Lost: The Final Season
I've been hoping they'd come out with a real teaser trailer for the new season by now before making this thread, but I'm sick of waiting. (yeah, there's a teaser already, but it's just clips from past seasons with the mood music about this being the last one.)
Anyone rewatching all the episodes in preparation? I think I'm going to go through some of the first season and then all of 4 and 5 before it starts. Then when it's all wrapped up. i'll go back again and rewatch all of them.
I'm a little queasy about what they're going to do with Locke. After finding out it's not really him last year, I don't really want to see Fake Locke running around for all of their last season. I fell in love with the real Locke and dammit, I want to see him! It'll feel like I got ripped off if he's really supposed to be dead, yeah that was a great moment, but it just feels like having him die in the middle of last year isn't the classic death scene I was hoping for from him. If they kill FLocke now, it's like, no big whoop.
Also, I can't wait to see how they do finally wrap everything up, but it just feels like there are going to be so many loose ends that it's going to be ridiculous.
It always felt to me like, this entire show was tightly masterminded, and everything they've shown to us was specifically put there for a reason. Like the most intricate multi-dimensional puzzle ever assembled. But as of now, it looks like there's going to be all these extra puzzle pieces off to the side, when the whole thing is put together. Like a lot of the things they showed were just there because "Hey! This will be all mysterious nshit!" and never bothering even acknowledging they happened in the first place.
I don't know how anything could possibly live up to the hype that will be around the end of this show, but if any tv show can do it, these guys have that potential. But, we'll see.
Your thought, opinions, expectations?

I didn't know about the Tuesday thing either. That is pretty screwy.
Yeah, I assume it's going to be a permanent thing because the premiere is on a Tuesday.
Also, has anybody watched those "Mysteries of the Universe" videos about the Dharma Initiative? They were made by ABC and they really don't have a lot of substance, but they're fun anyway. I'm pretty sure you can find them on youtube or they'll be a bonus feature on the season 5 dvds.
But as of now, it looks like there's going to be all these extra puzzle pieces off to the side, when the whole thing is put together.
This reminds me of that Simpsons episode where those old people are doing a puzzle of a Donkey's face, all staring at it in concentration until the last piece goes in, and one woman says "Oh! It's a donkey!"
Has anyone participated in the ARG this year? "Lost University," or whatever it was? I was hoping it would offer more hints and things for the new season, and that even in my not participating other people would share that info online... but I haven't really seen much...
I would love to rewatch 4 and 5, though it might just be 5. The first draft of my graduate thesis is due in mid-January, and I imagine that immediately thereafter until my final semester of classes begins I will do as little as possible besides dull my mind with television, so the question is how many seasons can fit in that time frame...
I think it's time for me to rewatch everything. I'm so excited for LOST to start again.
I'm two-thirds of the way through with re-watching the first season. It's awesome.
Fake, yet Awesome
I really enjoyed Lost through season three or so.
Then it got so complicated and convoluted. The last couple seasons, especially, at the end of almost every episode I was like GODAMMIT, ... resolve SOMETHING for crying out loud!!
Now I: A ) can't stop watching, but B ) can't wait for some sort of fucking resolution. I just want it to be over.

Did you watch any of season 5? They've been pretty much resolving things every episode. Sure, with everything they answer, they open like two new questions, but still...
also, what do you think the over/under is on them just posting a blog with all the explanations to all the things they never bothered getting around to answering the day after the final show, so all the fans won't bug them? I say 50/50.
That's what I mean. 1 resolution and then 2 more questions (or 5) becomes a snowball effect of confusion in my brain. I just want it to be over.
And yeah, my feeling (or fear) is they'll end it, leave a whole bunch of stuff unanswered, and then try and pretend it's all mysterious when in reality they didn't have any idea how to resolve it.
I'd go 70/30 they don't resolve half of what they need to for me to be satisfied.

I think they've already come right out in one of their blogs and said they're not going to bother explaining the whole Libby being in the same asylum as Hurley/giving Desmond the boat thing.
Fuck it, then.
I'll spare myself the frustration and watch the whole damn thing once it's over... in one Saturday or something. I just don't want to bother putting myself through the disappointment. It's like being a Bears fan. You think they're going to come through, but then every week you just end up more confused and wonder why you keep tuning in.

The first four minutes from season 6 can be watched here:

Not too impressive, if you ask me. There were two real possible beginnings for the season, and they chose one of them, and nothing will be as it seems so these four minutes are rather moot... but here they are, all the same!
So do we post in the Lost: The Final Season thread, or in the Lost - The Final Season thread?
Or make a new thread with more punctuation?! WWLD?
I don't like merging, haven't you seen The Fly? It's dangerous!
I think we should post alternative theories in each. That way we can each maintain a collection of contradictory identities that simultaneously exist in different digital/spatial environments.
Apparently they aired this teaser yesterday. It has gotten me more excited for this season than anything else... including last season's finale. Asian people with a giant hour glass, which Jack smashes because he is crazy? I am totally down.
note: this post wont make sense after today.

I missed the first 35 minutes of the season premiere, but I think I've got the gist of what is going on. Season seems like it's off to a pretty good start.
During one semester of college, taking 15 credits (all electrical engineering or physics), working three jobs, running a student org, and building a ROV for a competition I watched all 9 seasons of the X-Files. So you can do it.
Think for yourself. Question Authority.
I never really liked this show. The first half of season one seemed interesting as I like the idea of a bunch of random people put onto an island - but the fantasy elements "ruined it" for me. I've watched the show with increasing disinterest and disgust and by the time Ben Linus was turning that gear and the Island... you know... I was literally talking to the TV and letting it know what I thought of its parentage. The last season finale was *horrible*. Like it took my dog outside and beat it to death with a sock full of ball bearings.
Why do I stick around? Terry O'Quinn.
He's long been one of my favorite actors, mostly because of Millennium but also because of his stuff in The Rocketeer or The Stepfather and anything else I've seen him in. Hell, that one episode of Star Trek TNG even. He's just THAT good.
But Lost is just Twin Peaks: their convoluted continuity stuff has just given way to no possible way they will write a satisfying ending to the series.
Or maybe Lost is like watching The X-Files, starting with season 6. The conspiracy, weirdo continuity crap goes on for so long, becomes so convoluted that theres no possible way they can dig themselves out of it save having Jack wake up in bed next to Suzanne Pleshette.
I construct my memories with my present. I am lost, abandoned in the present. I try in vain to rejoin the past: I cannot escape. - Sartre
Im going to admit that I have never seen an episode of Lost until The Final Season began. I saw the hour long recap of the entire series leading up to the season premiere and I got hooked. Became an instant fan. Since I'm not caught up on the mythology of the show and I don't know where the writers are going with the alternate reality or future of the characters never getting on the island, I do have a theory as to what they are doing in the reality where the characters are still on the Island and fake Locke is roaming around. To me I started seeing some relation to the story of Adam and Eve losing paradise. Paradise Lost. I see how Locke can be the serpent that decieved Eve into eating the fruit of Knowledge, in the way he decieved Linus into killing Jacob. The way the Serpent made Eve believe God was lying to them, Locke convinced Linus that Jacob didnt care. In Eve eating the fruit she killed her idea of who God is. The way Linus literally killed Jacob. Now Locke is going around recruiting people to his side. The way the Dragon was able to turn angels into demons, the same way Locke is turning good people into evil. By preying on the weak minded like the Australian girl, (forgot her name, sorry, still new to the show.) And Jacks friend that died and came back to life, who was tortured by the people in the temple. He had a long fall from grace. Becoming a sort of prophet for Locke. So now Jacob has to set in motion a plan to right everything, for good to prosper again. Like when Paradise was lost, God said that a descendant would come that would defeat the Serpent by striking it on the head. Jacob is trying to get his Candidates ready to take that responsibilty. I know this show throws out many different beliefs, like numerology, and symbolism and the like. And I'm not preaching a certain faith or religion either. These are just some comparisons I found with something that I'm familiar with. I'm sure there hundreds of different theories and ideas and all could be right or wrong in any given circumstance. But I love this show and will keep watching it till the very end.

Where is the other Lost thread with the similar title? It's like there's two different dimensions... we need a merge.
"Nine times out of ten it's an electric razor, but sometimes..."
What are you DOING? This is LOST, you can't just start watching it whenever you FEEL like it! If you like it NOW, you need to see the rest of it; it will blow your mind like nothing else.

I just started re-watching the first season the other day. With enough downtime/boredom, I think I can get through all five seasons before February 2nd...
Speaking of which, why are they moving the show to Tuesdays? That's fucked up.
