Movie talk
I LOVE HIM!!! It's so cool when he catches the pokémonz!!!
huh?
He means Ash Ketchum, the main character in Pokemon.
I watched it the other day. It was alright.
I'm watching Red right now. I read the book by Jack Ketchum but hadn't seen the movie.
I loved Red. I fell in love with Helen Mirren a lil bit.
I want to see The Tall Man.
Weirdly, Red just arrived off my rental list. The Jack Ketchum revenge film, not the CIA old people one.
Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted was pretty bad.
Uff.
Uff.
Shut up, Maurice !

Saw Sinister, it was properly good mostly! No Insidious though.
I watched The Dictator and Dark Shadows.
I liked Dark Shadows, and The Dictator was better than I thought it was going to be (and I thought it was going to be cringe-worthy shite).
Really? Ack, I disliked The Dictator so much.
Watched The Woman In Black last night, and did not enjoy it, because I was tense almost the entire time. It was uncomfortable, and I guess it's supposed to be, so good job, movie.
Spoiler below..?
I hate that they managed to retrieve the boy's body right away. "Nobody has been able to do it! Let's try! Okay, got him!"
Frankenweenie.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Saw The Master just now.
It was...ok. It really did drag in a lot of the movie. My mom thought it was disturbing.
FINALLY watched Looper. Such an amazing movie with such a HUGE problem when it comes to the logistics of time travel. It even breaks its own ridiculous rules at one point in the movie. Still gonna buy it and love it, albeit reluctantly.

Agreed totally with u.
Was it as good as the original? The first one was pretty funny.
Was it as good as the original? The first one was pretty funny.
Aside from the basic premise (Kid reanimates dead dog!), it is, from what I remember of the original, a fairly different story. I found it quite enjoyable and Isabel (9 1/2) loved it.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I really fucking liked it.
Chris, that movie took me by surprise how much I liked it.
I respectfully disagree. The motivations of JGL's character were just all over the place and made no sense. Not just in terms of how he feels about his employer but also the kid, the mom, the stripper. It also just had stuff in it that went nowhere. (The best friend and TK, anyone?)
It was entertaining. I will give it that, but there was logic missing in more than just the time travel.
*spoilers*
JGL's character's motivations were pretty clear. He's an anti-hero that was initially motivated by his own desires, showing signs of good, a side of him that eventually takes over when it really matters (pretty standard). He failed his employer, a man that (as he sees it) saved him from a shittier life, is trying to kill him, and he wants to square things with him to live his life like he wants. He grows to care about the mom and kid before finding out the kid is actually the kid that's gonna violently take over the world, but his good side still keeps him from killing him as he thinks there's a better way.
Paul Dano's showing off of his TK was to introduce the TK, as well as establish that his character's a bit of a skeez (saying he's gonna use it to pick up women and stuff, something that's looked at as pathetic).
Don't know what's not to understand.
EDIT - Oh, and the stripper? A romantic symbol of the life he currently lives. He realizes she's not what he wants when he realizes he's turned into a guy that'll sacrifice his best friend over his silver.

Also, yeah, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was pretty underrated.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes gave me fits of joy.
Of course, the original Planet of the Apes is my most favorite movie ever, so I was all prepared to be annoyed by them hacking anything that might make sense or make it enjoyable to watch, especially considering how disappointed I was with the Planet of the Apes remake.
I watched Frankenweenie. I really liked it.

And we find a something that we disagree on!
First Apes remake was so godawful that I skipped the Rise one.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I skipped it too, but it's been playing on HBO, like, twice a day. Watched it all the way through. It's not bad. Yeah, it has all the shit you'd expect from a mainstream movie, but I was pretty entertained.

I liked Rise but James Franco is a terrible actor (and I don't feel bad saying this after hearing about his NYU experience).
He was hot in Spiderman, but I agree, he seems like a dick.
I watched Moneyball last night. Really enjoyed it.

***************Moar spolez****************
His whole purpose of killing his future self was to get good with the mob. Then when he finds out they are going to kill him no matter what he does, he STILL decides that killing his future self is the way to go.
As for protecting the kid, what does the timeline predict? That JGL doesn't get involved and the kid grows up to be a monster. So what does he do? He saves his life from his future self and leaves him alone.
Two problems with this, 1. This might not even be the right kid. 2. If it is and he knows what he will definitely become, he just thinks "I like his mom. I'll save the little Hitler."
The bit with the friend was kind of long.
*****so many spoilers, right?*****
He keeps on trying to kill the old him, because he plans on killing the kid. And it's never truly established that he'd be killed regardless, considering that was told to him through a lower agent that just takes orders.
JGL already got involved. Chaos theory (which I know is largely ignored in this movie, but that was the logic I had a problem with in the beginning). The kid shows an ability to control himself and listen to his mommy. JGL sees that the kid would only be corrupted again if he saw his mom get killed, which is what was going to happen which is why Bruce Willis hadn't disappeared. That was the point of the ending. And c'mon, they know it's the right kid. A single person that takes over the future? One of the 3 possibles has superpowers (I think the other possibles were dead, too)? C'mon. We know who it is.
What bit with the friend?

The whole intro could have been shorter I mean.
But despite my complaints, I don't regret seeing it.
I kinda liked the slower pace. Reminded me more of Blade Runner.

You won't be surprised but I fell asleep to Blade Runner.
They filmed that all around my neighborhood. My girlfriend knew those guys in high school and Jeremy Richardson was always trying to ask her out but she thought he was a big drughead weirdo. I don't like where i live.
The bigger fella seems like an evil bastard but the other one (the one who got the death penalty) just seemed like a ignorant redneck. What a shitty thing all around.
I know where you live (that sounds creepy but you know what I mean) and I've wondered as I've watched this if you're familiar with these places they keep showing.
Is that the one where the kids steal the corvette?

The only place i didn't recognize was the bar where they talked to that bartender. They drove up and down the street that turns off into my neighborhood and there's a Jack in the Box and a Shell that i go to all the time. I've even been past the prisons they showed many times, in Livingston and Huntsville. And the high school is right on the way to the lake so i see that all the time too. I wonder if Herzog was in line in front of me at the gas station or something and i didn't even know it.
Oh yeah, camaro I think.
That was one messed up documentary.
The book was sooo much better, really one of my favourite of the 2000s. I guess you'd enjoy it, since you know baseball.

I really liked The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I imagine the book was better.

I have HBO again which reminded me that I didn't like the end of The Adjustment Bureau at all but I really enjoyed the first half and the one thing I'm going to remember about this movie is that Damon and Blunt's characters make the best couple ever in the history of both fake and real couples.
I really like them.
I'll say it once and I'll say it again. Jim and Pam already have that title.

Funny, I just watched an episode of The Office after not watching it for years.
After all this time, they're still boring.
The movie dropped every subplot that didn't directly serve the main storyline.
I say it a lot. But I've been in that high school football stadium and my brother worked at that King's Family Restaurant when he was a kid.
After all this time, they're still boring.
Kinda like how the couple in The Adjustment Bureau would be after all those sci-fi/fantasy shenanigans... except with more less-ludicrous shenanigans.
I'm not sure about the wording there.

Every screenwriting book I've ever read (a total of two) has said that you have to edit out every scene that wasn't necessary to move the plot forward and send the same general message. Sucks, I know.
