ITT we talk about Stephen King movie adaptations
Sub-issue: How come Kubrick's movies are always either completely visionary, or complete crap? "The Shining", "Clockwork Orange," "Dr. Strangelove" vs. "Eyes Wide Shut" and "AI." I never see one of his movies and go, "Oh, that was only okay." I'm either fascinated or repulsed.
There is hope, but not for us.
The movie The Shining was VERY different from the novel. Jack doesn't freeze to death in the book, Wendy's a beautiful blonde, the VW Bug they're driving is red, there's topiary, but NO MAZE. I could go on, but I won't because it was still a good movie. The Shining is my favorite non-Dark Tower book by Stephen King, and I wish Kubrick had stuck to the story.
I read this blog about it recently, written by an obvious lunatic, but still interesting. Be careful, though, there's a big giant close up Exorcist face halfway down the page.

Incidentally, I read this whole thing while still in my office about three weeks ago and I was just about too freaked out to walk down the long dark hallway to go to the bathroom before I drove home. Also, I was the only one still on the floor, so it was extra creepy.
Loved The Shining (Nicholson)
Dead Zone (Walken)
Shawshank
Green Mile
Best book of his that NEEDS to become a movie? THE LONG WALK - if done right, could be his best movie ever.

I think the guy who did The Mist and the other King prison movies is doing that next.

The Green Mile fucking suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked!
And Stand By Me was more than okay.

DANNY, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR NECK!
God, Wendy has the most annoying voice that's ever been on my TV. I think she's breaking it.
There is hope, but not for us.
i gots to go offline but i'll be interjecting in the real world, remember this!
Wendy's Olive Oil and it's all i can think about.
Also, can't handle anything right now. I'm exploding with my roommates.
Back on!
I had to stop watching it, it was freakin' me out. Watching Glee now and scaring people with my status updates.
There is hope, but not for us.
Froked out.
I have never seen hope die in quite the same way as it does on Wendy's face when she finds out the snow tractor-thingy has been sabotaged.
There is hope, but not for us.
This is why I can never take the Shining seriously.
This is why I can never take the Shining seriously.
Popeye is one of my favorite movies of ever, and i found out last night that i'm the only person i know who's seen it. Tragic.
Anyway, The Shining blew my heart up last night. Never doing that again.
Hasn't anyone mentioned Carrie yet? That movie is so good. The suspense and camera work is so great after she comes home from the prom. I also love John Travolta as Billy Nolan, he plays the ugly hick role so well!

Aside from obvious cinematic greats, such as Stand By Me, The Shining and Shawskank Redemption, I thought Misery was pretty good. Annie was cast perfectly, but I'm not so sure about the writer.
Thought the movie IT should have ended about 2 hours before it did, and Apt Pupil was pretty lame.
EDIT - Oh yeah, Jane mentioned Carrie, my bad.

It was a staple of my childhood. I still hum this when drudgery gets me down.
Popeye was a movie ahead of it's time. If it came out now it'd make 100 million bucks, but they can't make it now because Ray Walston is dead.
Read this, y'all.
I read it one evening when I was the only one at the office, and I forgot they shut off the lights at a certain time to conserve energy. I had to pee so bad before I drove home, and I had to walk down a looooooooong dark hallway to get to the bathroom. I finally got there, only to realize there were no dim-emergency light things in the bathroom, and I wasn't going to be able to prop the door open. I said, fuck that, I'll just hold it, and then I walked back down the hall only to bump into one other co-worker who I didn't realize was there. I screamed, which scared him, and then he screamed too. I quickly explained why I had been so scared, but I'm sure he just thought I was crazy.
Oh my God hilarious thread! I love The Shining .
"I'm just gonna bash your brains in. I'm gonna bash 'em right the fuck in. Heh heh."
I'm really not a fan of Stephen King's books but I love the TV and film adaptations, from something obviously brilliant like The Shining right down to the deranged Rose Red mini-series. Stand By Me and The Mist are both wonderful and even IT (which was kinda boring) had its terrifying Tim-Curry-hiding-in-a-storm-drain moments and featured John Boy Walton and his mesmerising mole.

Boooooo, I liked Secret Window and 1408 should've been up another level.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
If I wasn't an avatar purist I'd have to change over to a picture of John Boy.
Aw, daddy! I cain't do ma chores I gotta take part in a dance marathon/gaze outta the window with my glasses on/sleep in the hayloft cause we've taken in a vagrant etc etc etc.
I just love The Waltons.
I don't remember why I rated Secret Window so low. I think it was because I was over-exposed to Johnny Depp at the time and had some antipathy towards his movies.
There is hope, but not for us.

pfft, I'm watching Kill Bill Vol. 2 on TNT
