Horror.
I would like some suggestions of good horror movies.
I'm a huge fan of the genre but getting fed up with all the 'teen scream' movies that overload our screens. Recently I bought Grave Encounters & The Devil inside me and they were ok, better than I thought they would be to be honest.
A friend said she watched a Korean movie called I saw the Devil. She said it was quite good but I've yet to check that out & since movies are talked about a lot here, just thought I would ask,
Thanks.

Just a flame on a river floating away.
I saw you post about this in the Movie Talk thread and I had recently saw a couple decent horror films but I can't for the life of me think of what they were.
If you remember Audrey I'd appriciate the names.
& yes Imke, it shouldn't be this hard to watch a decent horror movie should it.

I have a few old ones in mind if you haven't seen them
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057129/ The Haunting
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078767/ The Amityville Horror
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056869/ The Birds
I really enjoyed

What kind of horror are you looking for exactly? Thiller? Slasher?
Insidious! It's so, so good.
Didn't we discuss a bunch of scary movies somewhere? Was it the Movie thread or is there another horror movie thread somewhere?
I like movies along the lines of Insidious and movies that deal with the paranormal.
James Wan & Leigh Wanell are producing some of the best horror movies at the moment.
Dead Silence is a good film if you've not seen it.
I'll check out Woman In Black.
I do prefer suspense rather than slasher although sometimes they can be good. I'll watch the gore in the Saw movies as they're awesome!

if you are more into suspense I hope you`ve seen this one already:
HAZE (japanese short film)
I`ve seen that martyrs was already mentioned!
you should definetly check out these two movies as well. both french productions:
L`interieur (Inside)
High Tension:
I saw the devil is awesome as hell. The cab scene alone is worth watching.
.I'm beginning to believe that anything I do to extend my life is just going to be outweighed by the agony of living it.
I like classic scary movies the best but also some new ones.
The Shining
Rosemary's Baby
Psycho
Repulsion
Good choices Alecia, especially the Roman Polanski two.
I love all those pre year 2000 horror films that overlap with the psychological thriller genre i.e. Candyman, Silence of the Lambs, Lost Highway and Jacob's Ladder.
Did you watch it yet? I watched it last night and it was a really cool movie, so I'd definitely recommend it!

You know what was surprisingly good and gorey? Feast. Hilarious and disgusting.

I've never seen "SHAKMA", but the idea of a baboon that mauls people is very frightening to me.

Jennifer Anniston movies scare the bejesus out of me.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I've never seen a movie fall completely apart as fast as this movie did.

I'm gonna add another Korean suggestion. It's not so much horror as it is heavy suspense and creepy tone, but Mother was a fantastic film.
I've been meaning to see that. I loved the directors previous film, The Host.
Also I love these films even if they're all just riffs on the same premise:

I watched the The Possession last night. I thought it was alright but not the 'new Exorcist' it was said to be. It's worth a watch if you like these type of movies and Sam Raimi is a good writer.

Horror is genre which is always mine favorite. There are lots of horror shows and movies that i have seen. Currently i'm following a show named The Walking Dead. Its quite nice show to watch. And I enjoying it so much.
What a coincidence! I'm enjoy Walking Dead at this present moments as well.
MartinHulk1 like Walking Dead.
MartinHulk1 no like puny zombie.
MartinHulk1 smash!
This is why we can't have nice things.
Could you imagine how not-badass The Hulk would be if his name was Martin?
Actually a tv show, not a movie, check out Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. Very scary.

darkplace is too hilarious to be truly scary
Place sounds dark.
watch out for the space broccoli.
I think I need to see "Crab!!".
This is why we can't have nice things.
Sinister was pretty good!

Argh, my boyfriend was obsessed with that when we first met.
On an unrelated note, is Poltergeist a good flick for Halloween? Or has it dated so unbelievably badly I should watch something else? (I like the classics).
I'd go with it.
This is why we can't have nice things.
We went and saw Sinister last night and I was overall disappointed.
I mean it certainly scared the heck out of me, but over all there were just so many ways it could have been improved or areas that could have been elaborated.
I was frightened but unsatisfied.
I also guessed the "big twist" or whatever you call it a quarter of the way into the movie. I knew what the end reveled about the kids, I mean, at the very beginning.
It could have been great, but they relied too much of cliche scare tactics and safe ways to freak the audience out rather than really bring everything that could have been brought with the story-line.
Thanks! I will.

Yeah, I agree. I loved about the first 3/4 but then at the end it went to such familiar territory. I was really disappointed with the end!
BUT I really liked Ethan Hawke! He was great and I liked the attention to detail with his character's books and I liked the scenes with the grumpy old policeman and the videos did unnerve me.
I wish it hadn't gotten so lazy at the end. I wish it had surprised me.
Haha me too, a few times when he opened the door I was like, "It's DAY TIME?"
Yes! The stupid dark house!!!
And if I were searching the house for an intruder in the middle of the night i would be HITTING LIGHT SWITCHES!
It really did get lazy in the end, and they could have done so much more with the elaboration on the mythology of the deity.
I really like Deputy So and So.
I like horror movies so much. These movies are horrible but so entertaining. When i watch horror movies i was so scared but enjoy so much currently also i enjoy it.
I recently saw " possession "
Awesome movie
we watched Halloween 4 on halloween night, because netflix or hulu don't have halloween 1 or 2. WTF?!
Ha! We watched Halloween 1 and 2 on Halloween!
Lucky you! Seriously, the Netflix selection was pretty poor.. no Friday the 13th movies either? Laaame
That's why you still have to own your favorite movies.
AMC was playing nothing but Halloween and Friday the13th movies. Good ol' TV is good if you don't mind some of the edits, which aren't bad when it comes to those old flicks. Newer ones are a bit more graphic.
Si vis pacem, para bellum

I might watch I Saw The Devil sometime soon as well.
Ehm, I liked Martyrs. Other than that, there aren't really any horror movies I think are good.
