DAVID LYNCH
contrary to popular belief...i do like good movies. i see bad movies like the core, and a man apart...simply for fun
but, boy oh boy, do i love me some david lynch!
i have about 13 minutes before my surrealism film class starts. we watched blue velvet on monday and now we get to discuss. i cant wait for all the girls in my class to go off about how sexist and misogynist it is so i can smack them in the face and tell them to shut the fuck up.
granted, arguments could be made for sexism in any, if not all, of his films...
but he still is one of the most amazing american directors of our time.
hooray for david lynch!!! any other fans here?
Yes. Lost Highway was a fucking ride. What an amazing movie. I definitely enjoyed it more than Blue Velvet (aaaah! *ducks*)
im such a fucking moron, i watched lsot highway (or maybe it wasnt lost highway...hmm it was the one about people who like to get into car crashes and then fuck or osmething) with this super hot girl who was not only amazing for being hot, but was an awesome nice girl and we had a relationship of awesome friends. long story short she wanted to watch this movie with me and i didnt act on it and mke my move. but i was young and shrink dinked still, but still she was sooo hot and now shes moving in with some fucker who doesnt treat her right, im gonna get her back man
no worries, she wasnt hot like "uhhh im hot like duh" prissy hot, she was hot like the average girl hot who didnt care if she dressed really nice or not (at least aorund me, which made it so nice)
there wa sanothe rtime where she got me to rub sun bathing lotion all over her back, and she use to always sleep with me in bed. k i know im hijacking and shit, bu do you think i should actually go for her? up until now it was just an idea, i think i might just actually go for it now. sorry for hijacking small_fire, and thanks shelby for birnging that movie back into my head and making rememebr about this girl
yes, Lynch fan present.
ive seen Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, Eraserhead & Elephant Man.
and thats probably my order of what i like the most.
life's pretty straight without vidalia :You_Rock_
knoxville, no problem, but the movie you're talking about is Crash by David Cronenberg. Never seen it, but heard it sucks. And heard that the book by J.G. Ballard is so much better and so much more fucked up.
Crash is fucking awesome- and yeah, that is Cronenberg.-- I think he's great 'cos he takes on really difficult projects-- ie. Crash, Naked Lunch etc-- and does a fairly good job considering... James Spader, much like his role in Less Than Zero-- is a jaded fuck - so cold. love it. man, was Deborah Unger the hottest thing in the mid90s or what? its madness.

Blue vlevet was good. The Elephant Man was great. Never saw Lost Highway all the way through, same for The Straight Story. Mulholland Dr. was fan fucking tastic, I had a teacher last year who based half our film history class around it. Twin Peaks was cool but I never saw Fire Walk With Me. Haven't seen Dune and some would call me lucky for it.
Then there's fucking Eraserhead. I saw this at a midnight screening a few weeks ago. I think I almost pissed my pants. I was laughing the whole time just out of pure unease. I liked Mulholland Dr more but Eraserhead was really something. No wonder Stanley Kubrick loved it so much. The actual Eraserhead sequence was genius, I sort of wished he rearranged the movie so it ended on that but it's fine the way it is. It's the kind of film that somewhat defies verbal commentary, so, in a word, it's quandriflangulasticablab.
Yeah, sadly- when Twin Peaks happened- i watched it- but i was too young to 'get it' , im so glad its come/coming out on DVD now.

I think Mullholland Drive was horrible. Yes, I understood it. I just thought that the acting was completely horrible.
"But, he hardly used any money for the film... how could he get good actors?"
Ever heard of Requiem?
If God takes life, he's an indian giver.
Naomi Watts IS good though dude.

EHHHHH...
I disagree.
If God takes life, he's an indian giver.
The acting was purposely bad in many scenes. So you obviously didn't understand it.
OH YES... how genius of you to figure that out.
Let me rephrase this...
I thought that the acting in the entire movie wasn't performed well. I also thought that: It was being obscure for the sake of being obscure and to make you look around on the special features or internet to find what happened.
And, I thought that I'd throw in that I'm a big fan of Lost Highway.
If God takes life, he's an indian giver.
No. The reason the acting was stressed and overdone and awful was because of *spoilers ahead*
the whole dream part of the movie was supposed to play out as a Hollywood Film (as this is her dream; to become a successful actress. So she imagines everything like a film). David Lynch was, in essence, making fun of Hollywood and giving clues towards the truth at the same time.
*end spoilers*
And yes, Lost Highway was better, and was amazing. I can't wait for the special edition on DVD.
I also want to see Eraserhead. It looks amazing. Plus, it inspired Pi. Big time.
oh horse shit! wrong movie, dont rmemebr much about crash cept the whole sex thing. oh well still going for the girl!!!! ha ha gonna knock her boyfriend out man, is it safe to say that i should pull a lil Tyler Durden laugh (like The Lou scene) when the guy beats the crap out of me (hey he's like 20, maybe 21. im not expecting to win)
How old are you? Or she? just curious.
Did my post get deleted or something? Oh well. I'll post again since I either made a mistake or I'm stubborn or just both.
Point made simple. Mulholland Dr. is all a recording. That's the point of the movie. Therein lies its genius. Not because no one has ever done it before but because it hasn't been done this well. Even though alot of people argue this over Un Chien Andalou. But that's a whole other thing.
Also, they've both inspired Pixies songs.
hey shelby, sorry havnt checked this post out for a while. im 17, yes its out!! 17, the girls. i htink shes about 19, maybe turning 20 soon
What do you mean it's a recording. Elaborate.
The club silencio scene explains the whole movie. We see people, we hear them talk, but they aren't really there. It's David Lynch explaining that he's in control of the recording and can go wherever he wants with it and you can't change it no matter how much you analyze it. In a way he's making fun of us like he did with Blue Velvet. He's like Hitchcock, you get to see a great film and he gets to laugh at you for it.
I guess I will throw in my two cents here:
I either like Lynch but he isn't my favorite weirdo director
Eraserhead was fucking briliant and creepy as hell but it some how transforms 80minutes into 5 hours when watching it...
I really liked The Elephant Man, Lost Highway, Blue Velvet, and Wild at Heart----I also have his short "The Cowboy & The Frenchman" with Harry Dean Stanton lying around somewhere but I never saw it...
I couldn't stand DUNE
I have yet to see Mulholland Drive and I don't know if I should I keep hearing from people it just goes on and on and on. I know I should actually see it first before I start generalizing based on other oppinions but I just really don't know if I should spend 2.5 hours watching it or not, maybe once it goes into the "old release" section at all the video stores around here I will pick it up.
"Excuse me sir, Did you wash your hands after you took that big heaping dump. You know that sign, that sign says ALL employees MUST wash their hands after using the restroom, What part of that do you not understand?"- Malcom X
"Would you care to lick my sweaty baulz after they have been dipped in the finest venerial juices and sauteed in my own ass-sweat, madam?"- Winston Churchill
Is Lynch the guy who did two days in the valley?
nope.
damn. elaborate, prey tell.
imdb.com tells me that don herzfeld did that movie. not david lynch.
