Favourite Dated/Aging Music Videos
I love watching VH1 and the old music videos. They're so much more fun than all the bollocks you get on Kerrang channel, Mtv2 etc today.
List your favourites.
Fight For Your Right- Beastie Boys
Can't Touch This- MC Hammer
Bullet With Butterfly Wings-Smashing Pumpkins
The Nobodies-Marilyn Manson (ok, it's not exactly 80s)
Nothing Compares (to you)-Sinead O Connor
Like A Prayer- Madonna
Good Vibrations- Marky Mark (Mark Wahlberg)
Say No More (Mon Amour)-Maxwell Caulfield
I'm Going Slightly Mad-Queen
Welcome To My Nightmare-Alice Cooper
sledgehammer and take on me win this contest, while they're still pretty old they're still technically they're brilliant.
Some that jump out in my mind...
"Come on Eileen"...a special video, with the people on the street corner in overalls
Corey Hart's "I Wear My Sunglasses At Night" He wears his sunglasses at night so automatically there's a conspiracy theory out on him. What's up with that?
Though I hate the song, "Land of Confusion" by Genesis and all the claymation going on there.
Though I can't think of what song it was for, the Alice in Wonderland take by Tom Petty was great.
So many to choose from...
Believe that was "Don't Come Around Here No More."
"Sledgehammer" Peter Gabriel
"Leave Me Alone" Michael Jackson
For the life of me I can't remember the song title, but there's a video for Depeche Mode were a king is walking around over these green hills and there's a throne on top of one of them.
Anyone know what this is?
andy
Can't say I know it.
How could I forget Michael Jackson?!
In that case, definately Black or White and Billie Jean.
Christ.
Me = old.

Enjoy the Silence I believe.
My favorite music video of all time was The Foo Fighter's "Everlong".
My favorite oldie video is probably Sledgehammer, that dancing chicken changed my life.

I wanted to second my vote for "I Wear My Sunglasses at Night." That video gets me every time.
There is hope, but not for us.
That Duran Duran video, where they are all strapped to a windmill.
"I've never caught a jewel thief before. It's very stimulating."
Frances Stevens, To Catch a Thief
"Jeff, you know if someone came in here, they wouldn't believe what they'd see? You and me with long faces plunged into despair because we find out a man didn't kill his wife. We're two of the most frightening ghouls I've ever known."
Lisa Fremont, "Rear Window"
Paranoid Android. I know it's not exactly old, but it's not exactly played much either.
Like a Prayer, by Madonna

Michael Jackson - Thriller.
Why is that even in question?
Yeah for sure!
Michael Jackson - Thriller
"Sledgehammer" Peter Gabriel
Marilyn Manson - Dope hat (Oompa Loompas eating whipped cream of girls)
Tool - Stinkfist
Definitely "Come On Eileen" and "Take On Me"....
But one that should have gotten more play was "Karma Police" by Radiohead.
Sidenote: A current video that should get more play- White Stripes "Seven Nation Army"
Side-Sidenote: "Thriller" is way overrated. Sure, it was one of the first videos that really incorporated visual effects and heavy makeup, but I think the world has heard enough about Thriller. It's fun to watch, and the song is pretty good, but it wasn't THAT incredible. And Vincent Price rocks.
Mother Superior: "Would sir care for a starter? Some garlic bread perhaps?"
Renton: "No, thank you. I'll proceed directly to the intravenous injection of hard drugs, please."

yeah, "Karma Police" is a definate.
I think the White Stripes video gets too much air time, it's on like every time I turn on MTV. I'd like to see Coldplay's "The Scientist" get played more actually (I've only seen it once) , but I don't watch MTV a whole lot so it could be on 800 times a day.
but anyways....
Any video by DEVO--- these were all like low-low-budget mini-movies.
"Radio Killed the Video Star"- The Buggles (A must!)
"Pepper"- Butthole Surfers; seeing people eat their laundry always sparks my interest.
strangely that is all that I can think of right now....
"Excuse me sir, Did you wash your hands after you took that big heaping dump. You know that sign, that sign says ALL employees MUST wash their hands after using the restroom, What part of that do you not understand?"- Malcom X
"Would you care to lick my sweaty baulz after they have been dipped in the finest venerial juices and sauteed in my own ass-sweat, madam?"- Winston Churchill
devo's "whip it". without a doubt.

Wow. This little thread got CRAZY. People telling me to abuse my girlfriend, people showing an alarming lack of respect for women as a whole, people questioning my masculinity in some kind of bizarre machoistic pissing-contest. Hell, I even got called stuffy.
Whip It! That rocks!
I think the White Stripes get too much airtime too. All I fucking hear is their music on the radio. Okay, they're catchy, and I know it doesn't matter how good the guy is at guitar(as long as it sounds good)but it's a load of bollocks when people say that he's a guitarist to look up to!
Agreed. I don't think the White Stripes guitarist should be looked up to. And they do get too much airtime on the radio, I just think their video should be played more, cuz I keep telling people how cool it is, but I'm still the only one in my group of friends who has seen it! It pisses me off....
Randome nostalgia: Botthole Surfers' "popular" That song was so the rage back in like 95.... weird

have you guys seen the video for "the safety dance" by men without hats? that's some crazy crap.also, i'm pretty partial to "wake me up before you go-go" by wham. that one yellow glove does it for me every time.

That wasn't Butthole Surfers you blasphemer, that was Nada Surf.
Never get so attached to a poem you forget truth that lacks lyricism.

Good Lord. How the hell did I get those two mixed up..... thanks man. It was the same era for me, I guess. No more drugs for me...haha

Smashing Pumpkins - Ava Adore. Very very strange video that still makes me wonder whether or not it was all one take.
I agree with the Ava Adore-ness. Of course, we have the Pumpkins DVD, so I can see whenever. And it helped me to stop wondering about what went on in the orgy in the background.

isn't the smashing pumpkins video with the orgy zero?
"There are problems in these times,
But, woo!, none of them are mine!"
I nearly forgot.
Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight Tonight. Fuck, that was awesome.
pat benetar videos. all of them. love is a battlefield. i still can't hear the song without yelling "IF YOU LEAVE THIS HOUSE..." after the first line.
what is the video where she is in WWII fighting the nazis??? that is probably her greatest video moment. any video where they are fighting nazis rules.
i also enjoy opposites attract by paula abdul.
november spawned a monster by morrissey. you may remember it from an episode of beavis and butthead where they are confused as to why he has a band-aid on his nipple which can be seen through his black mesh shirt.
but if we are talking about legit cool videos...losing my religion by r.e.m. is really good. and i dont know what category to put this in (legit or funny/bad) but im a sucka for november rain by g'n'r
just by radiohead is awesome.
so many good videos...so little organization/time.

no, it was ava adore. He walks all creepily through this building, and in the background in one of the shots there's this huge blurred out orgy scene. It's awesome.

I love Smashing Pumpkins, but Tonight Tonight the video scares me.The moon! GAH! Although, I love the song.
Dude, Tonight, Tonight rocks. It's Billy Corgan that scares me. Mostly the older videos. You know, when he had hair and stuff.

I loved Bullet Without Butterfly Wings, as a video. Although Billy Corgan is an incredibly big pretentious prat. Jimmy Chamberlain's very lovely though (not that I know him..)
How did Billy lose all his hair anyway?
He shaved it off, man if those videos count as old then I feel really old and I'm only 18.

ok....but i was just thinking of zero because the video is kind of like a roman orgy.
"There are problems in these times,
But, woo!, none of them are mine!"
i love ava adore...entire video in one take....

Oh, Sonic Youth's "100%" video with Jason Lee skateboarding. I loved anything with skateboarding, especially Beastie Boys "Pass the Mic" . Tom Petty's "Freefallin" with the spandex chick pumpin the hallpipe was a little bit too commercially though.

Speaking of Billy Idol-- White Wedding was cool.

Dancing with Myself - Billy Idol (just love watching those people fall over the side)
Ghostbusters - Ray Parker Jr.
Take on Me - A Ha
Money for Nothing - Dire Straits
Got My Mind Set on You (the one with the moving stuffed animal heads and such... maybe just because it reminds me of Evil Dead 2) - George Harrison
