Matrix better than Star Wars?
I’m probably going to piss a few people off with this one, but what the hell…
I just saw the new tease trailer for Matrix – Reloaded, and it looked frigging awesome!!
All the hype and anticipation surrounding the release - and subsequent release of the next instalment of the Matrix trilogy - makes me think that the general public are searching for that WOW factor Lucas’s didn’t provide in Episode 1 and 2.
Luke (no pun intended) warm responses, Ja Ja Binks, polished graphics and really bad casting forced myself to seek solace in another film, so why not others. And I know that Star Wars is an institution and that without it we wouldn’t even have the Matrix, but what Lucas did with the new stuff is terrible. I loved the first Star Wars films, but the last two are causing the Robert De Niro syndrome to happen (where all his good stuff is being slowly forgotten because of dodgy acting choices… Rocky and Bullwinkle, Showtime, Analyse That etc…)
I still have a soft spot for the first three, but that’s it. I want more!!! I want 360 degree fighting sequences and bitching gun fights!!
Who’s with me????

matrix is better because the wachowski bros. want to keep people interested in their movies unlike lucas who wants to kill star wars(if you saw the first 2 you understand) thats why when he dies no one else is allowed to make another which is kind of stupid because the best star wars movie IMO was the empire strikes back and he didnt write or direct that one (HINT HINT)
Well, I can certainly see the hype buildling up for the Matrix Reloaded release, but from the stories I've heard, it has yet to reach the epic proportions of the original Star Wars movies or even the lameass new ones. While I'm not saying the new SW flicks are better than the Matrix ones, because they're obviously not, the SW franchise has a lot more of a history and cult following. There are the weirdos who'd stand out in line for hours, even days on end in the rain wearing some crappy plastic suit just for a 2 and a half hour piece of shit. The Matrix may someday be elevated to such a status but is by no means there yet. And I really don't see how any Sci-fi flick could touch the insanity of the first three SW flicks. Maybe it's because you can get advanced tickets nowadays, but I just haven't seen the endless lines of geeks waiting for Matrix tickets.
no comparison.

I know what you mean about the franchise thing. The first three films definitely hold the monopoly on merchandise, but we have to clear the decks and give the new boys a chance otherwise we'll be living in the Star Wars shadow forever. Fresh blood.

star wars - retro science fiction and costumes that look uncomfortable
matrix - high tech special effects and to die for fetish wear
MATRIX- because I never had a high oppinion on Star Wars. Howard the Duck was the much more superior George Lucas films (though he produced it didn't direct it).
"Excuse me sir, Did you wash your hands after you took that big heaping dump. You know that sign, that sign says ALL employees MUST wash their hands after using the restroom, What part of that do you not understand?"- Malcom X

Yeah, I have to admit, I was a bit of a Star Wars geek. Still read the SW novels occasionally, though I don't have nearly the amount of time to read that stuff as I did before.
And I agree that we need to make room for the new, but we certainly can't forget the old. The old Star Wars will always be a historic figure. It's kind of like the English monarchy. Can't forget Queen Elizabeth, but Prince William is a hot piece of ass.

*drags Rents into the fight and slathers him with mud*
There is hope, but not for us.
*Rents grabs both of the girls and joins the fun of mud wrestling with two hot half naked chicks* DOUBLE HELL YES!!!
*whispers to Kitty* Hey...are we, like, hot or something? I wasn't aware of this.
There is hope, but not for us.
Real life has no standing here. In my head, I'm Ewan McGregor, you're hot. That's all that matters. Whether it's true or not when you look in the mirror makes no difference. Now get to wrasslin'!!!
True, in my head you are totally Ewan McGregor. I like that. So cool. *commences wrestling*
There is hope, but not for us.
I really didn't see the big deal with the Matrix. Yeah, it was good, but The Star Wars Trilogy is where my heart lies. If I ever come into money, the first thing I'm buying is one of those metal light sabres.
Having said that, The Matix Reloaded looked amazing, and will be far superior to the newer star wars movies I bet.

There is hope, but not for us.
*climbs up onto the ropes surrounding the mud ring, jumps* FLYING ELBOW!!!!! *lands with a splash of mud near absolutely no one* Damn. *grabs a handful of mud while he's down there for later use...*
rock on, i got tickets for the 10:20 show...three hours to go.
Then again, I might be wrong.
oooh rents stop with the ewan thing!! *humps rents' leg like a small dog*
MATRIX REIGNS SUPREME. saw it tonight. fuck off with that star wars bullshit. even if you prefer star wars, the matrix is the star wars for the 21st century. that's just all there is to it, so you'll all just have to deal.

i saw reloaded. i have yet to see the "new" star wars movies. cause the looked like complete and utter shit. matrix was better than shit.
The movie kicked ass. They really laid it on with the Christ metaphor. While it's not my thing, I think it worked well for them. They had to do something interesting with the plot to keep life in the series, and they did.
They also get bonus points for ending it with Calm Like a Bomb.
Then again, I might be wrong.
I don’t understand why there is such debate over these two ‘lame’ trilogys.
Everybody knows that the ultimate trilogy is the “Home Alone” trilogy. I mean, did anybody expect that ending in “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York”. I was sitting through the whole thing thinking that Kevin McCallister was going to end up a corpse at the hands of “The Wet Bandits” and then, Bam! The Wet Bandits end up back in jail, and Kevin ends up surviving and learning an important life lesson about not judging people just because they like to wear pigeons as a fashion accessory. Totally out of left field.
And who could forget, “Home Alone 3”. I mean, they decided that they didn’t even need to use the same characters as the original three. Instead they used this other kid, and this time he fought off 4 CRIMINALS! Farm Boy Skywalker just beat Darth Vader because he cheated and cut off his saber-hand, and went crying to his daddy for help when the emperor decided to lay in a big of electro-whoop-ass! What a wussy girl! I suppose you could argue that Neo fought off 100s of Smiths in The Matrix: Reloaded, but he did it without building any traps or anything. What an asshat!
d is cool. and in my tired state i cannot think of any other way to express the funny that i'm feelin right now.
Forget I started this thread. Matrix was dull, and if I'm being honest here, so is Star Wars. I guess it's more nostalga than a love of the Star Wars films. It reminds me of my misspent youth, swapping figures and bubble gum stickers. The films themselves arn't up to much. So I guess comparing the Matrix to them was pointless, considering that now, I'm not that fussed about either one.
The Blue Monkeys are coming
yeah D is pretty cool.
Matrix is, past all the glorification and advertisements, a great story.
Star Wars is, past all the glorification and advertisements, nothing, becuase advertisements is all Star Wars is and ever will be.
Matrix came out of nowhere and won over people's views. It earned it's fame.
Star Wars on the other hand, did not. It was a money-fest from the beginning.
Eh. The first two Star Wars films (Episodes 4 & 5) were some decent, intentionally unoriginal, escapist fantasy in the style of movie serials of the 30's & 40's. The first Matrix film was a decent, unintentionally unoriginal, escapist fantasy with (then) good special effects. The rest has been shit.
Btw, both trilogies had their Christ Complexes. The church I attended forbade its parishoners from seeing Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica due to their questioning of the Genesis creation story. To my parents' credit, they pulled me out of church. I have never been a member of one since.
I respect that fact. But I don't respect Lucas, who didn't even write or direct other than the first one, and the new ones.
And I hate Star Wars geeks more than I hate Trekkies. They fucking prance around, believing that Jedi's are a representation of God and a true way of life.
GET IT INTO YOUR HEAD KIDS: IT'S A FUCKING MOVIE!
Not only that, but I read once, that in England a few years ago, 10,000 people wrote "Jedi" as their religion during the census or whatever.

Last year, iirc. And I think there was more to it than that. There was some sort of organized protest against the census because of its refusal to recognize one valid religion or another (don't remember which, if it was ever mentioned...)
But, yeah, episode 4 was great when I was 8; doesn't hold up so well now, but still "decent escapist fantasy". And episode 5 is, without a doubt, the best of the bunch.
That's all I have got to say on the subject.

oh dear sweet Manky. this is for you.
oh and on topic, IMO both franchises are crap.
