I need a new tv series to devourrrr.
Trust me on this Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles. I thought it would suck too, but became one of the most emotionally invested show I ever watched. Warning, it ends on one of the biggest cliffhangers ever. Why did fox pick Dollhouse over this?
I just finished watching The Wire, so I second that.
The original British version of The Prisoner. Trust me, avoid the AMC remake.
Misfits, it's really silly, like really silly, but still interesting none the less.

I thought the AMC remake of the prisoner was pretty damn good. Especially for just being 4 episodes. If they had run it any longer, it would have gone downhill fast.
They're not series, documentary mini-series, but if you can find them: Michael Palin's Around the World in 80 Days and Full Circle are SPECTACULAR! In fact, skip all these other shoes mentioned and get these first, then go watch the other shows.
also, look for a short-lived comedy central show called Man Bites Dog. Featuring a young Zach Galafinakis. Also, if you can find it, his VH1 series Late World.

The miniseries was six episodes.

You're right. I forgot they ran two episodes a night. Either way, anything more than four nights would've been too much though.
Oh my God. How could I have forgotten Boston Legal? It is hands down the smartest written show I have ever had the pleasure of devouring. Trust me. Don't wait another minute. All of you, if you haven't seen this show, it's worth getting Netflix just so you can rent this entire series.

The Riches. Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard's performances are amazing. Also only two seasons.
I agree, I was so pissed off when they didn't bring it back. I tried watching Dollhouse once... that all, I didn't like it. I guess the station likes Assassin Hookers over any decent Sci-Fi dramas now. And I had heard they were going to tie it into Terminator Salvation somehow as well. And the Cliffhanger was pretty crazy too.

Our favourites :
Six Feet Under
Pushing Daisies
Father Ted
I also recommend Spooks, the british series about MI5 (counterintelligence) agents.

2 episodes a night + 3 nights = 6 episodes
> 4 nights = no good
3 nights < 4 nights
I'll remember to show my work next time.

I believe he meant 2 episodes a night x 3 nights =6 episodes.

Yeah, I think the only reason I watched so much of Dollhouse was because it was Whedon, and he did Buffy. I think I'll also throw Buffy: The Vampire Slayer into this list.

Leverage.
It's kinda like Burn Notice only instead of spies helping people, they are professional thieves. It's also funnier than Burn Notice. Every episode is like watching a heist movie. Also the title of the show shows its real focus (on giving people who are being taken advantage of leverage over the corrupt such as corrupt companies, corrupt millionaires, (corrupt people with power) etc..)
There's the leader (who lost his son to cancer which could have been treated had it not been for the corrupt corporation he used to work for), the muscle (with a dark past), the grifter (a failed actress who is only good at acting when she's conning someone), the explosives expert/thief (the funniest character, her backstory is that she blew up her house when she was 7 because her dad thought she was too old for a teddy bear), and the brains (the tech guy who develops kind of an odd relation with the previous character mentioned)
Oh in case you thought I was kidding before I'll mention it again. WATCH BOSTON LEGAL!!
*The controversial issues in the show mirror the political climate of the time (Bush)
*Also James Spader's speeches to the juries are always moving.
*The humor of the show borderlines ludicrous (there's a guy who can't stop accidentally killing people with blunt instruments).
*The characters are likeable and EXTREMELY well developed. (Everyone has issues that they start with and grow with or away from.
*The constant breaking of the fourth wall. (What if people are watching?" Well, hopefully, if they are longtime watchers they've come to expect this sort of thing by now.") ("Hey, haven't seen you in a while." "With you guys moving from Tuesday to Thursday, it's gotten too complicated.") ("Kiss me." "No." "C'mon, it's sweeps week!")
*The friendship of James Spader and William Shatner's character.
So like I said before. Freaking watch it.
Here's a kind of older one, but if you've never seen Millenium go rent Seasons One and Two of that. Season Two in particular, the episode The Curse of Frank Black specifically. The Third season they caved in and pretty much just made it a carbon copy of the X-Files, going so far as to copy exactly plotlines and locations. But those first two, top notch horror television!
I just re watched the last season of The Wire and can we just re-oooh and ahh over this show for a while?
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
6 feet under...brilliant show
I started watching Fringe. I really like it but, is it me or does the show resemble X-Files?
Skins is pretty bad ass. British show, teen drama/comedy deal but it's righteous IMO.
Shameless, another British show. It's about a working class family from Manchester, really fucking funny.
You've seen 12 oz. Mouse so I'll just go ahead and assume you've seen Metalocalypse. If you haven't, please get on it ASAP!
I'm watching Firefly at the moment but I'm pretty sure I'm the only person on the planet who hasn't seen it all yet >.<
Dark Angel, but it's pretty old so I guess you've probably seen it..Oh, and Veronica Mars
Well I ain't sure but I've been told,
He's baking cakes inside our souls.
exchange aliens with parallel world and you've got Fringe. They did have a good little tongue-in-cheek moment on one episode where there being reviewed by congress or whatever and they mention "The old X designate division."
I like the show, the first season was kind of all over the place but by the finale they hit their stride and all of the second season was pretty solid. The only thing that bugs me is the one lead chick. It's like they decided "Hey! Let's do X-Files with a couple of young sexy 20 year olds!" Maybe if they had started it as her being a rookie agent and being thrown into all this, but it always seemed like she was supposed to be a seasoned agent.
On an unrelated note, does anyone know when the new season of Eastbound & Down starts? it's gotta be soon!
The Boondocks is satire at it's best. And you know, there's always FRIENDS!

I love Fringe. Its whole story and science are right up my alley. I have been reading and watching science shows on alternate dimensions since I was 5. Its always been a peculiar interest to me. However my shrinks did not think it was all that healthy when I was a kid.
I am patiently awaiting the return of Kenny Powers.

Speaking of that, I noticed last night (i'm watching season 2 right now) Agent Dunham was doing some sort of crime scene investigation and found an Oceanic flight 815 ticket that someone apparently didn't use.

When the show Fringe first came out - I read in Esquire that there was supposed to be some crossover between Fringe and Lost. I'm just finishing Season 1 right now, and I really haven't spotted anything yet. That's kinda cool. I started watching it hoping to spot a bunch of stuff referencing Lost...

I think the little easter eggs, like the plane ticket, will probably be the closest thing to a crossover they ever have.
I wouldn't mind seeing them having like guest stars from Lost but I can't see them having the actual characters from the show crossover. It's just different universes.
Did anyone see the Fringe episode with Peter Weller? Fuck, I forgot how good Robocop could be when he wants too!
Also, just finished downloading every episode of WKRP In Cincinnati.
Man, what a perfect storm of casting every single character!
It's not the best copies. Transferred from someones old VHS tapes it looks like, but it's got all the original music they used on the show, which is impossible to find on any of the DVDs.
also also, watching it, they were crazy back in the late 70's/early 80's. Bailey was far and away the sexiest one on that show. Not Jennifer! Were they frickin' blind??!
Today I finished Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. I forgot how good that show was. Sigh.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
McKay kept talking about Twin Peaks on facebook, which got me started watching it again. That's been what I've been watching at work lately.
Deadwood (1st season is just about as good as anything you will EVER see), Arrested Development (have yet to see a show so consistently funny and good), The Office (season 1-3), Nip Tuck (season 1-3), The Wire (for sure, you must see), Dead Like Me (brilliant), The Shield (one of the best overall endings ever, still don't know how it got robbed for an emmy in it's last season), Modern Family (i am probably alone here but I think it might be a new classic), and Mad Men.
That should keep you busy for awhile

Oh shit and yes....East Bound and Down, Six Feet Under, and Trailer Park Boyz

I've been trying to get the girl to watch Twin Peaks for a while, but alas.
I think I'm due for another watch soon.

Wait - it wasn't you that was talking about it, it was Berto! haha
Or were you talking about it too?
Oh man, this is one of my favourite shows ever. Sorkin rules. It's so sad it didn't get picked up again. They had to rush the story arcs a bit at the end there, which sucked. It is nice to revisit it every so often though.
Fucking Louie.
Or were you talking about it too?
I was talking about it with Matt pretty often and had figured I'd talked to you about it and forgotten.
... guess we both made a boo-boo.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
Either way - Great show!
I just watched the 1st season of Eastbound and Down. It was okay.

yeah everyone has been talking about it recently because it as brought up when I discussed an idea for a story. All my lovely american buddies said it reminded them of Twin Peaks. I bought it last week. I watched the first episode two nights ago, but haven't ha a chance to watch it again because I've been reading richard's book. it was pretty awesome. Old and kind of lame acting at times, probably due to lame dialogue and some shit characters, but I have a feeling the plot and twists and reveal is going to be fucking awesome.
Have you seen the movie Twin Peaks Matt?
I've got to plug Deadwood again. Great show. I'm in the middle of the first season right now. Ian McShane is brilliant as all hell in this.
The show also doubles as a drinking game.
Any time someone says "cocksucker," you have to take a drink. Watch out for the Mr. Wu episode. They say "cocksucker" about 20 times in a 5-minute span.
Deadwood is real hit and miss for some people, but I think it's one of the greatest TV shows ever made. The first season is nothing short of brilliant. Ian McShane was Al, I mean he was brilliant. I remember watching the blowjob monologue for the first time when it aired on HBO and thinking, holy shit, this guy's getting an Emmy off that one scene alone.
Rumor has it that Ed O'Neal (Al Bundy) originally was going to play Al.
Brad Douriff as Doc Cochran was brilliant too, I still can't believe he was the voice of Chucky. The scene where he got on his hands and knees and prayed for mercy for the priest was also Emmy bait.
You could take just about any scene from season one and put it up against anything and it would shine.
Here is the famous "cocksucker" scene....
[Wu is explaining his problem to Al by drawing pictures]
Mr. Wu: Bok Gwai Lo... cocksucka!
Al Swearengen: Yeah, glad I taught you that fuckin’ word. These are whites, huh?
Mr. Wu: White cocksucka! [shows empty bag]
Al Swearengen: Two white cocksuckers killed him and stole the dope that he was bringing to you.
Mr. Wu: White cocksucka! You, Swedgin.
Al Swearengen: [suddenly enraged] The dope that you were gonna fuckin’ sell to me?
Mr. Wu: White cocksucka.
Al Swearengen: These two white cocksuckers? Who the fuck did it?
Mr. Wu: Wu?
Al Swearengen: "Who," you ignorant fuckin’ chink!
Mr. Wu: Wu!
Al Swearengen: Who? Who? Who stole the fucking dope?
Mr. Wu: Cocksucka!
Al Swearengen: Aw, Jesus.

I just watched the 1st season of Eastbound and Down. It was okay.
By no means do I think Eastbound is a great show, but it's worth checking out...it has it moments. It's cool to see networks give a show like that a chance.
It's better than Hung at least.
Two shows that I highly recommend are It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (season 1-3) and
Breaking Bad (it is rare that TV can make my hands sweat, and be on the edge of my seat. Fantastic cinematography, editing, writing, directing, and of course, the role of Bryan Cranston's career.)

Oh, I agree. I like Danny McBride and was happy for him he had a show. I just commented because I had watched it recently, is all. I have Breaking Bad at home now from Netflix. I'll be watching that this week, probably.

i just finished the first two seasons of sanctuary. a little weird, a little too inflated with common lore--you know, jack the ripper sitting down and sipping brandy with the dude sherlock holmes was designed after, and bigfoot and whatnot--but i liked it.. mind you, i really liked the premise of the dresden files but they made waaaay too many of those episodes far too cornball. sanct didnt get pushed that far. a different kind of show, and a few episodes were special, so that's something to check out while they get to filming season 3.
just finished the first two episodes of hung. jane thomas is a flaky father with mounds of debt who goes into the world's oldest profession, because he's hung like a horse and has no other talents. i'll probably get to the rest of them in the coming weeks..
californication equals some great moments. well written, has a bit of edge, and david d plays a great prick.
im just so picky with shows, for some reason. im still religious about simpsons and family guy, but i took a pass on medium after the second season.
louis ck is coming to fx after his showtime series was canceled. i liked the first edition of the show, it was funny and i coulda peed a few times, but the acting was soooo fucking awful. i blame the direction and the production, mostly, being that his wife in the show is a terrific actress (and a main character in californication) yet she sucked in lucky louie. come this wednesday night, we'll see how much the show has improved.
and that's about all i got. in 98, i collected all of the to-date episodes of the x-files and binge-watched them for like two weeks. loved it.i just dont have that much time on my hands anymore is all.
