La la la la la la la ERAAASERHEEAAAD
I was uh... Just wondering what other people though about the movie Eraserhead.
Just saw it recently and I thought it was amazing.
Palahniuk and Miike.
GODS!

Look at me! Look at me! I'm dark and slightly dangerous!
My favorite part is when the chipmunk lady looks into the camera and sings "In Heaven Everything is Fine." Eek...creepy...good luck getting to sleep after that.
andy
She's listed as "The Lady In The Radiator". And that isn't her voice, it is the late Mr. Peter Ivers of New Wave Theater fame.
I couldn't stop laughing. Just out of unease.
Whoever she is, I still think it's creepy.
andy
She is a he, it is the late MR. Peter Ivers voice.
I like to watch it with my own custom made soundtrack,
its great!
i still havnet found the time to watch it...
try watching erasurehead with shinya tsukamoto's tetsuo (the ironman)..the two have been mentioned and compared a lot.
its always out when ever tetsuo's in..and vice versa

just released on DVD muthafuckas!
only, like, 40 bucks from lynch's website.
I really want to see it. Yet I do not want to pay 'like 40 bucks,' mind you.
well, if you have a cool independent video store in your area, you could probably check it out on video. but if you want to see it on dvd, you have to pay "like 40 bucks".
"La la la la la la la ERAAASERHEEAAAD"
Are you quoting Bruce McCulloch
"Once a year I get drunk in a darkened house for a week and I watch.... ERASERHEAD"
actually I am not sure if I like Eraserhead or not, I love it for its weird Lynchian style imagry but I hate it because it is an 80 or 90 minute movie that feels as if it were 5 times that long.
"Excuse me sir, Did you wash your hands after you took that big heaping dump. You know that sign, that sign says ALL employees MUST wash their hands after using the restroom, What part of that do you not understand?"- Malcom X
"Would you care to lick my sweaty baulz after they have been dipped in the finest venerial juices and sauteed in my own ass-sweat, madam?"- Winston Churchill

The lady in the radiator is a she. The high-pitched voice is that of a he.
Look at me! Look at me! I'm dark and slightly dangerous!
And, yes, creepy.
Look at me! Look at me! I'm dark and slightly dangerous!
I've never really liked Lynch's weirdest films (I still think Blue Velvet is the most over-rated movie of the 80s, despite the godliness of Frank Booth), but Eraserhead is REEEAAAAALLLLY fuckin' good. It does everything right in order to creep the fuck out of you, yet still manages to not make its weirdness seem gratuitous, but actually necessary (unlike: Drive, Mulholland). Then again, I love Dune and Lost Highway, so you might wanna take my words with a pound of salt.
Amazing billiance.
It's not easy having a good time.
Even smiling makes my face ache.
BTW, The Pixies (who else?) covered the radiator lady's little song,
and I wonder if anyone knows the title of it (The Pixies' version), or even the album it might be on.
Thankies in advance.

Whoa, whoa, WHOA!.....did I just say "thankies"!? Fuck, too much DayQuil. Forgive me.

Hrm. I don't remember. The official name of the song is "In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song)", and, frankly, it's right in Black Francis's range

It was a b-side that was recorded twice. Once at the Peel Sessions, and live on the Gigantic EP as "Heaven". It's also on "The Complete B-Side File 3rd Edition".
Nice to see some people have the Bruce McCulloch CD here other than me.

modest mouse slightly covered it too, which doesn't surprise me at all, they being heavily influenced by the pixies and all....
QUESTION: i attempted to buy this the other day (this = eraserhead dvd) from the david lynch website, and was unable to. it said it was putting the item in the kart, yet my kart remained empty. i tried to check out anyway and was denied.
has anyone bought this, or had the same problem i had?
i...must...own...it...

Modest Mouse didn't "slightly" cover it at all. The song just contains a similar lyric repeated over and over again. They give no mention of David Lynch or Eraserhead anywhere in the liner notes. Furthermore, how is Modest Mouse influenced by the Pixies???
Also, we had no trouble getting the DVD. I can see it sitting right over there -----> Yep, right on top of the CD rack #2.

you should be able to tell the influence by listening to any one of modest mouse's songs. this is not a bad thing, there are far worse bands to be inspired by. if you read any article on modest mouse when they first started making it "big" you will find someone comparing them to the pixies.
and since they didn't write the original lyric, i think it is safe to say that they "slightly" covered it. borrowed the lyric, whatever. and since they didn't cover the entire song, they don't need to give credit to the original composers.

Well, the Pixies were my favorite band of all time until I heard Modest Mouse, and I've listened to both bands catalogs more times than I'll ever be able to count, and I honestly don't hear much of the Pixies in Modest Mouse, nor have I ever seen MM compared to the Pixies, nor have I spoken with anyone who mentioned the two in the same breath. I know it's not a bad thing to be influenced by the Pixies, I just don't see it.

I don't know shit about anyone named Modest Mouse. This is not what this post is about. What this post is about is this: If you use any portion of an existing song, music, sample, lyric, whatever, you are legally required to a) credit the original composer, and
pay licensing. This does often fail to happen, however.
Just because he used a phrase found in another song doesn't mean anything. We have a song called "Everything Is Nothing" and Death has a song with the lyric "everything is nothing". I guess we partially covered the song!

OK. Coming from the biggest Pixies fan you'll ever meet, and the biggest Modest Mouse fan you'll ever meet, they really aren't very similar. They don't share many traits, their structures aren't very similar, their singing (outside of some screaming) isn't very similar, the basslines, drumming, riffs, nothing is that similar. I love the Pixies as much as Isaac Brock does, but it doesn't mean my band sounds like them through association. Just because you heard someone say it doesn't necessarily make it true. I'd like examples though, as you could just as easily say that MM is influenced by the Beatles because they play G and C chords.

I just watched the movie several minutes ago. Fucking WOW. So utterly bizarre, even moreso than Lost Highway, which is one of my favorite movies (and I have a hope that it's released on DVD soon as well). Really great piece of work. "Dick Laurent is dead."
Anyway, back to Eraserhead, the movie was so bizarre and numbing, so like anesthesia. Very bizarre in the effect it had on me. The sounds and the images are almost....hypnotic in a way, and put me into a bizarre state of mind. The same thing happens whenever I watch Solaris, which I also, as many of you know, love very much.
I just don't know what to think of the film. Maybe I'm not to supposed to think anything.
Also, I've seen every (full-length) David Lynch non-mainstream film (as in, not including The Elephant Man and The Straight Story, both of which weren't written by him, even partially) and I felt that Blue Velvet was way over-rated as well. Lost Highway way under-rated. Mulholland Drive is well-rated. Every review of Eraserhead is dead-on.
alright...biggest pixies and modest mouse fan EVERRRRRRRRRRRRR IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD...back to our original problem.
they sing the lyric in the exact same way, therefore i think it is safe to say that it is a "slight cover" although not a direct cover b/c they are not covering the entire song. your comparison to the lyric in your band's song compared to the lyric in another band's song does not even compare to what we are talking about, unless you are singing it the same way they did.
and since you are too lazy to look some shit up on google for yourself, i took the liberty of doing it for you...you'd think the GREATEST MODEST MOUSE AND PIXIES FAN EVERRRRRRRR could have done this for himself...ho-hum
2. PIXIES TUNE: Critics have compared Modest Mouse to the now-defunct Boston band the Pixies. Modest Mouse's Isaac Brock talks about the Pixies' influence on his band. We play one of his favorite Pixies songs -- "Hey" -- followed by another Pixies tune, "Here Comes Your Man". (These tunes are from the Pixies' LP DOOLITTLE out on Elektra/Asylum, #9 60856-1.) (3:30)
from: http://www.npr.org/programs/anthem/rundowns/1998/980829.anthem.html (and yes, i realize that this article is from 1998, which is why i said that when they really started making it big, that this was one of the main comparisons)
here is a more recent article from the built to spill website (another band that modest mouse was compared to in the early days) where issac states in the first question that the pixies are one of the main reasons he started playing music...hence INSPIRATION.
http://www.builttospill.com/newsletter9.pdf
i am not trying to say that modest mouse is trying to do the same thing the pixies did. all i am saying is that comparisons have been made, and i for one, can clearly see them. just because YOU have never seen or heard it does not mean that they do not exist. issac has also said that he thinks that they sound more like red red meat, and critics have compared them to numerous other bands like pavement, bts, as well...however, one that i always hear is the pixies.
geesh.

I used the word fan wrong. I'm not a fan. I don't collect posters and shit. On other boards my name is Repeater. You can guess why. I'm really high right now so I'll just say it, but I repeat the fuck out of myself, and it's really god damn annoying. I gotta stop doing that shit. I'm doing this all wrong. I was going to edit that last post, because I more or less misinterpreted your initial post. With that said, I don't like comparing bands. But that's for personal reasons. I hang out with many adversarial musicians who feel the need to make everything a competition, and I got jaded or some shit for seeing it. This shit is like psychiatry, I probably should've written it in a journal or something, but I just posted it on this messageboard instead.
