I recently watched " Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom" .....it was amazing!
I cannot believe people consider that film a classic (I rented it on a Criterion disc!). Utterly pointless depravity in my opinion, and a waste of time. And I'm one who normally likes to have my buttons pushed by films. At the end, I expected some comedian to jump out from behind a curtain with a flourish, smile, and say: "The Aristocrats!"
You know the director was murdered shortly afterward, right?

LMFAO! Best description of this movie that I have ever seen.
I found no film to top its shock value, though I haven't seen antichrist yet.
"They sold you hippies grunge, hip hop, now liberty activism."
Never seen Salo. But I enjoyed Antichrist to the fullest. Such a good film.
My favorite filmmaker is Michael Haneke, so I figured I'd watch some of the movies on his Top 10 list. I watched Salo, and I didn't like it. Like Kirk said, it was all about the shock factor, which did nothing for me. Antichrist looks really interesting, though.
Well, I thought it was genius. The book as always is 100 times better, and disturbing. A great art film.
I've seen it. and I don't know how anyone could say they "liked" this film, even if they "liked" liked it, ya know? I don't know if I agree that the shock is the only thing going for it or not, but, historically, it's one of the first to do shock value and, cinematically, it shows how to do it the "right" way: full-bore and all out! A lot of these shock and gore movies today will sure show you a lot but they will always hold back at some point. Salo has absolutely no boundaries.
Also, that little bird-faced lecher is the creepiest thing I have ever seen and that little piano tune playing over everything. Jesus, gives me shivers just thinking about it.
Are you calling me a liar? I'll take a picture of me watching it if I have to!
y'see there's this thing called the internet...

Seen it, didn't care for it. The only thing it had going for it was the shock factor, which is pretty dated.
