Dirty Old Town.
i fucking love the Pogues and especially Dirty Old Town. there's this old pub where i live called the Cambridge Hotel. it used to be a great great pub. cool bands. great jukebox. very rock n roll and all that. anyway, after the bands played the sound engineer would play tunes out in the back room (the glasshouse. it was called that 'cause it's surrounded by, yep, glass)) til close.
the sound engineer was a friend of ours, so we'd party til early morning, illegally, past closing time, smok inside and vomitting in bins. our ritual was to play Dirty Old Town last, every night. we'd all sing and dance. thems was good times. the pub went down hill from there. it went from trendy to clubby, 'cause my town went through this faux-rock n roll phase. i don't even go there anymore.

Alecia, I did this anyway. Not as good as Mike's, but my son heard it for the first time when we played Mike's version and he loved it, so he wanted me to sing it. I went ahead and recorded it. It is flawed.
Anyway, I think if people like a song, multiple people should cover it. It's a neat way to hear everyone's unique style.

Well, once I started, I figured out my guitar was tuned a bit too low. Oh well. And my computer messed up at one point, so I messed up in a place or two... but I've decided to not try and do 50 takes of a song. So, here you go.

Dude, that's good stuff. You know, if you work on the recording, like, get rid of the background humming and make the backing vocals lower or just take them out altogether, I'll happily make it available for download on the PATH website, and maybe more.
Here are my suggested changes, production-wise:
1. Make it ONLY acoustic, with no effects at all.
2. Make the backing vocals almost inaudible, but still there.
3. Make the overall sound a bit lower, so that we don't get that crackling noise when you hit a high note.
I just had an awesome idea. If I could get a bunch of Culties to do covers of PATH songs, then I would make them available for sale on eMusic and iTunes as an album.

I didn't do a full version because it's kind of a long song (but a great choice) and I don't have a print-out of all the chords/lyrics. So I did the verses that fit on my computer screen. Didn't want yours to go ignored!
Also, I've been trying to get the rhythm down on this song but it's pissing me off!!! The chords are easy, I'm sure the rhythm probably is, too, but I've never been able to get the quick strokes down. (*in before that's what she said)
