Cover OR Original?
Ha, right after I posted that Elliott SMith's Tomorrow, Tomorrow came on.
He's haunting me from the other side via internet radio!

The most depressing haunting of all!
Another Bluegrass invasion!
Original: "Float on" by Modest Mouse
Cover: "Float On" by Iron Horse
You know, i really wanted to like that Iron Horse album, but i was mostly disappointed by it. And despite the problems with Good News for People who Love Bad News, some of them songs are produced and arranged about as flawlessly as they can be. Float on, especially.
That is a good cover, though.
Outkast's Hey Ya
or Obidiah Parker's cover?
I'm going with the O-Dog.

I love bluegrass, and that cover sounds pretty awesome, but Modest Mouse takes the cake here.
How about some Cure
versus 311
311 brings a nice beachy feel to it, but it still sounds pretty similar, so I'd go with the Cure.

Here's one I just discovered through the book I'm reading.
Original
Cover
Willa Mae Thorton sounds fantastic! (My son seems to agree, as he clapped and hoorayed for her.) Apparently it was normal to just pirate music from black people.

VS.
As much as it pains me to say so, I'm going with the Willie and Merle version on this. Their two voices just beat out his one.
In regards to Sympathy for the Devil, this is my favorite version:
I know it's sacrilege to say so, but I'd take the GnR version of this over the Rolling Stones every time. It's the perfect example of taking a great song and reinvigorating it. Especially those last couple minutes where everyone is just jamming. It's the closest I've ever come to loving Jazz.
If I could only listen to one song for the rest of my life, this would get serious consideration.
I feel like people are going to kill me now, but okay:
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Power of Love
Antimatter - Power of Love
Easy, Antimatter.
only found out the other day that this was a cover, i don't particularly like either version all that much, but i suppose i'd go with the original, if i had to choose.
that's the original, and this is the more recent cover:
Oh one of my favorite things... covers. I know a many good covers.
First a little Rush vs. Deadsy
Next we have Deadsy on my top list again with a little song called "Paint it Black.
Next is Dope rocking out an 80's song like no other.
Dead or Alive
Vs. Dope
I have a whole playlist of hundreds of covers. A lot of them are pretty obscure too.
