Movie talk
Anyone watched Moonrise Kingdom yet?
I love all things New England (and most Wes Anderson flicks) so I'm excited to see it.
Over the weekend I saw a movie I recommend. It's called Bernie. It stars Jack Black. I know I turned a lot of people off with that last sentence, but he's really good in it.
It's a strange movie based on a strange true story.
The nicest guy in a Texas town forms a friendship with the meanest old lady in town. He ends up killing her in a brief moment of anger, and uses her money to give to the community, something she never did. It's about how he gets away with it for a while, all because no one cares that she's missing.
The highlight of the movie is the bunch of interviews from real citizens from the town. They weren't actors and they were funny.

I may watch that soon. I haven't seen any trailers for it but my friend mentioned that we should go see it and it's my top pick out of the movies he's suggested so far.

I want to see it because it's Richard Linklater. Also, my American Lit teacher is from that town and she was telling us about that old lady and how dreadful she was because my Lit teacher ran a garden supply store and the mean lady always came in there. She said Bernie was a creeper.
Please explain, sir. I haven't seen Shawshank Redemption from start to finish in a long time so i don't see it i guess? Anyway, i liked how realistic the shootouts were, like it was just bullets flying and nobody really aiming or hitting anything. The movie probably suffered from being too real though. Sometimes the slang was too much and i had to keep explaining what they were talking about to people.

I heard about that the other day on NPR...think I'll want to see it for sure.

My bf and I saw it on the weekend and we both loved it. It was actually the most delightful thing I've ever seen in my life. Rushmore is my favourite but Moonrise Kingdom might be my new favourite.
My boyfriend just told me about that movie yesterday as well. We'll definitely need to go see it!
I just thought of something. I think Bradley Cooper would make a damn good Sam Spade if another adaptation of The Maltese Falcon was ever made, mostly because he fits the original description pretty closely.

Great to hear you enjoyed it so much - we're going to go see it tonight. Hurrah for Orange Wednesdays... (the one benefit of having a phone contract with them).
I think my fave is The Royal Tenenbaums - I know that's boring as everyone loves that one, but whatever. I'll definitely have to watch Rushmore again. Haven't seen Fantastic Mr Fox and probably won't bother...
I put American Beauty on while I was doing some housework and writing but halfway through I just stopped everything and watched it. I thought I'd really got all I was ever going to get out of American Beauty but of all the times I've watched it this time it seemed the most special. Can't seem to get on with my day now, it peaked.

I didn't enjoy Fox much, it was really good looking but I got bored. It wasn't the way the story was in my head when I was little, so I don't think it worked for me.
That's the main reason why I won't see it. Also, this real bitch from my degree worked on the production and to see her name in the credits would anger me.
Yeah well i have a Rushmore poster.
We'll see Moonrise Kingdom on monday. I liked Mr Fox, but I didn't know the story before, so it didn't spoil anything.

I liked Mr Fox too. Which is strange because between Wonka and Giant Peaches, as a kid, Dahl might as well have been Stephen King for me.
American Beauty is AMAZING.
How are all you guys seeing Moonrise Kingsom? I don't think it's playing anywhere within two hours of me. I thought this was america.

Anybody remembers an old movie about a girl and a boy who flee their city because they fall in love? They go by train, the girl was rich and the boy was poor, and at some point an old man (or somebody's grandfather) helps them. I can't for the life of me remember the title and would like to see it again.
Me and my boyfriend are gonna go see Prometheus at the movies tomorrow. I heard the first hour of the movie is good, and the rest... ehrm, okay-ish. We'll see I guess!
This seems to be a common mistake. Apparently, it's Amercia.

I really enjoyed Moonrise Kingdom. The child actors were really good. As always with Wes Anderson films, the mis-en-scène was awesome. I admit I shed a few tears.
This makes me happy! Children can ruin otherwise good movies.
Ha, I know! It was their first film and their performances were really refreshing.
How old is it, do you think? Like from the last decade, or really, really old?
It sounds familiar, like a black and white film I saw years ago (and it was old then, too, I think). Was the girl pregnant?
No, no, they were younger. Like 12-13, I guess. I saw it in the 2000s, but it was black and white, if I remember correctly.
Don't Stop Believin'?
Homeward Bound?

Nick, this is serious.
Sorry, but I can't not post this now. Read the forum rules, it's in there.

The new Tarantino movie's FINALLY come out with a teaser. EXCITED.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
I'm not holding my breath.

Well you didn't like Inglourious Basterds, right? I'm not a Jamie Foxx fan at all, but I think this will be good.

Don't Stop Believin'?
Let the Right One In?
No, it's an old movie.
The man can act. Collateral. That dumb RDJ movie. etc
Si vis pacem, para bellum
Hmmmm, interesting! Made me happy to see Leo.
seems a bit to me like he's trying to make Jamie Foxx the next Samuel L. Jackson, but he doesn't have the charisma
still, it looks like it will be a fun movie.
To me it seems Tarantino just loves Blaxploitation cuz it's camp. He just needed a good, young, black actor for the part, and Samuel's not fitting into that second category too well.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
I don't have a problem with him liking blaxploitation, I just don't really know that Jamie Foxx is the right choice for the part, but I'm willing to be surprised.
also, Jamie Foxx really isn't that young either, though I'm guessing Sam Jackson probably has 20 years on him.
I'm no Jamie Foxx fan at all but i've loved all of Tarantino's movies. Even Death Proof. They have a charm.
I have a big sci-fi boner for Prometheus right now. I liked that so much.

I think I'm going to see it this week- did you go for the 3D, or just the 2D?
Just 2D. I don't mind 3D, but I'm not a big fan of paying extra for things I don't care about.

I finally watched We Need To Talk About Kevin today. Wow, Tilda was amazing! And all through the film, before she looks out the window, I thought her husband had left her and took the girl. Boy was I surprised.
I sure will, found an ebook after a looooooong wait. I'll just wait to finish what I'm reading these days.
Well, I saw Prometheus in 3D AND imax. it was the only session that was a good time for us to go .. a little overwhelming with both, but definitely a cool looking movie, the 3d was pretty awesome. Movie wasn't half bad either.
That's the way I saw it, 3D IMax on a large screen, I absolutely adored it, and despite it being pricey, plan on seeing it that way again, maybe next week.
127 Hours.
Pretty damn good. Almost had tears in my eyes at the end.

I saw Madagascar today. The first one, not the one in theaters. It was fun and I need to do anything to stay away from my books, or I'll be tempted to keep revising.

That movie is goooooood.
