oh back on topic
I'm watching Biutiful right now which is kind of a disturbing...I really love it and glad we have the movie now.
oops.
I feel more like I do now than I did before.
Bardem is a great actor. So I don't know if this has been mentioned. I have a really high threshold for 'disturbing' and this jumped up and down on it like it was a trampoline:
As a piece of trivia: Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel are married in real life.
Pete mentioned this one, here is the trailer:
I liked the Ring too, but Audition is actually something that could happen. Although I love movies like Pan's Labyrinth or Black Swan, they reside in the gray area of our fear. Irreversible is devastating in it's reality. Audition could happen.

strangeland
and whoever said antichrist, dude, if you can watch that more than once, i think you deserve a medal.

“...There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one's head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people's pain. You ought to have some apprehension that the man you see before you was once even younger than you are now and arrived at his present wretchedness by imperceptible degrees.”
-James Baldwin
The only things to turn my stomach is the rapey bits of Man Bites Dog and the credits montage of Society.
A Good Man is Hard to Slime
All the kids I know are talking about "A Serbian Film". I've seen it, and once you get past the ketchup, it just seems like lip service for anybody who had the teen discussion of "what's the most fucked up shit you can put into a movie".
I hardly know what to call disturbing for my taste. But I do have a thing for the films where nobody "wins".

Word.
I feel more like I do now than I did before.

I just watched that today! I loved it too, it's a special movie.
It is. It's definitely one of my favorites. Which reminds me of Dirty Pretty Things with Audrey Tatou. It's also kinda disturbing in the same instances as Biutiful is. I definitely recommend it if you haven't seen it Imke.
Tatou is lovely.
I feel more like I do now than I did before.
yeah I really like her. There's maybe like one movie that I've seen where I didn't care much for her character.
The Da Vinci Code?
Did I mention Precious? Man that movie is painful to watch.
"I'm glad I live in the GPS era. In a different century, I would've set off to visit the other side of the village and wandered off into the mountains and been eaten by a carnivorous plant. Or discovered the Americas."

HA! I refuse to watch that. I can't stand the idea of Tom Hanks playing Robert Langdon.
That movie is crap, isn't it. Actually, it is pretty disturbing how shitty it is. Painful to watch shitty. I think I turned that one off. And Hanks agrees to do a second one? Perplexing.
Amelie is funny. Wrong thread for funny though.
So:
And in a similar vein but with 80's Penn and Walken:
And this little known jewel filmed in my backyard:
And an all-time classic:
I feel more like I do now than I did before.
Dead Girl. Its was a horrible movie but disturbed the hell outta me. This town bred some fucked up teenagers.
I agree!
It didn't.
I feel more like I do now than I did before.
The Deer Hunter is a good one. Love that movie.

I hate to say it but I find Audrey Tatou quite wooden on the whole. Yes, she's beautiful but is she a great actress? Not really.
I don't know about great, but she is really good. Of course Hanks is really good too, not great. He is also wooden, I mean Woody. In Toy Story. Woody.
I would agree Hattitude. She is lovely though.
I feel more like I do now than I did before.
If by wooden you mean one dimensional, I would also have to agree.

this one is so emotional. I watched 3 times ,and 3 times I cried

The Expendable 2010 is disappointing
Hope the second Expendable is different
Are you referring to Hanks or Tatou?
She is no Binoche. She is no Bellucci. But I will disagree with one-dimensional if you are referring to her. She is growing steadily as an actress.
Her best role yet:
Hanks has his Forrest Gump moments as well. But for me I always see Tom Hanks when I watch him. Tatou is similar in that regard. She never completely erases her 'self' in a role by becoming completely absorbed like, say Streep.
Hanks and Tatou together reading one of the most ligneous scripts of all time...

I loved her in Coco. Not so much one dimensional but she takes up a lot of very similar roles. She's typecast quite often. I love her though. Amelie, A Very Long Engagement, Dirty Pretty Things are among my favorites.
To me this means wooden. A good actress can become completely absorbed.
I don't think she's added anything to Hollywood except her pretty face.

I just think there are degrees of eptitude to consider. Hattie, you are right, she does come off as wood-toned occasionally. She reminds me of Penelope Cruz ability wise. And yes, she is pretty. I don't really consider Tatou Hollywood though. French Cinema with a few jaunts across the pond.

Ahh see now Penelope Cruz was always someone I didn't care to see on film but then I saw a few movies where she actually changed my mind. Volver is a good one that you've heard of but the role I really love her in is in a movie called...Don't Tempt Me. I also enjoyed her in Vicky Christina Barcelona as well.
Also Vanilla Sky is a disturbing movie for me because it sucks compared to the original Abre Los Ojos, IMO. I watched it yesterday to see if I would like it but Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz really kill it for me. Not to mention how douchey the director is naming it Vanilla Sky for the sake of naming it Vanilla Sky. It's a pretty cool story and disturbing in ways as well.
I can't stand Cameron Diaz.

I think at a certain stage studios start to hire Hanks to play Hanks, or Cruise for Cruise or Cage for Cage. People that already like Hanks won't be disappointed by his performance. His emoting in Castaway is still impressive to me, especially carrying the whole movie with that character.
Jim Carrey, who you would think being a one trick pony, is really effective in Truman Show especially with his acting. His other seriouser is great too, I love The Majestic and everyone loves Eternal Sunshine.
A Good Man is Hard to Slime
I concur that he's a good actor, I really enjoyed him in the Fun with Dick and Jane remake not too long ago. Did anyone see his piss-take of Black Swan?
please define "piss-take"

A joke, mockery.
the SNL sketch?
A Good Man is Hard to Slime
OMG that was hilarious!

I hope Jim Carrey will do some more dramatic work in the future.
Did someone mention pissteak?
I feel more like I do now than I did before.

The best Jim Carrey movie, in my humble opinion, is "I Love You Phillip Morris".
Now we are talking about real cinema.
I feel more like I do now than I did before.
I was not a fan of I Love You Philip Morris
