Matrix Revolutions..SPOILERS
I came into this movie thinking it was going to be mega-mediocre, but in that respect it did exceed my expectations...the directors seemed to focus on less bullshit this time around, by that I mean no 20 minute segments in Zion with nothing happening or chats seeming to last forever concerning "what is reality." No, this movie has action and it does a damn good job at it.
I understand why some may not feel the same considering that I am a fan of this series solely due to its innovations in effects and high-budget action, so the abscence of deep philosophy/plot was welcome in my case.
The one thing that bothered me was the fiery cross that appeared on his chest at the end when all the Agents were destroyed. Are we really that stupid that we couldn't figure out the allusion from the crucifix pose alone, not to mention the jacks that were made to look like nails? I don't know, but it kind of bothers me to have everything spelled out for us.
Then again, I might be wrong.
someone right a full story spoiler for this moie now
yes going to go see it tomorrow cant wait. I really didnt understand the second one but im glad the third one seems good
I certainly appreciated Revolutions for the visual effects, but the story was disappointing. The first movie was nearly perfect in my mind, but in being so good, it set up the rest of the series to be a letdown. I was hoping they could pull it off and surprise me, but they didn't.
Some questions are best left unanswered. The end of the first movie did indeed leave things wide open, but to me, playing around with all of the possibilities in my head as to what it all meant, and trying to figure out how it would end - that was a lot more fun than sitting through the next two movies.
yea---well i sorta disagree with the whole "abscence of deep philosophy/plot was welcome in my case." thing, cuz that's what got me into the movie in the first place. ok so maybe i thought dodging bullets was SORT of cool... but in my opinion the movie came ALONG way from the first, and i think that they finished the trilogy of a great way: with an action packed *BANG*. i love the way the Wachoski bros gave the unexpected (who wouldve ever guessed they were gonna come to peace???)
in all seriousness, the uncertainty of Neo's death at the end didnt surprise me all that much, cuz the Wachoskis seem to like to do that (but if you're wondering, i think Neo is still alive [remember how he was glowing on the little transport machine at the end?] i dont think this was merely imagery, but i think it was a sign that neural/some-sort-of-mechanical activity was going on inside of him)
*gasp*... anyway... one of the things that confused me a lil was, why did all the Smith's die when the Smith-made-out-of-Neo died? i think it was becuz they were 'connected', 'opposites of the equation'... i think the spike-face-main-machine-thing 'destroyed' Neo, knowing that it would in turn destroy Agent Smith.... ????..... idk, i have a friend who is REALLY good with that kinda stuff, so me and him will talk about it for a couple of hours and i will feel fufilled
*whew*, ok i mark this as the end.... for now...

yeah i see that how some questions are best left unanswered like chuck says "nothing is ever as good as you can imagine it"
i liked this movie better than the second one, but not as much as the first.
i believe Neo is dead, but i'm not sure, he could be alive with only his good side left. What Oracle said was a little confusing, she first said, "He is you," but then said, "He is your opposite." Does this mean Neo and Smith are the same person, one evil side and one good side, or that Smith is merely the exact opposite and they are two different entities. Either way, Neo of course 'balanced' everything by sacrificing himself at the end, and the balance destroyed them both. If you die in the Matrix, you die in real life, hence "the body cannot exist without the mind," so that would mean that he is dead. Then again, creating that balance wouldn't necessarily mean death, it would mean Neo would be alive still, and just be a really well rounded guy. i don't know, at first i was confused by not knowing enough, not i'm still confused, but from realizing too much.
i know that they had to get a new Oracle cause the first lady (who i liked much better) died, but the way they wrote it in seemed pretty flimsy to me. I didn't notice any glaring weakness in the special effects like i did in the second one, though, which was good; i was looking for them.
That French dude and Monica Belucci barely got any screen time, which was weird, i'm sure they weren't happy with the script. Also, that little girl annoyed the hell out of me, there are a million child actors out there, they could've got another one. She didn't annoy me by being too cutesy or anything, just because she wasn't a good actress at all.
The rain battle scene at the end was very well done, but i miss the long kung fu scenes, there was barely any of that. Also, those big mechanical robots were stupid, they had absolutely no protection at all from bullets, something you'd think the designers would have thought of, seeing as how guns that big meant they were designed to participate in battles a little more life-threatening than water balloon fights; plus, they were stupid looking. i like the drill robots though.
There was too much mechwarrior crap in this one for my tastes...I too love the nice kung-fu scene, and, while there was one in here, I didnt really think it was as long as it should've been. I think the Smiths all blew up because if Neo died, they had to go too in order to "balance" the equation out. That's how I saw it. Christ sacrificing himself to save humanity, that sort of thing...

so ruin it for me, there was no matrix ws there? neo woke up as his friends form the first one banged on his door to go to a party
what a mess reloaded and revolutions were. if somehow they could have combined the philosophy of reloaded with the action of revolutions and just made one sequel, somehow i think it would of been a lot better...
....or...wait a second, what if they made no sequels at all??? and left a really good original to stand alone for people to ponder over without making a sorry attempt to answer all the questions brought up...
WACHOWSKI'S TO SMALL_FIRE: but...but...but...JOEL SILVER gave us all this MONEY! and look at all these cool computers!!! we can pay people to RAVE and then we will pay two girls to grab each others nipples...and...and...and...SLOW MOTION BULLETS AND FLIPS AND FIGHTS!!!!
SMALL_FIRE TO WACHOWSKI'S: shut the fuck up you fucking bastards.
i liked the action in the third movie. i personally found it gripping and highly enjoyable. what the third movie lacks is a story...but more importantly, a wrap up. they attempted to introduce a bunch of new ideas and characters in the second film, only to completely drop them from the third one. hey you so called philosophers, not a good move. there is no point in analyzing whether or not neo is still alive, why the smiths all died, ect. because GUESS WHAT...the wachowski's will make another matrix in about 20 years after they waste all their money on comics, booze, women, and computers (need proof of this: take a look at george lucas...i rest my case). not to say any of these things are necessarily BAD things to waste your money on...but still, they will need more...which is why the end really isn't an end at all...it is left open, no questions were answered, it is the ultimate cop-out.
with all that being said, did i hate the movie?...not really. the first one is still the best, and, like i said, i really enjoyed the action in the third one. what disappoints me the most is how much potential the first one had. with the first film, the wachowski bros. had proven that they could tell an interesting story with true depth, and combine it with great action. they seem to have completely lost that touch, and we are left with a jumble of what could have been (or what never should have been) in revolutions and reloaded.
(okay i didnt read the above posts because i dotn want to know anything before, and if, i do see it...i knew it will suck beacuse of the 2nd one, i wasnt a fan. just heard the bbc radio review..and it seems laughable and cheese and more cheese. bad dialogue bad plot and a chase scene that actually made the audience laughed...)

i'm not expecting anything big from revolutions, reloaded sucked, they should have just made the original and that be it

That's the way I'd like to think about it. The first movie posed so many questions, but still, it had a great ending that was the jumping off point for many philosophical discussions. Just leave it there. The way Revolutions ended was such a letdown.
I think they got too into their own philosophy in the second.
Everything was kinda left hanging in this one. Was this the end?
I doubt it.
Neos dead. Trininty's dead. Guess who had contracts for only 3 movies?
There will be more Matrix movies. Too much money has been made and the ending was open.
I think Neo should have continued his "kill the machines" and destoryed fucking everything in a Terminator like spree of destrcution. I like violence.
All in all though, I think the movie was REALLY about killing the "White Machine"... Zion is for the brothas. Morphus lived. Think about it. There were no black agents. White man got killed by da white man, and da brothas get the future.

hated it! *does circle snaps and shit*

The first two were great to me, but the third one was a big letdown.
ok am i the only one who owulda thought it was real cool if it was all a dream. like neo was asleep at work, or he was still in the interogation room with the agents or he was still asleep at the computer at the beginning of the first? sure it woulda sucked, but at the same itme it woulda been super fucking cool
nawww.. the dream thing would made the entire movie completely pointless... but i liked all the movies about equal i guess...

thats what owuld have been cool! all these die hard fans let down
It would have been entertaining, yes.
What I want to know was this one open ended? He died, fufilling the Christ symbolism bullshit and saved the world. Yeah, the machines making peace with the humans was sorta sketchy, and the Oracle's comment that "we may see Neo again someday" was sort of like the book of Revelations from the Bible indicating that there may come a time when a second coming is necessary. I'm not the Bible expert, nor do I buy into the book at all, but they threw it in my face so much it's hard to ignore. Anyways, I don't think the conclusion was meant to leave anyone to believe that there'd be another film. The ending was pretty absolute in my opinion. Like I said, the only real problem I had with the plot was that the machines weren't destroyed, and they just made peace instead of fighting to the death. Saying that makes me feel like an ignorant viewer but I did feel somewhat cheated by that whole thing.
On another note, I initially did like the philosophy with the first one, but the second one the Wachowski's tried to blow everyone's minds again...they failed. Remember all of that garbage with the Architect? It had confused the hell out of me and upon seeing Reloaded again I thought I had figured it out, only to have that contradicted by the Oracle's comment that essentially anything the Architect says is bullshit. Wow, way to make 15 minutes of Reloaded, not to mention the entire buildup to Revolutions a big waste of time.
Basically I think the problem with the last two was that the Wachowski's had dug too deep a hole with the first one that they couldn't get out of, despite the over-the-top efforts of the concluding films.
However, I still feel like I got my money's worth. The war scene was pretty amazing despite how you feel about the mechs, and that upside-down shootout wasn't bad either, although it didn't top the lobby from the first movie. But how could it? Morpheus with the dual mp5's was cool as shit. I thought the fight in the rain was probably the highlight of the movie and thankfully it was at the end where it should have been, instead of letting the war at the docks steal the show.
Damn, I wrote a lot about this. On the other hand, it's all because I'm putting off other engagements so it's all good.
Then again, I might be wrong.
well, i kinda thought tha mech thing was cool too, and yea you're right about them digging a deep hole in the first one---overall thou, the triligoy was by far one of the best ive ever seen, and i loved it, i cant wait for their next series!! anyone have an idea on what the Wachoski bros got comin up next?

FUCKIN SUCKED BIG OLD MONKEY'S NUTS. Worst film of 2003 definately!
There was just so much superfluous crap: The trainstation, the little girl. What perposes did these things have?
Why did we see the french guy again?
POINTLESS!!!
All the fucking fights sucked, even the smith one. Neo didn't seem to give two shits about Trinity dying.
Am I the only one who liked part 2 better? It was just trashy fun, with good fights. This one doesnt even have that.

Part 2 sucked LESS, so yeah...I liked part 2 better
As for action, I liked the freeway chase scene in Reloaded better than the Zion battle in Revolutions.
The bit with the trainstation, and the whole idea of the little girl's parents smuggling her out because she was going to be deleted - I thought these were great ideas and they showed promise as far as developing some interesting plot lines. BUT, you are right about them being unnecessary. They DIDN'T really go anywhere, so they just wound up adding to the disappointment.
Well i thought it was decent. I liked it. the story im still trying to get, but the ending JEEZE!! wtf?!? but the battle scenes were pretty good and i was on the edge of my seat. but not showing what happened to trinity or neo blew the fucking ending. and not explaining it enough as well.

trinity? she died. that part of the movie sucked, and showed Keanu's lack of acting skill outside of his typeset.
The part I did like were his eyes hanging in bits off his face. In fact the gore make up kind of surprised me.

My Matrix Theory
k i just finished watching the matrix part II for the second time. and after a couple of theory discusisons and talk i've come by a theory that i really like.
see somewhere it was said (in part II) that smith craves more power. it is what strives him. he wants to be the superior. which can only explain his hatred for neo; for infact concordally neo is stronger faster and more super...-er. arego neo is superior.
now keep in mind i havnt seen the third one and know this may be wrong or unexplained, but i still like it.
in the early part of the first film we find out that the agent is in fact the strongest and most dangerous thing in the matrix. at the end of the second one we find out theres been like five other matrixes before the present one. why was there five other ones? well "theyre" trying to discover a way to eliminate the anemolie, i.e. neo. with each matrix they get closer and closer. now this is where my theory comes in. what if in the first matrix, neo was in fact an agent. maybe an agent turned rogue. maybe too much of a superior being. too much power, too much thought, too much anythign. so those series of agents became absolete; they were deleted. but like other programs that dont wanna die, neo turns rogue and remains alive. now this explains why smith hates neo so much. neo is in fact the superior (ex?)agent. neo is the last one that the now-agents have destroyed, but its sorta like a kick in th ebalss or shit in the face that they cannot destroy neo. which only strengthens smith's hatred for neo. so once in some sorta matrix, neo was an early form of agent (also explains in a more believable matter [besides "hes the one"] why neo can move like the agents, if not faster and better. in fact it was said so in the first film "you move just like them"). so there it is. a viewers interpretation of why neo is so special.
The Matrix will be remembered as the next great sci-fi epic. Too bad it fell short on this movie. I didn't hate it, but I know in my mind it could have been ultimately better.
- Neo went blind, but the story could have gone the same way if he didn't. To me this means he went blind so he didn't have to do a believable crying scene (not that he did anyway.) Keanu is really not a good actor. He could get by in the first film, but it's like he got gradually worse.
- Revolutions did not do what I wanted it to do. Reloaded raised a lot of questions and left a lot of blanks to fill, and I thought Revolutions would tie it all in nicely for a great trilogy. All Revolutions did was raise more questions and really answer nothing. The fact that I need to theorize what actually happened leaves me feeling very unsatisfied.
- Did Zion only have three ships? Where were the rest of them? Why were the mech units so poorly designed? Am I to believe that a futuristic battle machine will offer no bodily protection?
- When the Zion battle heated up, I got really into it. It just seemed so hopeless to think that they would win at all without some massive machine shutdown. Did they do this? No, Neo achieved peace, and it came as quickly as snapping a finger. Smith is dead, thats it, no more war, la de da. Remember Terminator? Merciliess machines without remorse? That is something to fear. That is an enemy to live as legend. Not here though. Just one more idea that the movie ended up spoiling.
- From the trailer, I knew two things. There was going to be a big fight in Zion, and Neo would fight Smith. I thought "cool, I wonder what else will happen!" And it turns out nothing else happened. The movie is really just those two events, with a really slow beginning, harbouring a weak sub-plotline existing solely to give the French guy and his wife air-time they DID NOT NEED. They never needed it. Awful characters to begin with. They could have done a lot more, but it's like they just stuck them in to satisfy their contracts.
And then the Frenchman says "bring me the eyes of the Oracle" and I thought "cool, this will be tough for them to get out of! How will they do that? What will they have to go through?" and then Trinity whips out a gun and makes him change his mind. What the fuck?
- Special effects were nice.
i respect your honesty, but i detest what you're being honest about.
Well the concept no doubt was amazing, but I seriously feel not enough justice was done to any other character but Trinity. That was the only character that evolved completely. Come on, the Merovingian, the architect, Persephone deserved better than this. I hated this completely. Yep the Jesus Christ thing was completely the only thing that was shining through clearly... even the thing that Christ sacrifices himself to wash out all sins of people on Earth [take this as Smith (the evil) had taken over everyone's mind]
Also did anyone notice the 'Tastee Wheat' ad at the station when Trinity and Morpheus were chasing the Trainman?
I dont think so that the characterization was bad... just too less time and too much to deliver killed the aura of every character and as I said no character completely evolved but for Trinity including Neo and Morpheus.
Well they also wasted a lot of time in cliched action movie sorts of battle in Zion... Link's wife and the kid's character and also the commander of the APUs took a lot of screentime than their characters deserved. What seemed to start in a beautiful way was a complete turnoff. But towards the later half... things were better.
Also one thing that I never could understand is the special sight to percieve anything electronic and electric in nature was something I never understood.
And to answer Val's question... all the other ships were lost last time because someone had triggered the EMU, tho we now know exactly who did it.
And yes everything is left unanswered, whatever was raised up in Reloaded just like Val said... they didnt do justice enough.

I also asked myself these questions. The Frenchman scene was a waste of time, and the people looked like stupid GGG pron to boot. I think that whole scene was to show off Monica Belluci's breasts--which I can watch for about an hour without blinking; Italian women are my weakness.
For about the first 40 minutes I thought everything was ho-hum and could have been done better, but the battle scene with the poorly designed mechs and sentinels was amazing. Jaw dropping at times. The way the swirled in unison, the bullets flying everywhere. GOD THAT WAS INTENSE!
The Wachowski Bros. were able to create visuals that remind me of some of my worst nightmares. I think that's why I liked it.
“If you can quit, probably you should.”

I decided about one third through The Matrix Revolutions that I really don't care about the three movies at all, anymore. I'm sure the "war" sequence (sentinels v. humans) is meant to be intense and exciting but is directed and edited in such a way that is just loud, confusing and annoying. To say nothing that it goes on forever. The fight between Neo and Agent Smith reminded me of West Side Story for some reason, and of course wastes no time in becoming boring fast:
"I rule the matrix!!"
(fight for ten minutes)
"You're defeated! I rule the matrix!"
"NO!! I'm the one!!"
(fight for another ten minutes)
And on and on. Like Highlander, except with sunglasses and at night. I stopped caring early on whether or not the machines or humans won, I just wanted someone to win so I could leave.
When the Wachowski's were doing press for the first film, they said that all they wanted to do was make an inventive action movie. That's all. Yet somehow the fanboys inflamed it's superficial "ideas" and made these movies out to be something they're not. There is nothing put forth in these movies that hasn't been seen/thought about before, and better. It's one of those things where the questions are the answers: "Let's put all these things in the movie and watch as they try to 'interpret' what they 'mean' and expound on how 'deep' it all is." Please. These films are like a series of philosophy/religious studies classes taught and attended by chotches. If you want religion or philosophy, go to a library. How many variations on the story of the Christchild do people need?
If you like the idea of a person's entire existence being a construct and/or the idea that ultimately everyone chooses their own reality, read the fiction of Philip K. Dick. These stories predate The Matrix by nearly half a century and are more thoughtful and more intelligently written.
If you want an allegory about the co-existence of humans and technology, rent the movie Tron. Predates The Matrix by about 17 years.
If you want a story about a christ-figure who is conflicted about being both god (supernatural powers) and human (feelings and emotions) at the same time, read The Last Temptation of Christ by Nikos Kazantzakis. Predates the The Matrix by over a decade.

Hahaha...I was thinking the same thing.
Then again, I might be wrong.
Somehow, someway, the Brothers brought us the story of the Bible into a movie that all of us could enjoy.
The ending was way too perfect. The big robot king could have just smiled and said "wow, Smith is dead, now I can go kill all humans without worry" but he didn't. He stood by his words, I guess to show a human trait?

Did you see Animatrix? In one of the segments they explained the the robots didnt want war, the humans did. The humans started it. Not very satisfying, but the best I can do.

me and my friends came up with a weird thought. what if neo was fighting the oracle the whole time, only sati and the oracle were changed back after all the smiths were killed. what if the oracle said let me fight. neo did call her MOM. and the prophet and the oracle had something to do with the making of neo. also how else would u explain WHY A WHOLE FUCKING CITY OF SMITHS WOULDNT FUCKING FIGHT. that ticked me off they all could have jumped in and killed neo and the world would have ended like they wanted. fucking unanswered questions. really chaps my ass

Well i thought it was decent. I liked it. the story im still trying to get, but the ending JEEZE!! wtf?!? but the battle scenes were pretty good and i was on the edge of my seat. but not showing what happened to trinity or neo blew the fucking ending. and not explaining it enough as well. lol... hormones arent necessarily emotions----im referring to the fact that, to my knowledge, girls can say no to sexual activities alot easier than guys can...

I really liked it.
Maybe just because it is over. Nothing can ever touch the first movie for me. That was my 'Star Wars' experience. I really liked it.
In my opinion Neo was just a way to continue to get the kinks out of the Matrix. This verison of 'The One' helped point out the fatal 'Smith' flaw to the programming.
And now the machines realize that they have to let some of the humans go to keep the Matrix balanced...
A fragile peace against two constantly fighting sides....
Can anyone say: Matrix 4?
i thought the end was pretty sweet too....... idk bout the matrix 4 thing..... id like to think that the Wachoski's word ("its a trilogy") can overcome their greed ("aww, but 100mil says different!")

Shit most people didn't notice that stuff. Some people don't look for interpretations. They just sit back and enjoy the ride.
I thought it was good too. But like all huge films these days it will get ripped just for being built up to much.
"I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotisms." Albert Einstein
