Beer In Movie Theaters
I was watching Pulp Fiction last night and when I got to the scene with Vincent telling Jules about drinking beer in a movie theater in Europe, I realized we can do that in the U.S. One theater is Liberty Hall in Lawrence, Kansas, where the University of Kansas is located. Liberty Hall is a concert venue that doubles as a movie theater during off-nights, so the concession stands still offer beer during movies. Not shit beers like Budweiser or Miller, but good local brews like Boulevard and imports like Guinness. The last time I went there and had a beer was actually for the 10th anniversary of Pulp Fiction, and all of us with beers yelled, "Cheers!" and raised our glasses during this scene.
I know this can't be the only theater in the country that sells beer for movies. I'm sure there is at least one in Chicago that does this, but I haven't been to a lot of them yet. Any of you guys have theaters around you that offers beer?
It makes sense the Vic has something like that. I'd bet the Music Box sells beer too, but I don't know for sure because I haven't been there in a year or so.
I've never been to the place, but my sister in Vermont has told me of a small theater that's all couches and big chairs with a bar in the back where you can get drinks of many varieties, including beer. I'll have to track her down for the name of the place though.

I live in Europe, and honestly never realised you could drink in any movie theatres here (alcoholic beverages, I mean). Turns out it's only really the big chains (Warner Village.... sorry, Vue, the Odeon, yada yada yada) who don't allow you to have a nice elaborate cocktail.
From now on I shall be frequenting arty cinemas only, particularly the one near my halls, which sells absinthe
Jess, your sig makes me feel nauseous. Is it Emerson? Or one of those other wankers?
Jess, Thoreau is a genius.
That's so weird, I was reading Thoreau this afternoon. Why did I think it was Emerson? No matter.
None here in Pennsylvania that I know of. But what a great idea. I wish there was one. An incentive for me to get out to the movies more often...
If you want to get alcohol into somewhere like the odeon just shove it in your bag, just dont be surprised when people stare at you when you shart cheering for doc oc to beat up post 9/11 civillian heros(although perhaps thats just me and my friends).
Whatever you do, remember not to give standing ovations for great lines and under absolutely no circumstances should successive mexian waves be attempted.

It's the alcohol-only absinthe, isn't it? I thought the wormwood-laced (aka "real) absinthe is illegal in England.

True, as far as I know it is still banned. However, even alcohol-only absinthe seems to be at least 10% more than any thing else at the bar, which is all that's bothering me
(this particular brand is about 55% I think).

Isn't it banned because it's toxic? I don't know. Ignore me I'm an arse.

Nah, just because of the halucinogenic properties of wormwood. I've heard it just became legal in the U.S., but I don't know for sure, or even which variety is legal.
I do know there are websites to purchase absinthe, but I have to get them from my friend. It would be easier by you since you're closer to countries that have absinthe legally. For me, it's chancey. Some sites guarantee delivery but cost an assload to dodge customs, while some are cheaper, but admit they can't guarantee delivery, and oh yeah, they require credit card info. Can you say, "Welcome to the slammer! Show me yo' ass!"?

In Chicago there is The Brew and View at The Vic Theatre In Wrigleyville.... and out in the burbs there is one possibly in Lombard.... not sure of the name.
