Johnny Cash - Hurt (NIN Cover)
I'm pretty sure we have some other Nine Inch Nails fans out there... Johnny Cash recently covered Nine Inch Nails Hurt for his latest album, it is is probablly the best cover of a NIN song I have ever heard, including the NIN tribute albums. you can either buy the latest johnny cash album for it, or find it on your favorite peer-2-peer software.
on a sidenote mark romanek the director of nine inch nails videos closer and the perfect drug (also the movie 1 hour photo with robin williams) has released on his website the video he directed for Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt. you can download it here: http://www.markromanek.com/video/14.html.
the video is shot extremely well, showing an aging Cash reliving some of his past and realizing that it will all end soon... another damn good video from Romanek.
Yesssss, I am n utter agreance withya Svpernaut. I have been trying to download it for the past month to no avail.

If you are considering acquiring this album, please buy it rather than downloading it from someone via P2P. Mr. Cash and his family certainly deserve the dollar or so that he would get from royalties. Thank you.
chut up.

lol i hear ya decalogue, i bought the album... and i don't download many songs from Kazaa, but i know just about everyone else does. so, you know.
mr_gone,
the closer cover is a nice tune...
damn skippy!
and i only download one or two songs to see if i should buy the album.
the poor sad little artists will get a nice check from me.
All i have are these Action Bills.
if you have a slow connection and use getright or something like that to download large files, or if you'd like to save the video to your harddrive to see it whenever you want the direct download link for the video is: http://www.markromanek.com/video/videos/cash_h.mov
just right click on the link and "Save target as..." i like downloading them directly so i don't have to view them in webpages.
Look, I'm a musician, artist, writer. We all know the only people who are losing out in the long run are the CD producing/consumer raping industry. The true artists will find a way to make money doing it because they truly love it. In addition I have bought several cds that I wouldn't have purchased if I hadn't been able to sample the album. Besides, I'm not a big Johnny Cash fanatic and I only want the one song which isn't worth 17-18$.

The whole CD of The Man Comes Around is pretty damn good, and I agree that the Hurt cover is pretty much the best cover of a Nine Inch Nails song yet.
The previous one by Cash, Solitary Man, is also very good, with a great cover of Nick Cave's The Mercy Seat, among others.
It's a great version by one of the greatest songwriter/singers ever. 'Hello... I'm Johnny Cash' Man he is the shit. I saw him in concert a couple years ago when he was touring with his Rick Rubin produced American Recordings work, the first three that is, and he really is an artist, a true original. That is one great biography of his too... "Cash", I mean... he's lived such a great life, fucked-up at times for sure, what with the drugs and trouble with the law, but fascinating read for sure. In fact recently I've been watching his anthology DVD a lot, mostly a compilation of his best songs in video form like "A Boy Named Sue", "Ring of Fire", "Folsom Prison Blues', etc... and it is amazing watching him for over 50 years of changes... still the same, so full of conviction and depth. The Man In Black is about as true and great as any musical artist or human being you will ever see in this world...

That's what I do. Moving on...
thanks for the heads up, I had not heard about that. I have a shitty computer so I'm going to have to check it out this weekend when I visit the manfriend in Chicago.

i agree with those who say that P2P file sharing is only going to hurt the one-hit-wonders of the world. i have NEVER let what was played on MTV and radio dictated what i listen to, and basically that is all they play. if you notice my list of favorite musicians most of the ones i listen to are FAR from mainstream in the US, and the majority of them are european groups that don't have a chance for mainstream here in america.
here in houston the radio stations are such a joke, at least in other cities like LA, NY and large college towns (austin and such) there is a lot wider variety of music played on the radio, but they still throw that cookie-cutter shit in the mix at some point.
before P2P software i usually bought 1-2 CDs a week, and post P2P software I at least double that every week generally because I hear a lot more artists that I would never get a chance to hear in Houston Texas of all places. I mean they would never play Baxter, Morcheeba, Leftfield or any other Euro bands of that nature here... so I love P2P and MP3s.
I just thank Steve Jobs and the boys at Apple for giving me the ability of having 2000 quality songs in my pocket with the iPod... thankfully I never have to listen to shitty radio again in the car or at home.
as for Johnny Cash, HE IS THE MAN! I hate country music with a vengence, but that guy is freaking amazing. and what brock landers was talking about "all of his fuckups" and shit from his life are portrayed perfectly in this video, and you can genuinely feel that Johnny Cash loves this song, and is singing it like he wrote it and it means that much. Fan-FUCKING-Tastic!
The Static-X techno remix of Closer is pretty damn good, too.
A lot louder and more "fun" in a way.
i'm not a big static-x fan, so i think it pretty much sucks ass. but it is a Nine Inch Nails song, so better then hearing them play one of theirs.
O-KAY! I really don't give a rat's sphincter *what* you download with P2P. All I am saying is give Mr. Cash your money. Any chance you get.
Chutting up now.
Svpernaut,
Have you heard Pig's cover of Head Like a Hole? It's unique, I kind of like it.
what about the original version of 'Suck' by Pigface?
if you ever want to buy a crazy album get Pigface's "Gub".
it freaks me out.
All i have are these Action Bills.
Is Pigface any good? What does it sound like? I know members of Skinny Puppy, KMFDM, and Pig were somewhat involved at one time.
Slick Idiot's cover of Terrible Lie kicks ass.

yes they are good.
Pigface is Martin Atkins with alternating bandmates from every where
in "Fuck it Up Pigface" Flea from TRHCP plays bass. Check it out. Most anybody on invisible records (Martin Atkins' label) is good. I particularly like Phylr, a solo project by an ex member of Cop Shoot Cop.
