knox, anytime someone says something against you, you call them a music nazi or an elitist, yet you've been raving about how only the "choosen few" should be allowed to dress in a certain style that has long ago been commercialized. You seem very angry that Hot Topic sells pre-punk clothing because it is suppose to be a creative act. well, if that is so, than be a little more creative and do something differnet with your clothes. It doesnt make it more creative just you're doing it yourself if all you are doing is putting in the token staples and making the punk required sleeve cuts. All folk art, countercultural movements, fashion statements and so on are eventually noticed by the mainstream and capitalized on, this is when the true "creative punks" must come up with a new way of expressing themselves instead of whinning about the posers who stole their look. If its about creativity and attitue like you say, and not about style, then the clothes they sell at hot topic does not have to be the definition of punk. Create the "new look" for punk and the hot topic look will be synonomous with wanna-be. Cry that they shouldn't be allowed to dress like that and you're wasting your breath. You dont change things by complaining about them, you change them by starting a new movement or a different way of being. And if that doesn't help, remember this, knox, if there were no hot topic wanna-bes, who would you feel superior to?
