"I like all kinds of music","people I hate"

It's probably just the fact that it's a new page.
I will never be able to really respect hip-hop and rap. I've heard the "good stuff" and "old school" and all that. But it's just not me. I'm not the sort of person who listens to it, and never will be. Ever. I don't care about what beats they use, or how sly they are with their rhymes. I just don't care. I have respect for some bands/groups/whatever more than others. Shit like "50 Cent" makes me want to hammer a nail into my eardrums, where "A Tribe Called Kwest" I can listen to without much problems... but it will never ever be something I want to listen to leisurely. Punk rock is what I grew up on, and I listen to it still to this day. Pump the volume up as loud as it goes and sometimes, at the right moment, it feels like a drug and it's perfect.
As I'm getting older, my tastes are getting more elcectic though. Some of my favorite bands are stranger... like DeVotchKa, which is sort of a cross between Eastern European, Mariachi, Romanian, Gypsy music. Then there's Cassino, a Southern Alabama band that no one's ever heard of with dreamy, twangy folk-rock. Mogwai, Clint Mansell, amazing instrumental pieces... I also like classic bands. Love The Beatles. Like Johhny Cash. Like The Rolling Stones, Elvis, some Everly Brothers... Sex Pistols, Ramones, Social Distortion, whatever.
But I'll never be able to listen to everything. I still sort of think of those people as musical sluts. No offense.
that movie was awesome. i saw it when i was the marines and a lot of guys renting it because they ended up liking it too, excellent soundtrack. samuel l jackson before he started appearing in the weirdest/crappiest roles in movies since john wayne was cast as genghis khan.

I started thinking about the anture of what defines good music and i've come to the conclusion that 99% of everything ever done was a waste of time.
if you think about it, and you ask someone if they could be doing anything at this moment, what would they do? chances are that it is going to be something other than what they are actually doing.
that's probably the most depressing thing i've ever thought of.

what does that have to do with what defines good music? even the music you don't like means a lot to a lot of people out there. it isn't a waste of time.
the day i succumb to hip-hop is my apocalypse.
I could probably find music I enjoy in every genre to be honest. I don't see what's wrong with keeping an open mind when it comes to music.
