Dark Knight Rises
Saw it in IMAX yesterday... blown away. So much to take in, especially on a screen that large.
I had sorta figured out the twist before it happened, but it was still a very enjoyable and spectacular film. Even got choked up a little... dammit Alfred! We already got tickets to see it again on Thursday.. maybe I will see Tuffy this time.
SPOILER
******Spoiler*************************
My dad thinks it was just a fantasy. Not real. I'm not sure though. I mean he's Batman, for crying out loud.
I dunno, pretty sure it's supposed to be legit. There was the bit with Lucius and the Bat 'software patch', after all.
Can you explain what you mean about the Huntress thing, though? I vaguely remember her from Birds of Prey, but I didn't read that too much. How does she figure into this storyline/ending?
She doesn't specifically. I'm just presuming Bruce and Selena stay together. If they do, then according to the comics, they will have a baby girl named Helena.
As for Huntress herself, I know next to nothing about her aside from that she exists in an alternate timeline where Batman and Catwoman shacked up.
To Wikipedia!
Wow that was all sorts of bad. I think Christopher Nolan was under pressure from the studio to churn this out. There was nothing good about it, save for the shot of the mob telling the police to disburse. This was the shitty sequel everyone was expecting when the D Knight came out.
"They sold you hippies grunge, hip hop, now liberty activism."
I thought Bane was pretty rude for talking with that shit on his face. I couldn't understand him very well.
It's better than a lot of people give it credit for.
I think I want to have this conversation, because the more I think about the film, the more bad I realize it was.
What was motivating the characters? Why did we see the scenes that we did? Why did they interact with each other the way they did?
Everything that was right about the Dark Knight was wrong in this film. Every plot turn was so convenient. The dialogue was so explanitory. There was an actual line where a guy introduced himself as a CIA agent. Why was there a 'president' in the film and why did we watch a speech from him? Why did Bruce not give a shit about Catwoman stealing his mother's jewels? Why did Bruce not give a shit about his fingerprints and identity being stolen by Catwoman? Why did Catwoman...at all? Why did Marion Cotillard wanna nuke Gotham? (That her dad once wanted to is no excuse). Why did Bane do what he did (He loves Marion Cotillard? Seriously?) WTF happened to Bane? How did Morgan Freeman get out of the floodwaters? Why did any of the gangsters work for Bane if he's such a tyrant? Why was no gunfire ever directed at Bane? How does he punch through a cement pillar multiple times, but punching Batman is just 'ow'? How does Batman survive falling down a pit with a rope around his ribcage? How does he fix a broken back in under five months? And where were the people of Gotham? Everyone was either a cop or a criminal.
I guess I could go on, but whatever. This was the Darknightfather Part III.

Oh man, now I'm getting even more excited! I'm gonna see it on Friday when it opens. Sometimes I think it's better that I've never read the comics, I can't be too disappointed.

IT'S A FUCKING MOVIE!!! Not to mention a movie based on a comic, which is based on over-exaggerations.
Don't you have a hippie flippin' rally to film or something?
It's just a movie, Jaz. Jeez.
I deconstruct everything through the lens of my own narrow worldview also!
This is why we can't have nice things.

Haha yeah pretty much. "Hi, guys, I'm CIA. Ya ready ta do some torturin'? Oh whoa whoa who are these fellas with blankets over their heads? Alright, put them on the plane too. Nah, I don't care what they look like."
Right before they start firing live rounds blindly out of the plane down to the earth. LOL WTF. And Bane's guys: Plane jumping, cyborg, badass experts one minute...Sewer rat nimrods who couldn't kill a wounded old man the next minute...
The same way he survives a nuclear blast over the sea with a broken back and no cartilage in his legs. By actually being a Superman movie the whole time. A Superman movie in a dream because that Inception bitch got him again! Because...
Because remember she wanted Batman, her lover, to be stuck in Limbo with her forever, which is what happens if he doesn't get the atom bomb out of Gotham in time.
I think that was the Juno girl stealing his totem.
That was the "kick" to get him out of the next level in the dream.
Batman's guilty conscience has evolved into a big terror monster hell bent on helping his dead wife carry out her evil deeds, to make up for infecting her mind and killing her. The Pit was a deeper stage of Limbo which has mutated Batman's sub-conscience into the beast that is Bane. Which explains...
Militantly trained sub-conscience. Impenetrable by simple bullets. Only Juno Girl could blast it away with new love. Hence, the Clean Slate program. A conscience cleaner.
Now I want to go see it again and imagine it's all the Inception guy's dream.
When the Assistant Director informed us that we were in a dream sequence, I have to admit, I was a little shocked.

Why can't you come up with these answers yourself like Nolan expected you to?
You know I'm a huge critic of the realism in movies, but dude, these are really non-issues. No, I don't mean they're problems you shouldn't notice, I mean they're not problems, and the answers should really just come to you. You're asking the wrong questions. The REAL problems with the movie were 1. How the FUCK did Alfred just find out all about Bane off camera? He knew he was in an ultra secret prison and was kicked out of an ultra secret society. WTF? 2. Why the FUCK was that twist at the end necessary? It just took spotlight away from Bane's awesome character and put it on a poor actress's horrible death scene. 3. How the fuck was his spinal cord not damaged with that vertebrae realignment?
Everything else was pretty amazing. Bane's character and motivation totally stole the show.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
Agreed, except that bit about Marion. Don't you touch Marion.
There was a lot going on at the beginning of the movie--it seemed to jump around just to introduce characters and plot twists. But, after the Joker was arrested, I thought the same thing at the end of The Dark Knight.
I think the villains (Henri Ducard, Joker, and Bane) stole the show in all three movies.
I think I want to have this conversation, because the more I think about the film, the more bad I realize it was.

I feel like you didn't actually pay attention to the movie. I really don't feel like going through them all one by one, but almost every one of those things was either explicitly explained in this movie or throughout the trilogy.

Okay, so I know Morgan Freeman got out of the floodwaters, but its the fact that he was down there when it bursts, narrowly escapes (though you don't really see him escape, you just see him somewhere else later). That was totally unnecessary. That scene could have not been in the movie and it wouldn't have changed anything. Same with a bunch of scenes...and characters...and a good portion of the film.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it. It's hard not to enjoy a film after a bowl, a joint, and two PBRs. But it was still trash compared to the D Knight. It's just an action film with undeveloped political overtones, rushed to completion in the style of the previous two Nolan Batman films.

I think the villains (Henri Ducard, Joker, and Bane) stole the show in all three movies.
This is why I love Batman, it is all about the villains and how they compliment the duality of Batman/Bruce Wayne. Oh, and the car.
My favourite Batman villain will always be Poison Ivy.
It was kind of an anti-climax that Bane seemingly died after getting hit with one of the from the missiles from the Batpod. But I suppose we could just as easily assume he's not actually dead, too.
Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy or Poison Ivy Poison Ivy?
Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy, obiesly.
I can say only one superhero who is hit i.e Spiderman. Amazing movie backed in action and thrill to enjoy the movie.
Once more in English, spambot.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I still didn't see Tuffy.
Goddamnit.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I did. He was in the front crying with his long hair....okay maybe I didn't see him.
Maybe you did.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I think I might have but I won't know for sure until I am able to pause the movie on our big screen.
Holy mother of God, this was excellent!
I was an extra before it was cool.

Not in a Batman movie, you weren't.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I think I need to see it on a regular sized movie screen, or a tv screen to be able to see tuffy. imax is too overwhelming. too many places to look at once!
If Tuffy was wearing a hat, I may have spotted him, but only briefly. There aren't too many close shots with the audience though, and IMAX is indeed overwhelming. Favourite scene: when that player with the ball finally looks behind him and sees what's left.
Hah. That's Hines Ward! The Gotham team was actually played by the Pittsburgh Steelers in their practice jerseys.
I saw this movie with my dad. Who ONLY saw it because a lot of it was shot in Pittsburgh. In fact in A SINGLE scene my dad would lean over and tell me this shot is NewYork. This shot is Pittsburgh. Oop, New York again.
I know that's the Steelers, and I know that's Pittsburgh. I also seemed to have anticipated correctly the football scene. Fun fact, Nolan considered Romania for a few scenes, too, most likely the opening, and I'm not sure if that isn't in fact our mountains, because we have very similar landscapes.
That being said, I don't know what city Gotham is. Chicago?
Oh, apparently, the Romanian location was a saline that should have been the Batcave, but the contract didn't come through.
Gotham is a fictional city. It was shot in New York, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and (one other place I can't remember).
What I meant to say before was that in most of the scenes that took place in Gotham, one shot in the scene will be one city, another shot will be another. The scene underneath the bridge where people are exiled, was shot underneath the Allegheny Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge (two different locations, two different cities, acting as one for the movie).
Interesting, thanks. Probably if I'd known my American bridges better, I'd have noticed it.
Pretty sure the mountain range/plane crash scene was shot in Scotland, but I might be wrong.
I was wearing a hat!
This is why we can't have nice things.
Most likely, since the filming locations section on IDMb only mentions that saline in Romania. Our mountains still look similar, though.

PS. As I was looking for pictures of the Carpathians, stupid Google simply HAD TO show a few pictures of brown bears. FUUUU
This!
I love Bane a whole lot.
Does anyone know how Bane eats? I mean he has to have a fucking huge amount of calorie intake to be that jacked.
Also, Bane was in The Lion King.

I want to know where his painkillers or whatever are coming from. In the comics, he has pipes or tanks or something on his back, in this, the mask is self contained, no wires or anything. Does it manufacture it's own gas/painkillers?!?!

Saw it last night on the far left side of a shitty theater, probably will see it again in IMAX later on this week. Highly enjoyable, I'd gladly sit through several shootings just to watch it.
