Cabin Fever
Has anyone checked this movie out yet? I'm going Thursday and I saw a clip on the website and it made my skin crawl (no pun intended). It looks like it may be the first movie in a while to give me the willies
worst. movie. of. the. year.
this movie is SO FUCKING BAD. and not even bad in a good way. just plain bad. i just came from the theater and am really pissed off, so i can't really get into it right now...just know that it is bad, and to stay away from it at all costs. i'll elaborate later. maybe.
I thought it was pretty funny.
I heard that it's like a regular horror movie except the characters are realistic... as int hey do what you would actually do int heir situation.
my favorite review said that they had the same sense of morals that the characters on Seinfeld did
SPOILER
I like how not a single person actually died from the disease.
if by "realistic characters" you mean "fucking retarded characters" then yes, that review would be accurate.
HUGE RANT WITH SPOILERS, YOU'D BE SMART JUST TO SKIP IT ENTIRELY.
my main problem with the film (well, among many) is that i truly believe that the director/writer wanted to make fun of the type of kids he portrayed in the film. you've got the classic frat boy who wears the "f u" hat and wants to kill squirrels b/c they are "gay" (which was another of my problems. the films blatant homophobic and racist remarks)...there's the slut, the rich boy, the stupid girl and the naive boy. it's basically the cast of american pie, and i truly got the sense that he was completely ripping on these types of kids at the beginning, but as the film goes on, he loses all sense of that concept, and it is EXACTLY that type of viewer that identifies with those characters on screen and in the end enjoys the film.
the film was basically american pie with some gore. if that's your thing...fine. but it does not deserve all the good reviews it is getting. the only reason this film is getting any hype whatsoever is because it is an indie horror flick. too bad simply the title of "independent" does not mean that the film is good, contrary to popular belief, especailly in the horror genre.
oh yeah, and all the random bits of nothing that the director threw in just to be random was completely nonsensical. i am thinking in particular of the "pancakes" bit. what really pisses me off is that it is stuff like this that is getting this film compared to david lynch. there are many moments in the film where it seems like roth whimsically decided to put in something that had no point or reason to be there, solely for the sake of being random. there is not a moment in any lynch film like this. everything is there for a reason, and that reason can usually be derived from other moments in the film, whereas cabin fever is nothing more than filmic masturbation. "let's throw this is and everyone will be confused" is the sense you get from watching the film, there is no desire to look elsewhere for meaning, and even if you did, chances are you would find none.
man, i have to stop. i'm sorry. i hate this movie.
It's odd that you mention Lynch because Eli Roth is his protegee, and he got Baldamenti to do the score
I certainly didn't find it deep or meaningful, and took the 'random' bits as just pointless fluff. Connecting with the characters? Yeah right. Like I said, I thought it was funny, that's about it. I mean hell, the ending pretty much screams "THIS MOVIE WAS A JOKE".
So yeah.. I thought it was a decent joke. Maybe it was just cos the girls I went with were flipping out, and that made me laugh even harder.. Cos I'm already laughing, and they're actually scared by it... Man... Good times.
he is not lynch's protege at all. he has produced some shorts for lynch's website. and he's even said that no one liked his shitty script until he slapped david lynch's name on it. after they listed lynch as an "executive producer" people actually started giving him the time of day. how fucking sad. afterwards they took his name off as producer and just listed him as a "very special thanks" in the credits. all sorts of articles are listing him as lynch's protege, but it just isn't true. he did some research for him, and worked on his site, but as far as i can tell, he's never done any special training or work directly under lynch himself.
and as far as angelo goes, since he's buddies w/ lynch, i'm sure it wasnt that hard to get him, but its not like angelo ONLY does scores for lynch films either. just because they always work together doesn't mean that they exclusively work together. he's done the scores for many other films, such as city of lost children and national lampoons christmas vacation.
eli roth is not lynch's protege. goddamn it.

I don't know if you saw it like this...but comparing it to Wrong Turn...they have stupid characters, but in this movie they're making fun of them. I saw it as all the characters of a typical teen movie or Real World season, but exaggerated to make it ridiculous and funny. Unlike Wrong Turn, they didn't take the characters seriously.
I thought the movie was okay, it exceeded my very low expectations (After seeing Jeepers Creepers 2 and Wrong Turn). At least they weren't afraid to use blood.

I never thought it did. Other than toward the end when their characters kind of fade because more attention is on what's happening in the movie.
And then maybe my thoughts are partially biased by the experience at the theater itself....for once in a very long time, it was packed with people my age that didn't make a damn sound the whole movie.
When I saw it, I saw a sneek preview and one of the promoters was the local rap/hip hop station. and when the old man used the N word in the beginning, the audience booed quite loudly. Other than that though it was a quiet audience as well and people in their 20s and 30s. There was the occasional cough in the first five minutes but once they learned that the joke wasn't that funny they stopped
Oh god, the nigger part was the best part of the whole movie. Mostly cos the theatre I saw it at was the local darkie theatre, and GOD DAMN were they PISSED.
Hahaha. Dumb niggers.
What do you think about the end though when the threesome came by to pick up the gun? do you think that made the beginning comment better or do you think it ruined it a bit?
It kinda ruined it. But I guess it was funny, but not really... I mean, it's just like "ohhhhhh.. hyuk hyuk hyuk"...
at first I thought "Damn, those are some true backwater folks that still wave the confederate flag". But then at the end I thought "Cop out" It still was humourous though, but also to me a cop-out
Hahaha. Dumb niggers. - DISX
Man you really crack me up sometimes. And im being serious. Im seeing this movie tonight so hopefully i will enjoy it. I enjoy most horror flicks even if they are really really bad, i.e. Fright Night 2.
You know im going to lose
Gamblings for fools
But thats the way i like it
I dont want to live forever
I saw it last night and i really enjoyed the movie. I thought it was well made and i laughed throughout the film. The hick kid in front of the store was hilarious. I laughed everytime he came on screen. I loved the amount of gore. I really liked the characters, even though everyone says they are lame and diriveted (sp?). You know what just sit back and enjoy the film, dont sit there and pick apart every little detail. I liked it a lot.

Splanch i am going to watch that movie tonight. I have been hearing really good things about that flick. I cant wait to see it. It had better be fucking scary or at least show some naked asian chicks. I love naked asian chicks.

Learn english, shitdick.
Okay, I'm pretty new to the Cult and don't exactly know people. disx, maybe you just have a bad sense of humor, but making racist comments really isn't funny. It's actually kind of ridiculous, epsecially considering that you have a fucking Operation Ivy banner in your signature. Do you ever know what those checkers are supposed to mean?
Anyway, to the topic at hand...this movie was terrible. It wasn't funny. It wasn't scary. And the only good gore part was when the girl's jaw was practically falling off.
this movie was friggin horrible. such a huge disappointment

Oh my god.
Laughs > life. Learn this.
Aw, did they go and make a joke out of your genre?
no it was fucking idiotic. i was looking forward to the whole idea of them being trapped in the lil cabin and trying to defen themselves from each other etc etc...but instead we get martial arts and fucking pancakes. than there were the fake hill billies trying to kill the one guy, which was understandable but still just fucking laughable. and finally, the most stupidest thing (its a close tie with pancakes though) is the end dialogue "i made it, i made it! i made it!" how fucking forced was that?
complete utter crap
than again maybe they were trying to make crap, i went in expecting a good horror movie. should i have been expecting something else?
IT WSS JUOKE MOVIE.
LEARN LAUGH.
Thanks.

Saw it and loved it. Very graphic with the gore
