What on god's green earth (actually it is mostly blue) does STFU mean. I am not very fluent in internet jargon.
Shut The Fuck Up is what it means
and hey, dont mess with texas
"woman of the house, where's me tea"- John Wayne, the quiet man
uh oh, a bushie. Texas is the gayest state on the planet.
actually technicall it's the LEAST gay state. they prosecuted two men for sodomy just recently. and it's illegal to sell dildos, vibrators and other pleasure aids in that state.

"woman of the house, where's me tea"- John Wayne, the quiet man
you guys ever read the short story, and if so, is it any different
"woman of the house, where's me tea"- John Wayne, the quiet man

theyjust had a court hearing in michgian to decide if soddomy was legal, i forget what they decided, i think it was legalized... weird shit.
no, id like to read the short story though. Of course i'd also like to see guy ritchie's "hard case" but that's not gonna happen either.
Memennto is brilliant. And yes, it is quite different from the short story. Very different. you can find Jonathan Nolan's Memento Mori in http://www.esquire.com/features/articles/2001/001323_mfr_memento_1.html
For all fans out there, i would recommend the official site www.otnemem.com (yes, they wrote it backwards) and 'Everything You Wanted to Know about Memento' in
http://dir.salon.com/ent/movies/feature/2001/06/28/memento_analysis/index.htm?pn=1

Also in some way it is so similar to Fight Club... All the issues of memory and identity: Shelby does not remember what he has done, therefore he has no idea who/what he really is; Jack's identity is so fucked up, so he doesn't remember what he has done as Tyler. And the doubles... Leonard//Sammy Jankis, Jack//Tyler... The sheer freakery of the protagonists... The confused sense of time... The deja-vus & jamais-vus... The use of the body as a text (Fight Club:bruises etc and kiss scar as uniform, Memento: the body as apermanent notepad)... So Gothic *sighs* Two of my favourite films ever.

would you say that the fact that jack ends up (in the book, anyway) in the loony bin, or at least much worse off than he was, but he doesn't know it, and that shelby ends up being fucked over and used to kill people due to his memory problem, but doesn't know it, is also a parallel?
also, one thing i never reconciled in my mind: did shelby kill his wife with the insulin like terry says, or was it really sammy jenkis?

Interesting parallel, Kitty, somehow it never occured to me.. Yep, I'd agree.
With memento one can never really know, though the official website suggests Teddy's story is true, and personally I go for that intrerpretation. Sammy is a double Lenny created and conditioned himself to believe in. He represents what he does NOT want to be (as opposed to Tyler who represents what the narrator wants to be). Being responsible for the death of his wife is too traumatic for him to bear, so he dismisses the memory to his unconscious and Sammy to an institute (the real SJ was an impostor and didn't have a wife). To escape everything that distresses him, Leonard projects them on to Sammy, blocking out hi real past. I think Lenny is too narcissistic to acknowlegde his part in his wife's death - we can also see that in the ease he condemns Terry to death just because he spoke an unpleasant truth (Lenny doesn't seem fazed by the murders Teddy made him commit).
Awww, fuck. Maybe I should stop plagiarising myself and post my essay (Memory and Identity Crises in Fight Club and Memento).
Anyway, do check out www.otnemem.com. They have some excellent material that gives you the background. It's worth it.

We should write SPOILERS on the title of the thread. Can someone do it?

every time i click on that site i get a 404. but anyway.
i dunno, i thought that teddy was totally lying to him the whole way through...i think sammy's real. maybe sammy's real and then teddy manages to convince him that it was him, so he imagines the scenario with himself in it, like an implanted memory, or a suggested memory, or something whatever they're called.

Sorry Kitty, that was my fault. I had misspelt the site. I have now corrected it.
As moderator, can you do something about the thread title?
I wouldn't like anyone hating me forever because of the spoilers...
I still think Teddy wasn't lying...
