see it. My imagination works very well on its own. I loved the book, in case you're under a different impression.
Most (if not all) of the violence in the movie is off screen (if I'm remembering right).
That's what I meant. If you want a condensed, bloodless although still probably NSFW version, just watch this.
I mean... there's blood... but it's cute blood.
They barely scrape the surface of the violence that's in the book. You have to remember this was made before the whole "torture porn" craze that's so prevalent in horror movies these days. And that it's not intended as a horror movie. It's a great adaptation.
So no hamsters eating their way through the girls' vaginas? Fine, then I may watch it.
You should watch it.
You should also stop ruining the book for me, as I have yet to get around to reading it.
Sowwy.
This is a three minute long action movie about pockets and it's the best movie I've seen all year.

I watched Robin Hood more times than any other Disney flick. Last Saturday I got really excited when at this party, this guy playing guitar had the rooster tattooed on his leg with a bandolin, and he played the freakin' song from the movie. I did the whistling part. It was magical.
