"Law & Order" Appreciation Thread
I dedicate this thread to Vendetta!
Who else thinks this (and its subsequent spin-offs) is the best thing on TV!?
Tonight's episode was a good one (albeit rerun): 4 Hispanic boys disappear from Brooklyn in the '70's, and one of their bodies was found in 2005. OMG! The killer turns out, in a horrible Jack Ruby-like twist, to be dying of cancer and refuses to plead guilty.
Talkin' bout:
-Did Mariska Hagitary (spuh) have a baby or something?
-What was the name of that spin-off with real life court trials and real lawyers and fancy things like that that got cancelled after 20 minutes?
-Does anyone else pine away nightly since the death of Jerry Orbach?
-Vincent D'Nofrio: excellent method actor, or twitchy weirdo?
-Spike's excellent Law and Order coloring book thread.
Discuss.
There is hope, but not for us.
i know there's only a maximum of 10 options for one but there ought to be a poll with all the spin-offs so we can see once and for all which one is best

Up until about March Law and Order used to be on all the time, on three different channels it was so great, but now Sky One and The Hallmark Channel have stopped showing it, Channel Five shows it once a week and I'm left with only Murder, She Wrote for my crime busting entertainment! Speaking of which did anyone see the episodes of MSW with Jerry Orbach in them? He was a great character and a perfect foil for Jessica Fletcher.
After he left the regular Law and Order Jerry (I pine!!) went on to do Law and Order: Trial By Jury, is that the one you're talking about that got cancelled?
I don't watch Criminal Intent because of D'Onofrio. That dude is too intense for me, very expressive nostrils.
That short-lived show was Trial By Jury. There's also Conviction, but that's kind of like a second cousin to Law & Order.
Mariska Hargitay is having a baby, or has had a baby. She appeared in a couple recentish SVUs, but usually only from the neck up, and they have her working in computer crimes. She was replaced by a black version of detective Stabler for one episode.
I'd like C.I. more if some of the cases actually went to trial rather than ending when Vincent D'Onofrio compells the murderer to confess in a dramatic fashion.
"Conviction" reminds me a lot of "The Practice." That show was kinda dumb, it couldn't hold a sputtering candle to "Law and Order!!" I wish I could remember the name of the one I'm thinking of...it was really cool, I thought. It was the only reality show I ever actually liked.
Vendetta, will you make me a Jerry Orbach avatar sometime? Maybe similar to the one the Noodle had, like where he has a heavenly glow?
There is hope, but not for us.

Aha!!
YES THAT WAS THE ONE.
^5 Spike!
Why did they cancell that show? It OWNED. They had to bleep out the defendant's swear words!
There is hope, but not for us.
this is one of the very few shows that I will actually stop and watch. SVU that is...CI I'm not too fond of
I watch them all. I am obessed. TNT and A&E, and Bravo show them every day. TNT for the original, Bravo for CI, and A&E for SVU and CI. They are all good, but CI is probably my favorite with SVU, or as Chris from the Sopranos would call it "Law & Or-dah S-U-V", as a close second.

I would love to but this lunatic (whose computer I'm on) doesn't have photoshop OR EVEN MS PAINT!! on his computer. Look here though:

Maybe someone nice will supply a halo and trim and resize it for you.
That picure makes my heart weep with joy.

Wow, he's pre-halo'd in that picture. In kind of a creepy Byzantine way.
There is hope, but not for us.
I ironed that picture onto a T-shirt and haven't worn it since. Maybe it needs to come out of the crate and into circulation.

i like the specila victims unit spin off of law and order
NIcky, did you know ERIC BALFOUR is on "Conviction"? I always think of you every time I see him on that show. Even though the show isn't that good.
There is hope, but not for us.
New season bumpage.
So there was an episode on Saturday of SVU which I must assume is a rerun, but Olivia Benson got recruited by the FBI to be an undercover agent in the inner workings of eco-terrorism, and she cleaned out her desk and Elliott is going to be assigned a new partner! WHAT IS GOING ON HERE. I AM SO LOST.
There is hope, but not for us.
I watch the original Law and Order and SVU, I don't watch the other ones.
copied: "So far, the only regular casting change known for season eight is a very temporary one. To facilitate the maternity leave of Mariska Hargitay (who, with husband Peter Hermann, has recently had a son -- August Miklos Friedrich Hermann), the show has temporarily brought in Connie Nielsen to play warrants detective Dani Beck. Nielsen will appear in six of the first nine episodes, then Hargitay will return to the series. "
so they are using the undercover FBI thing to explain her absence.
I was secretly hoping that Black Stabler (Det. Lucius Somethingorother) would show up again, if only briefly.
Jerry!
I figured it was because she was gonna have a real-life baby, but I was just worried that they were using it as an excuse to kick her off the show or something. Which they'd better not, beings as I want to be her when I grow up.
There is hope, but not for us.
Okay so tonight's episode was a rerun, but they did the preview for a new episode of SVU next week, and Olivia is coming back.
I haven't been following too closely, but she was on a different assignment? Like undercover or something? Are she and Elliott doin' it yet?
Anyway she has a new haircut and it looks rad, but in the preview someone hits her in the head with a blackjack or something.
There is hope, but not for us.
she was undercover for the FBI in some kind of environmental terrorist group.
I used to like the original way back when I was a kid. I watched it with my mom.
The spin-offs lost the true-to-life dark and gritty feel, me thinks. Then again, I'm not a fan of all these new glorifying cop shows (I hate CSI).
Fuck Grisham, the superman!
Spike, if I don't get to watch next week's episode, will you do a play by play update for me?
There is hope, but not for us.
So is Vincent D'Onofrio off CI, or what? It's kind of neat having episodes that end with something other than D'Onofrio getting all indignant and emotional and getting the killer to confess in front of the entire dinner party or whatever.
Best CI moment evar: Where the guy confesses to the crime and starts shouting about how he would've gotten away with it if his partner hadn't compulsively stolen an egg cup from the crime scene, and as the cops are dragging him out of the room, he shouts "EGG CUP!" It's so random.
Who's Jayne mansfield?
I knew she was Mansfield's daughter but not about the curled up in the backseat thing. Damn. Poor kid.
Spike, I read that the show alternates between Chris Noth and Vincent D'Onofrio from month to month, or something. I'm not completely sure. Chris Noth is so nondescript, it sort of bugs me. I forget he's on the show when he's offscreen.
What's up with that new pretty Hispanic girl they have working with Detective Green on SVU? The one that Chevy Chase accused of being a Jew? When did she show up? WHAT HAPPENED TO DENNIS FARINA!!
There is hope, but not for us.
The girl can't help it !

Did you know that Dennis Farina actually was a Chicago cop in real life ?
And also J-Lo's dad in her only good role (Out of sight)

Dennis Farina could come to your house and kick your ass if he wanted to. You're just lucky that he can't be arsed.
There is hope, but not for us.
Vincent D'Onofrio and what's-her-name will be on CI tomorrow.
ALSO!! They're bringing back "Crime and Punishment." I hope it takes this time. I want to HUG IT.
There is hope, but not for us.
Damn you Spike, I can't look at Sam Watterson anymore without giggling and picturing him as a muppet.
There is hope, but not for us.

oh, Her !
I LOVE Law and Order:SVU.
The past two weeks have been reruns....I was so dissappointed.
Olivia is back for good now right? i couldn't stand the Dani chick. I was so mad when her and Elliot kissed! Elliot and Olivia are supposed to be together!
No, I'm pretty sure Elliot and Olivia are like, star-crossed.
There is hope, but not for us.
Spike and Nicky, I keep wanting to text message you guys during the show to say witty and snide things or 'OMG PLOT TWIST!!' every 30 seconds.
Like the "egg cup" thing. Last night on CI this mother with two kids, one of whom was in a wheelchair, screamed at them at the end of the show that they were nothing but stones around her neck. And as they're dragging her out the door, she keeps screaming, "STONES! STONES! AROUND MY NECK!!!"
I was on the floor dying of laughter.
There is hope, but not for us.
If my Law & Order knowin' is correct, the actress who played Dani will play an unrelated character within the next three seasons, but no one will notice the resemblence.
Like how the heroin addict mother who sent her son to rob jewelry stores on CI looks just like another character in the Law & Order universe, and one of the bachelorette party gang rapists has a doppelganger who's an assistant district attorney: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diane_Neal
Ooh I forgot all about that, the female rapist episode. Was she the one that was into autoerotic asphyxiation?
Other shows have done that too, though. Remember the episode of "MASH" where the dude who would later go on to play Col. Sherman Potter had a guest spot (I think 2nd or 3rd season) as a seriously insane officer who tries to court-martial Hawkeye?
There is hope, but not for us.
I'm very curious about the TV movie titled Exiled : a Law & Order Movie.
Has anyone seen it, and can he/she describe it ? It's never been aired around here.
Thanks in advance.

Gen. Steele!
oh man thats a great show, it ends with the court-martial and the gen asking a black guy for his testimony, "but first... a number ! you know a musical number! it's in your blood " and then he jumps up and starts signing "Oh when the sun goes down and the tide goes out / all them darkies like to jump and shout!" and dances out of the tent and Hawkeye is saved !
So last night me and Lucie watched the most stressful episode of SVU possibly ever about a little girl who's been sold to a child pornographer. This kid manages to find a phone and chat to Olivia for hours and it's this whole complicated operation trying to find her. It gave me such a headache. When it was over I noticed that it was from last year which makes it the most recent Law and Order episode I've seen. At the moment they(Hallmark Channel)'ve gone back to playing episodes of regular Law and Order starring Big from Sex and Tea! Those're from prehistoric times, right? I've never seen a post-Orbach episode.
Also, I've never seen a full episode of Criminal Intent. I always seem to catch the tail end and this is always what happens:
Vincent D'Onofrio says something (that when taken out of context seems) weird.
An old person is dragged away in cuffs.
D'Onofrio outlines the moral of the story ("He/She shouldn't have been so naughty etc.")
i dont like the original, but i love ci and svu. they feel so informative.
vincent isnt method- hes only playing one character. did you see him in full metal jacket? not at all the same.
ice t is one cool motherfucker. ice cool.
love,
tom of the fjords
I'm a fan of Captain Cragen.

Did anyone watch SVU yesterday? It was fucking bizarre.
For the Euros, things that are happening this season on SVU:
Elliott and his wife are divorcing
Olivia went to work for the FBI for a few weeks as an undercover hippie
Elliott got a new partner and then they made out for a while and then she transferred and Olivia came back and now there's all this weird tension between them.
There is hope, but not for us.
Stabler is a dumb asshole, actually the typical arrogant American that the whole wide world despises.
Why don't plots revolve more around Munch and Fin ? They are so much more interesting.

I killed that thread.
