Best drug flick?
Drug movies are always interesting to me-- mostly because of how they portray an altered state of consciousness. My personal favourite would have to be Trainspotting, but I was wondering if there are others I am missing.... any opinions?
Mother Superior: "Would sir care for a starter? Some garlic bread perhaps?"
Renton: "No, thank you. I'll proceed directly to the intravenous injection of hard drugs, please."

Drugstore Cowboy.
Requiem for a Dream for a "serious" drug movie.
Half Baked for the "comedy" drug movie.
SCARFACE is the best drug flick because it shows you both sides of the story, plus its got Al Pacino in it and because its a Brian DePalma film
Salton Sea
Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas
Blow? - for humour
Naked Lunch
and naturally Trainspotting... what about Acid House?
and you really gotta get into old 30s Dope films, ive got three!
i love them so!
spread the paranoia.

What's Human Traffic like guys?
oh yeah, thats good for a laugh.
lots of Cardiff geezers eating biccies. good stuff.

It's set in Wales? There's life in Wales?
believe it or not, yes.
well, its a whole pack of london geezers in it, John Simm, etc. but yknow its cool. its a fun film, a funny film, yknow. light hearted. easy to digest. some great scenes, hell, Jip is even watching some Bill Hicks in it. how can you go wrong.

Naked Lunch was my pick. I'm just glad nobody's said Traffic. Made Go look good.
i dont know about "best" but a good one is 'another day in paradise'

TRAFFIC!!!!!
Suck me beautiful...
Drugstore Cowboy for drug users. Traffic for the drug trade. Every drug movie I've seen between these two has bored me. They're all the same characters, same motivations, same ending, just in different clothes. Trainspotting was kind of funny I suppose. Sorta kinda. Requiem for a Dream is well-made but it's hugely overrated. I kept getting the feeling watching it that the filmmakers thought they were making the most important film ever. The person I saw it with and myself both looked at the screen and, sarcastically, said: "Wow! Drugs are bad! Thank you Darren Aronofsky, for showing us! Thank god directors like you are here to tell us these things!" Anyone else feel me on this? I was just disappointed with it after all the usual "oh man, it's so awesome..." hyperbole that routinely preceeds a movie like this. I don't need 2hr+ music video about losers from Coney Island.
andy
I didn't really like Traffic much.
"biccies"?
Permanent Midnight was good (and not yet mentioned?). Plus it had Janeane Garofolo.
my favorite is probably trainspotting or requiem for a dream (great camerawork).
but for funny drug movies, i can't believe no one's mentioned any cheech and chong movies. up in smoke is hilarious.
"There are problems in these times,
But, woo!, none of them are mine!"
what about rush? the one about the 2 cops that go undercover for a drug bust, but end up becoming junkies? jennifer jason leigh and jason patrick, also an appearance by gregg allman. that soundtrack kicked ass, if i recall...
i'd have to go with fear and loathing as a favorite, though. because johnny depp and benico del toro kicked its ass and because falling off the carousel is no fun.

It wasn't too bad, but not my favorite. I just put it on there to annoy unbeleiverdjack ; )

has anyone seen City By the Sea? I saw parts of it, and it looked pretty good. I'm not sure how good the whole thing is though....
Half Baked. Amen.

City by the sea is alright, I don't know, I was kind of ho-hum about the movie. It's not awful and probably worth a viewing, but I didn't think it's anything to write home about.
Yeah, i saw a monologue that Robert DeNiro did in it, and it seemed quite disappointing. He wasn't putting his whole self into. I've seen much better from him.

oh, and randome widenote-- how do you put pics underneath your name thingy? I can't figure it out. I'm too simpleminded for this newfangled internet thing.

At the top of every page is a listing of "Home News Events...etc", highlight Community and a list will appear underneath. Click on Profile. From there, click on the Edit Options link, and the avatar info is at the bottom of that page. And don't worry, it took me forever to figure this out, it's hidden really well.
here are the best "drug" movies:
half baked - jim bruer was born for this role
trainspotting - too real. amazing movie.
traffic - awesome depiction of how drugs affect even the wealthy, and shows how to launder drug money... always a plus.
scarface - cocaine... its a glamour drug.
requiem for a dream - also another movie that was amazingly realistic. marlon wayans was born for that role because he looks like a crack baby.
blow - the person the movie was based on is from massachusetts, can't go wrong with that, plus its DEPP.

I saw a movie called Pure. I'd have to guess it was made in England. It was really amazing. Its about a boy, whos mom is a heroin junkie. And all he wants is for her to get clean, and she tries, but fails, then he freebases some and its a crazy whirlwind ride really, but its a lovely film, check it out on Sundance if you have that grand channel.
We'd all like some real friends, but what are the odds of that happening?--Cheif Wiggum
oh, thats new isnt it. with David Wenham? right ?

I'm going to watch the new movie Spun now, based on a true story in which the writer of the film went on a little journey with a crystal meth "cook."
Be back later to tell you how it is.
Oh yeah, and the movie's entire soundtrack was done by Billy Corgan.
Alice in Wonderland.
Water is the life-giver, water is god’s tears. Water is a burst vein of the earth. Water is the dream that dreams you. Water is you, in a state that is not yet you. Water is unmeasured spoonfuls of drowning. Water is the sleep of the sky. Water is left-over night. Water is unformed sorrow.
Spun was alright, but it had a good feel to it. Also happens to hold the world record for most cuts in a single movie ever.
But story-wise is was alright. Good acting, though.
loved spun..saw it when it premiered at tiff...
i cant believed i missed jonas akerlund..apparently he was really drugged...my friends bumped into him in the alley for a smoke..same with brittany
anyway...for those in toronto this week...check out oz/darkside at the bloor this friday...i went to it last time they did it..basically they put the wizard of oz on mute and play darkside of the moon as the soundtrack...sure its amusing that it all synced up...but hey..iw as the only undrugged one..so i got really really bored...this is after seeing a 2 hour film right before it....

but willy wonka..yes drug movie...

im so over Billy Boo- but the cool thing is Jonas Akerlund did it. i hope it doesnt suck.

requiems score is awesome. fear and loathing is a great drug flick and good to watch fucked up. its great cuz thats how hunter s thompson lived. trainspotting was pretty fucked up.
damn ive never seen REQUIEM for a dream but ive heard the score and it blew me away!!! SOMEONE mustve peed in my mother cuz even after i heard the score to this day i still havent gotten off my ass and rented it!!-and by the way im new here so warm hello to all of you who share my love for chucks writing and down right funny as fuck humor!
Cheech and Chong
a million bucks
ARCHERDYLAN...someone peed in your mother???
It had over 5000 fucking cuts.
It was well done, but I guess you can say hypocritical.
I mean, Jonas Ackerlund is like these guys in the movie, yet he makes a movie showing how fucked up they are?
I don't know but I don't see the point then. It's like, at least Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas didn't make it looked bad and dirty.
Oh yeah, and I loved Patrick Fugit's character, Frisbee, he was hilarious.
And Mickey Rourke was awesome, too, as The Cook.
And it was the first role Brittany Murphy played well.
well she was playing herself...
the cook ought to be the best comeback role for rourke ever...at the premiere..whenever he appears on screen, this guy shouted out "go mickey"...i think mickey enjoyed it...he was in full out leather ensemble too...
frisbee is cute..in that funny sort of way....that scene..where it was just him and his mother..gotta be a homage to pink flamingos (well i know its not..but it reminds me of it..the filth)

Actually, I watched an interview with him at the premier, and he said he wasn't going to watch it. He said he doesn't like seeing his work until a few years later, so he just came to the premiere to hang out.
I guess he was lying?
When I think of Drug Movies Fear and Loathing pops into my head. That whole ether scene. /Shudders...

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas isn't really a drug movie.. The drugs are just there. Err, Hunter S. Thompson wrote something about people always labeling him a drug writer. But I am to lazy to find it..
SMALL_FIRE.....someone peeing in my mother is an expression when my mother was pregnant someone peed in her and that really fucked me over is the JYST of the saying....but i can see how your jaw would drop at such an expression.

I like to think that any movie with a big drug influence is a drug movie. Mainly, if the drugs play some kind of important role in the plot. The plot doesn't have to revolve around the use/abuse.

no..that's why i mentioned oz/darkside and willy wonka

The Basketball Diaries was decent-although Jim Carroll's novels are much better. Would Rules Of Attraction count? Actually, the story line isn't completely about drugs I guess. Boogie Nights?
The best is Requiem For A Dream though-well, in my opinion.
