one of my dj-peers loves Gang of Four. she lifted her show title and intro song from them; Damaged Goods.
every goddamned band now says they're influenced by gof. which is ok by me, i guess. i hear they're remastering entertainment! and there's going to be a spring tour. i think i'll go to this. i skipped the pixies but we'll see how the finances are looking. i first heard this album maybe a month or two ago and flipped out about it - see several posts on here as i went through my first listen.

You can't go wrong with either of those two. If you want one that will put any relationship you ever had into perspective, and at the same time be blown away by some fucking killer songs, go for Blood on the Tracks. If you want a little bit of everything, and one of the most influencial rock albums of all time, by for Blonde on Blonde.
But if you want a little sampler of a bunch of different Bob, PM me your address and I'll make a compilation for you. Honestly, I've got 50 albums of his that pretty much span from 1961 until 2004. Although I'd say to run out and buy any of them, if you want to save some money first, I'll try and give you a nice taste of them all so you can see which Bob you like best.

In that case I think Blood on The Tracks will be my first Dylan album to buy, as shit has gone shittier recently in the love life department. 50 albums? Shit, I only own like 80 albums overall and my freinds think I am nuts. But than again, I have a music addict for a buddy who believes he is still not complete with three guitars, two basses, a drum set and 300 albums. So Maybe i am not a freak. Anyways, a mixed disc would be awesome. How come everybody at the Cult is so giving? Man!

"... got this store bought way of saying I'm ok..."
Currently on a scattershot loop in my room:
Roots Manuva - Awfully Deep
Bright Eyes - Wide Awake It's Morning
Magnetic Fields - I
Smiths - Best of
Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose
Mull Historical Society - This Is Hope
Sparklehorse - Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot (revisiting one of my fave albums of the 90s)
I'm still an album buyer, very rarely download, but put my cds onto my mp3 walkman.
As a recent example of an album that would have had much less of an impact on me if I had just heard it as a selection of individual songs: The Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free. That album doesn't just have musical connections running through it, but there's a goddam STORY running through the tunes!
Albums 4eva.
Hey - Mocky
Just noticed your sig. How do you know Banksy? Is he big in Canada?
I went to Uni in Bristol at the time when Banksy was just getting noticed. My mate knew him quite well and told me this guy was going to be huge. He's left some MASSIVE murals and tags around Bristol.
Also - I went to the unveiling of his first street sculpture last summer in Clerkenwell, London. It was full of media-twats and I must say that I was sorely disappointed. I love his artwork, but the sculpture was crap. A really obvious play on the Statue of Liberty as a whore kinda theme....
Anyway - good call with the Banksy quote!

I never really got into the whole download thing, except for when Napster was first recommended to me back in 1999. But I only really used that for those songs that you like, but don't really remember who they were by, and don't really want to go out and buy an entire CD for one song that was cool back when I was six, or something.
My one true vice I suppose is buying cd's. I have over 600 of them. I used to be that way with movies, but I sort of gave that up and sold most of them off.
As for everyone in the Cult being so giving, perhaps, I think that has a lot to do with a lot of us being in the same financial standing, or lack thereof, and a lot of us seem to appreciate helping out one another whatever way we can.

Josh Freese is a guy who drums for a ton of bands; he's played with Devo, The Vandals, A Perfect Circle, and a ton of other artists. He put out a solo album as kind of a gag, similar to Tenacious D, but electric. It sounds more like a punk album. The lyrics are hilarious and the whole album shouldn't be taken too seriously, but I think it's actually a solid album. I'd download some mp3s first and if you like it, get the album.
As for Failure, the easiest way to categorize them is they're an alternative band. I've gotten into them in the past couple years and they're probably one of my favorite bands, but that's just me. "Comfort" was the first album they put out, but if you want a better idea of what they sounded like before breaking up, download some songs from their "Magnified" or "Fantastic Planet" albums. Those two albums sound amazing and yet they never got much commercial success.
If you use SoulSeek, you won't have any trouble downloading mp3s from either of these guys. Let me know what you think, even if you think they suck.

That's the first one I pulled out too.
A bunch of friends of mine used to be in a Dream Theater Tribute band and they were amazing. That's how I got turned on to them in the first place.
But Scenes is a good ride, top to bottom, even though at first I hated it.
I didnt really get dream-theater the first time i heard them, then again i first heard they're "Awake" album which in my opinion, is my least favorite one. After that i heard "images and words" and got hooked up.

In no particular order:
Lemon Jelly - Lost Horizons
Radiohead - Amnesiac
Emiliana Torrini - Love in the Time of Science (although I usually skip track 8)
