BBC/Discovery Channel's Planet Earth
Is anyone going to watch the upcoming Discovery Channel's Planet Earth series or has anyone seen the BBC's Planet Earth series? They are the same thing, but I read the order of the programs will be different and will have a different narrator.
All in all, I'd recommend the BBC version. David Attenborough is a fantastic narrator.
I've currently seen the first three. The cinematography is fantastic, it was all filmed in HD and I believe it cost over $15 mil to film.
There was a cool scene in the Fresh Water episode where a group of Otters harass a crocodile or alligator.
Check it out:headbang:

It's a pity they left out alot of the "violent" killing scenes to appeal to a broader audience. When I have kids, they can watch all the snow leopards taking down and eating animals all they want, that's life and that's nature, much different than dramatized violence.

did you notice that they tended to antagonize carnivores? what the fuck was with that?
i also enjoyed seeing natural selection in its purest form when the wolf chased the caribou.

The US version will probably not talk about evilution to appeal to the fundies.
Actually, David Attenborough said that alot of fundies come up to him and tell him that they appreciate that he doesn't talk alot about evolution in alot of his documentaries, but they don't realize HE DID A WHOLE 13 PART SERIES on it.

I ended up watching cartoons instead. The Chinemtoagadafie looked good but the narration seemed to placate.
I also don't like the hunting stuff very much.
This show is the best thing happening on TV right now. The episode about the different ways birds compete for mates was amazing.

Which episode is that? Is that the one where the elephants get taken down by lions at night? I've been wanting to see that.

I don't remember if this was on Planet Earth or Attenborough's other recent show Blue Planet, but the one about the creatures that live in the dark abyss at the bottom of the ocean was fucking incredible.
I actually bought the Blue Planet DVD set, definitely worth it. Abyss was one of my favorite movies when I was younger, not so much for the sci-fi elements but just for the underwater exploration. I was actually on UWM's inagural underwater ROV (remotely operated vehicle) Team, and the vice-president of the team their second year.

I can't remember if it's the same one as the lion one, but in this one the baby elephant gets separated from the others in a dust storm - it's heart breaking! (And yes, it is a bit soft to cry, but I don't cry at everything, just animal stuff. Oh, and board games.) The whole series is amazing, such great footage.

The Twilight Zone! That's what they called it at The Deep.
Saw a trailer for it for the first time tonight, definatley looks pretty cool. Will be tivo'ing that at my parents house this week for sure.
Wait, Attenborough doesn't narrate the American version? You guys are deprived.
It will probably be Morgan Freeman.
No one has the right to teach us stuff we don't want to learn. That's what our Bill of Constitution's all about.
In my day all we had was Merlin Perkins on the Mutual of Omaha show
thats the way it was and we liked it!

That's why I downloaded the BBC version. Attenborough is a hero of mine!!
I've downloaded and seen the Blue Planet, Life on Earth, Lost Worlds, Vanished Lives, The Private Life of Plants, and Life in the Freezer, all are excellent. I even bought some of Attenborough's books.
I have queued on my computer The Living Planet, Trials of Life, The Life of Birds, The Life of Mammals, and Life in the Undergrowth, plus various other shows by him.

Sigourney Weaver is supposedly the narrator of the US version, I haven't seen the US version, so I can't confirm.
