Thanks. I work at it.
Whooaaaaa. Chris Cunningham DVD coming out October 28th!http://www.director-file.com/cunningham/510.html
Sweet. Chris Cunningham is a genius, plus he picks great musician's to do work for, not trendy cunts like Britney.
Angela - radiohead; exit music (for a film) was a close one for me too. they played that live in Denver recently!!! plus they played Paranoid Android.
---
lot of Radiohead and SP in here
I'm so not in the mood to tell loads of people my favourite things, it would be like that bit in Superman where he does an interview with Lois Lane and he tells her all of his weaknesses. However, I will give you my top five of bands I hate:
5. Big Brovaz- They just suck.
4. Spice Girls- Was I the only person who didn't like them?
3. Manic Street Preachers- See above.
2. Seal- I am afraid of his music. It makes me feel as though I'm going insane.
1. Smashing Pumkins- God I've hated them for so long, their music makes me uncomfortable as does their bald singer. But they split up right? Huzzah!
Hmmm....I'll give you my top bands but don't use it against me in the future:
5. China Drum- Whatever happened to them?
4. The Darkness- Who doesn't love them?
3. Longpigs- See China Drum.
2. Eminem- His songs are great.
1. RHCP- I love them and I don't care what anyone else says.
my contribution at this point is going to be petty, but here goes.
i really am dissapointed with every Radiohead release since The Bends. that, and Pablo Honey are their only really genuinely good records. i really feel they havent for a long time represented what people 'think' theyre sposed to be talking about. the last few records are really fluff. over-artistic, self serving rubbish.
the pyramid song- was the only recent glimmer of hope, but my, it was brief.
'radiohead worship is dead' - should go on a t-shirt.

i love that they are making these director dvds.. its a really great idea, and im very excited to see each one. they make me feel like less of a freak for making tapes of music videos i like.. it will be nice to have a compilation by someone else for once! i think its a very interesting and concept that will prove to be great times.. i cant wait to view each one.
spike jonze is also coming out quite soon.. i think it will also be out in october or something.
with a bit of luck, his life was ruined forever. always thinking that just behind some narrow door in all of his favorite bars, men in red woolen shirts are getting incredible kicks from things he'll never know.
Wesley, i agree with you completely, except i loved Ok Computer. Everything past that, to me, is too weird. Hail To THe Thief has one or two good songs, and There There on it i cant' listen to enough, but Kid A and Amnesiac or whatever were just so bizarre, and i've listened to them a thousand times cause all my friends love them but i just don't what's so great about them.
every other Radiohead fan in the world seems to love them all though. i don't get it.
-----
Vendetta, i'm only not saying anything cause you told us not to use the list against you. Otherwise, i would let you have it for putting Eminem above RHCP....
-no particular order, except Radiohead is usually tops, i typed the first things that came to my head-

The Strokes - Hard To Explain.
VIDEO:
Underworld - Dinosaur Adventure 3D
Radiohead - Paranoid Android
Dirty Vegas - Days Go By
Coldplay - The Scientist
Blur - Coffee and TV
Oh, izen, I didn't put Eminem over RHCP. He was at number two and they were at number one. It's a count-down.
Bands
1. Metallica
2. The Cure
3. Led Zeppelin
4. The Sex Pistols

"I did it because I'm a dirty dog"
Wes, you just have to learn to appreciate their newer stuff...I still don't care for Amnesiac other than Pyramid Song. Hail to the Thief isn't bad, it's just not a masterpiece. It's just that Kid A especially is more of an experience than a collection of songs. I never switch the track to a song I want to hear, it's always first song to last song. It's sort of comforting in its desperation, it's probably the only album I've ever been able to sleep to in my life.
You wouldn't think that kind of music to be as catchy as The Bends, but Idioteque and the National Anthem are catchy as hell in a strange way. But yeah, when I first heard it I thought it was total shit, and now I like it more than any of their other CD's, although OK Computer comes pretty close.
It's funny, I wouldn't say any songs off of Kid A rank in my top 5, maybe even top 10, favorite songs but it's without a doubt my favorite album of all time.
But yeah bands I hate right now...that was a good idea.
1. The End of the Universe
2. Hot Hot Heat
3. Saves the Day
4. Anti-Flag
5. Linkin Park
I doubt anyone knows much about End of the Universe...they might be somewhat local but God imagine Dillenger Escape Plan except the guitarists have no idea what they're doing and the singer just screams and screams and screams. I've seen them live opening for a far better band and they're just complete garbage. There wasn't one person into them at the whole show.
The moral: If you know of this band and like them or are even indifferent to them you deserve to be gassed along with the members of the band, because if you meet the criteria I've outlined there's no way you will ever benefit society in your entire life and it would benefit everyone if you were no longer part of it.
That is all.
Then again, I might be wrong.

I don't particuarlly like Hail to The Theif, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE OK Computer. I also love Kid A. And how is Kid A weird? And I hate There There.
I love OK Computer, it's by-far my favorite Radiohead album, but I have to (and hate to) admit that Creep, My Iron Lung and Fake Plastic Trees are still my favorite songs from them. I like There There, and I thoroughly enjoy all their albums, although it took me a while to get into the last three.
Creep sucks ass. Though, Fake Plastic Trees and My Iron Lung are nice.
Movie-recommendation here: Go see Lost In Translation. Best movie I've seen since Adaptation (wonder if that's just a coincidence....)

um..... yeah! i knew that!
alex, you are the fucking man, man.
first you name off some great and more obscure SP songs, especially Soma, and the other two are B-sides which not as many people have even heard of, and then you mention Lost In Translation. That movie keeps creeping into my brain. Pure genius from screenplay to direction to photography to acting, i gotta see it again soon!!!
Saw it again today. one of the all-time best date movies, for sure. highly recommend it for guys who're not quite sure how to go about whooing their girl into getting naked.
good point, a very good date movie. i brought a date, but it was my girlfriend of many years, so.... not like i needed a good movie to get her warmed up
but good none-the-less.
best date movie ever, if you want to get laid by a girl who is a little kinky: Quills. Or Dangerous Liasons if she's into the erotic romance stuff without the cheesiness.
Izen, I'll definitely let you know if my date response well to those.
Some songs I couldn't fit into my Top 5, but they should be up there somewhere: Hum's "I Hate It Too" (very Soma-like, for all you Pumpkins fans); Jebediah's "Animal"; The Roots "Seed 2.0"; The Counting Crows "Catapult"; Kenny Roger's "I Just Dropped In" & "The Gambler"; The Cranberries "Zombie"; The Cure "Wrong Number"; The Fugees' "Ready or Not"; The Rolling Stones' "Angie" & "Monkey Man"; The Used "Taste of Ink"; The Verve Pipe "Hero"; Three Dog Night "Summer in the City"; Tom Cochrane "Life is a Highway"; Tom Waits "Earth Died Screaming"; Tool's "Lateralus" & "Hooker with a Penis"; Tracy Chapman "Fast Cars"; Alan Jackson "Chatahootchie"; John Anderson's "Seminole Wind"; Chris LeDoux's "This Cowboy's Hat"; Cowboy Mouth "Jenny Says"; and Pedro The Lions' "Of Minor Prophets & Their Prostitute Wives"

downwardspiral_nin, i'm suprised but very happy to see somebody else putting Fiona Apple in their top five. i think too many people think that Criminal was the best song she ever had.
----
insomniac, A Sorta Fairytle is one of my favorite Tori songs, in case you care, but let me ask you: do you like the single version better, that doesn't cut into all that bit about Down Mexico Way or whatever? i like the single better, personally; that album, incidently, is my favorite Tori album ever.
i just bought tori amos from the choir girl hotel and i must say it is fantastic, i just love shes your cocaine and spark. this was the first tori amos album i have gotten though i really enjoy the songs cornflake girl and crucify. i have been meaning to buy more of her stuff but the music store i work at is going out of business so we cant order anymore so when i get to some other town i will have to pick some up

my fave fiona (she doesn't make it into my top five but she's prob. in my top ten) is actually "Never is a Promise".
i'm not sure i've ever actually distinguished the versions of the tori song...i've only heard the version on the video and album...uh...

You'll never see the courage I know
Its colors' richness won't appear within your view
I'll never glow - the way that you glow
Your presence dominates the judgements made on you
But as the scenery grows, I see in different lights
The shades and shadows undulate in my perception
My feelings swell and stretch; I see from greater heights
I understand what I am still too proud to mention - to you
You'll say you understand, but You don't understand
You'll say you'd never give up seeing eye to eye
But never is a promise, and you can't afford to lie
You'll never touch - these things that I hold
The skin of my emotions lies beneath my own
You'll never feel the heat of this soul
My fever burns me deeper than I've ever shown - to you
You'll say, Don't fear your dreams, it's easier than it seems
You'll say you'd never let me fall from hopes so high
But never is a promise and you can't afford to lie
You'll never live the life that I live
I'll never live the life that wakes me in the night
You'll never hear the message I give
You'll say it looks as though I might give up this fight
But as the scenery grows, I see in different lights
The shades and shadows undulate in my perception
My feelings swell and stretch, I see from greater heights
I realize what I am now too smart to mention - to you
You'll say you understand, you'll never understand
I'll say I'll never wake up knowing how or why
I don't know what to believe in, you don't know who I am
You'll say I need appeasing when I start to cry
But never is a promise and I'll never need a lie
