KICK ASS - a film (may contain spoilers)
well i must say i have been exited about this movie since they announced it over a year ago, although i have never read the comic, the fanboys on a local podcast let me know what it was about. i really enjoyed the first hour or so and then thought it started to fall apart, it had alot of good ideas but the execution was kinda hit and miss, cheesy at times and bad acting at times. i think hit girl fuckin made this movie though, she was bad ass but under used. i'm sick of critics saying she's got a really filthy mouth on her, she said the c word once and the f word twice, i was hopin for more swearing from her actually but understandable as to how young she was and her parents were probably like, uh a few is good.
so over all i liked it but didn't love it, however alot of people do love it so, i recommend you check it out at least once.
any other takes on it?
nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it.
I saw it a few minutes ago. LOVED IT!!!!!!
Of course Hit Girl was amazing. "I'm saving myself for her." lol
Without giving anything away, I thought Kick-Ass was a pussy for most of the movie until his last attack. Even during most of the final fight he was a wuss.
I hate the fat guy who played one of his best friends (and the kid in Hot Tub Time Machine) but I've always hated him.
McLovin was ok..could have been better.
But my GOD! The action scenes were AMAZING!
I was blown away.
I think Nicholas Cage is a terrible choice for Big Daddy. I haven't seen it yet, but it just doesn't seem right.

i do agree that cage was great. i'm interested to hear what you think about cage when you see it scuba.
and the action scenes were amazing.

It seemed as though they ripped scores from other movies. The fight in the lumber shop that the main bad guy watches on tape- they stole that theme from 28 Days Later. I know cause I have it on my iPod.
I'm not sure but I think they also stole the score during Hit-Girl's last fight from Superman Returns? (That's what a friend speculated)
Good music is good music though. Banana Splits Theme FTW!
really good movie
ive been waiting for this movie for a very long time and it paid off.
there wasnt one part where i felt like it was getting boring or falling apart
the acting was great too
They could not of picked anyone better. He was excellent. And I normally hate the man.
bump for the weekend

I enjoyed every bit of this film. Nicholas Cage was great, and Hit Girl stole the show.

^^ I agree with Jack.
Hit Girl was the best and Cage did surprisingly well. My boyfriend said he was playing his own parody. Which seemed pretty accurate. I loved his solo fight scene.
I must admit I didn't like the protagonist, and his love interest side story was lame at times, but overall it was great!

Yes, there can be little debate on that.
I read that Big Daddy was actually a villain and Hit Girl was a victim to his "training" in the comics. Sounds like that could've made a better movie, maybe not as entertaining. I enjoyed seeing Big Daddy and Hit Girl shooting people in the face together.

I have yet to see the film but i just read the comic. I wouldn't say Hit Girl was a victim of Big daddy, dont get me wrong Big Daddy is around the bend but hes not a villain. The comics short enough give it a read. But i can not see Cage playing that role at all. After such flicks as Face Off i have lost all faith in him. I have heard mixed reviews about the film and chances are im going for wait for the dvd release and just rent it.

SPOILER ALERT
I saw it last night. Big Daddy is pretty much a totally different character. In the comic he is this huge guy, and he isn't comical at all. I think Cage did okay as this version of Big Daddy, but he wasn't really Big Daddy.
The first half of the film was pretty spot on to the comic, but then it gets totally out of control. In the book, when Dave tells the girl that he isn't gay, she slaps him and called him a perv and gets her football playing friends to kick his ass and harass him. He does not get laid.
In the book it is also revealed that Big Daddy was not actually a rogue cop. He just made that story up. He is pretty much a psychopath who kidnaps his own daughter because he is bored. He just picked that mob family because he needed an enemy. At the end, after BD dies, Hit Girl is reunited with her mother.
Another huge change to the storyline is the reveal that Red Mist is the mob bosses son. In the book, this character comes out of nowhere, and we are made to believe he is actually a hero(one that smokes pot and drives an extremely expensive car, but a hero nonetheless). When he pulls a gun on Kick-Ass, it is quite a surprise. The movie tried to make this character more human and easier to relate to. In the book, RM is the cowardly one who doesn't want to go into the burning building. KA runs in to save the people, and RM follows.
And what's with the fucking jet pack? I thought the appeal of the comic/movie was that it's a kid in the real world. Then they pull out a fucking jet pack??
I wasn't really a huge fan of the book, anyway. I thought it was pretty funny, but that's it. I'm just never a fan of movies that change the source material so much. It's a totally different story.

I wanna see it next weekend. I've heard a lot about it. I'm surprised it was only #2 in the box office last week. That Dragon movie must be pretty good. (will probably have to see that one too)
"your mind can set you free"
I thought it was an alright movie, but not much more. It's not really my thing either though.
I quite enjoyed the music they picked for the movie. When I heard The Prodigy I got a major energy boost and felt like dancing.
I've seen this twice. I loved it. I've not read the book. I've two opinions on the situation...
1) They should've just made a movie about Big Daddy and Hit Girl.
2) See above.

I read the comic and I'm seeing it on Sunday. I'm really looking forward to it.
The book was so funny. There was a line in it that goes something like, "Six weeks ago I was Heroes season 1. Now I'm season fucking 2." It made me laugh out loud at my lunch table. It's a book that definitely knows it's audience. I can see why it wouldn't appeal to everyone. But the type of people who would read it, would like it.
