Bmw Films
Have you guys seen the short films from Bmw Films?
I'm not sure if you guys like action, but i'm an action junkie. The story doesn't have to be good, the acting can be piss-poor, but if the action is good, i'm loving every moment.
In the short films, The Hire, the stories are good [a bonus], the action is tremendous, and Clive Owen playing "The Driver" is awesome. And directors like John Woo making short films are amazing.
If you haven't already, check them out.
i'll bet they at least get a free beamer for producing a short. Didn't Guy Ritchie do one?
strapped down and made to see
I just found something out.
David Fincher Executive Producer
David Fincher entered the film industry at age 18. Within a year, he was working at Industrial Light and Magic. In 1983, he moved on to directing TV commercials and music videos. In 1987, he founded Propaganda with three other directors and has since become a successful movie director. Fincher creates films that grab the imagination and hold it captive until the final frame. An early believer in the potential of short digital films, he was instrumental in working with BMW to create The Hire Film Series. As Executive Producer, he contributed to the success of each film from the concept stage to the writing to the selection of directors.

Yeah, he did. He directed Star.
Here's the plot synopsis:
The driver faces perhaps his most perplexing challenge: Coming face-to-face with a hugely talented and successful rock star. But beneath her beauty lies a problem she always gets what she wants. Guy Ritchie directs Clive Owen and a surprise guest star in a battle of power against power.

This is my 100th Post!
Yay.
Yeah, Mario, I am loving the Hire series, I have the first set on DVD (except for the Wong Kar-Wai short, which I really liked--by the way, has anyone seen his Fallen Angels, good film that). Pan, Guy Ritchie did one with Madonna, a pretty funny one. Also it had ones by Frankenheimer, Ang Lee, and Alejandro Gonzalez-Innaritu (sp?--too lazy to look it up right now), who made Amores Perros.
The new series wasn't produced by Fincher, like the previous was, but rather by the Scotts (Ridley and Tony) which was fine, too. The films were done by Woo (which Mario mentioned), Tony Scott (gotta love him for True Romance), and Joe Carnahan. Haven't seen all of these last two, but I am looking forward to getting them on DVD too.
I know they are promo clips and all, just glorified ads, but they're pretty damn cool and entertaining.
By the way, Mario, speaking of being an action junkie, did you catch The Transporter? I really enjoyed it, there were some very cool action scenes, and it rather reminded me of a full-length Hire, though without as impressive of a cast and directors.

Yeah, I caught The Transporter. Great action movie. What do you mean without the impressive cast? Jason Statham was the lead guy, and I enjoyed his role. The rest of the cast sucked, but he was great.
The beginning stunt scene with him picking up these immature, naive, bank robbers and scaring the shit out of them in the car chase was just awesome. I love his accent.
He was great in Snatch, also.
One more thing,
The Transporter also reminded me of the Grand Theft Auto series.
Great Game.
Has anyone managed to follow the whole conspiracy theme running throughout the short films and subplots in between films? I discovered them a little while ago and started to actually investigate, but damn classes kept me from diving head first into the mystery. There's a web address given in subplot (I forget which one) that's full of documents you'd expect to see in an area 51 report, key words blacked out and various codes. I realize it's all just a really expensive commercial, but my curiosity is peaked nonetheless.

No, no, without as impressive a cast. I agree, Jason Statham was great, he is seriously cool and tough.
However, here are some of the more notable cast names from the Hire series, everything from serious actors to famous and odd personalities: Don Cheadle, F. Murray Abraham, Gary Oldman, Marilyn Manson, Stellan Skarsgard, Madonna, Forest Whitaker, Mickey freakin' Rourke (hehe)!
The beginning of The Transporter was especially cool, you're right. And I liked Snatch, too. IMDB says Statham is next going to be in The Italian Job remake, with Edward Norton, Mark Wahlberg, and others. Hopefully he'll get a chance to stretch his legs a bit, into funky bunch boy's face (just kidding Mark, you know we all love you and your huge prosthetic penis!)
Rents,
I started trying to follow the clues, but as you said, other things (classes) kind of take precedence over it. Maybe on a summer day when I am bored and stuck in a room with all my DVDs I'll break them out and try it.

Gotta love GTA. Finally got a PS2 recently, and bought Vice City first thing. How cool are the tank, golf cart, motor bikes, and the flying cars, citizens attacking you, and all that. There's even one to arm citizens, and another to have the police rise from the dead, though I've not used them yet (classes keeping me from that, too). Which reminds me, I should be working on them today, too.
Oops, I guess I misunderstood you a little bit.
I loved the films Hostage, and Ticker. If you haven't seen Ticker, you should. I highly recommend it.
And what's this thing about the Area 51 documents?

In the menu of each film of season one, there's the option of viewing the film and, right next to it, viewing the subplot. In one of the subplots, a web address is given to somebody. If you can catch it, plug it into your internet explorer and you'll end up at a site with all sorts of weird government-doesn't-want-you-to-see-these type documents. If I ever have the time and patience, I'd love to follow this little conspiracy and see where it leads. I'm sure there are other things throughout the other subplots as well, but I never got around to checking them all out.
yeah i've been a huge fan of BMW films since they've come out. i think Clive Owen is a great actor, and doesn't get enough lead roles in American cinema.
also, the one Guy Gitchie directed which stars his wife madonna, is freaking hilarious (star).
however, ticker is the best one in my opinion... it has another one of my favorite actors in it too, in Don Cheadle. Clint Mansel also did the music composition on ticker, which kicks ass.
on a side note... everysince i started watching these i started to make my own short films, bought a mini-dv camera and such. it's fun but i am far from good, at one point i may actually let other people see them lol.
Where did you get the first season on DVD? I only just put in my request for receiving the new set on DVD this spring.
Where do you request it?

Here the site of government stuff he was talking about:
http://www.cbmlt.com/home.html
If it asks you for a password, just press OK with nothing in the box.
whats most bizarre on that site would have to be this link, as well as this one.
and what troubles me the most is that the connection on that second link is encryted, as in: SSL 3.0, RC4 with 128 bit encryption (High); RSA with 1024 bit exchange

On the films site where you d/l them from.
The first one I requested last year, or maybe even end of 2001, it took months to get here (but I got two when it did, as I called back once or twice--before anyone asks for the extra one, sorry, already gave it to a friend who is also a fan). Don't remember the number, but as twosmokingbarre said, you should be able to request it on the site somewhere, or find the 800 number.
What is the site?

Action films are good for a bit of fantasy, suspension of disbelief, that sorta thing. And Alan Rickman in Die Hard was one of the best bad guys ever "*lists off strange terrorist groups from all over the world*" *guy across table mouths "who?" to one of them* "I heard about them in Time magazine"
Classic.
