i need to see the wrestler so i can read this thread.

I'm with you, Isaac. I don't see how they're the same flick at all, other than a few of the filming techniques, which should be expected, really, because Aronofsky as a certain style and that's bound to show up from film to film.
This movie was brilliant. It was shot beautifully. Portman was outstanding. She completely gave herself away to that mental case of a character.
I kind of picked from the beginning that (SPOILER--DON'T CONTINUE!) it was going to be about her fighting against herself, her own mind. I don't know if I just look for that now in pyschological movies, what, with Fight Club, Memento, Machinist etc., or whether it was obvious because she was so tightly wound and she needed to let go to become the Black Swan. I thought it was a nice touch how she was always wearing whites and light colours in the beginning and Kunis' character was always in blacks and grey and showing off those lovely black wings tattooed on her back. But when she started transforming, we started to see darker colours in her wardrobe. It's the little things.
I got to watch it again to make sure, but did anyone else notice after the dance at the end, where it cuts to the back of the crowd and you see her normal standing there, that her shadow is still in full bird mode?
yup, I saw that.

I bet seeing this with someone who really does do ballet dancing is a pain in the ass.

Probably be more nit-picky than the french teacher dude.
I'm sure they would nitpick, but really, the fact that they put as much work into looking like real dancers as they did is pretty amazing. I always admire actors/directors for doing months and months of rigorous training for roles.

I knew it, too, but just from the trailer with the wing coming out of nowhere... plus, it's Aronofsky. It's GOTTA be a trip.
Damn right Portman got into her fucked up character! She even got knocked up and engaged to her real ballet instructor. Take THAT Daniel Day-Lewis! You and your method acting just got one-upped!

You can't spell manslaughter without laughter.
yeah, I had the same felling that wrestler and black swan are very similar in some ideas and execution. however I don't see that as a bad thing. You might say they tackle similar problem of passion towards what one's doing.

I definitely agree with Issac, the Wrestler and Black Swan seem almost black and white to me as far as storyline goes.
Nina deals with breaking out of her pristine nature to excel in her career where Randy is dealing with being alone and washed up. Basically what Lib said.
I loved the Black Swan, the Wrestler was good but it was harder for me to watch.

I done double-posted.
