Batman begins

I CAN NOT WAIT! This is going to (hopefully) be a fantastic movie, full of cool action, while still remaining dark - true to the Miller comic books.
Anyone else looking forward to Batman Begins?

Dude. This cannot come out soon enough.
Am supposed to go out with friends for the late showing of Oceans 12. Would so much rather see Begins.
All of my life, never seeing that bat as a vulnerable, impressionable young man, I am not only intrigued, I am transfixed. And that trailer has only upped my desire.
Thanks, Asg

You have plenty of time, doesn't come out until the summer. I'm bummed, no good movies to watch this winter. Is ANYTHING decent coming out? Yes, I know about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (which should be interesting), but is there anything else?
I'm worried about War of the Worlds. Hopefully it will be OK.
Those two trailers are here somewhere

This is going to be a good year for Frank Miller fans.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory doesn't come out until July.
Looks totally drab. All the fanboys seem to have forgotten that IT'S A STORY ABOUT A GUY WHO DRESSES LIKE A GIANT BAT. This navel-gazing, my-parents-died-20-years-ago shit is totally inappropriate. Where's the fuckin' fun to be had watching this?
It's not easy having a good time.
Even smiling makes my face ache.

I'm sure there's going to be an amazing car chase between Batman and the cops, intricate fight scenes, all that summer blockbuster action that Spiderman 2 had and all the other comic book movies had and that should at least be fun if the whole origin giant leather gay bat suit ninja training doesn't remotely entertain you. But like you said, its a guy dressed as a big bat, kind of like any other superhero dressing up in pajamas. Best advice for anyone about this movie: if your a frank miller fan, or somewhat enjoyed the first two batman films then you will be entertained and enjoy this new one, and if your not then go for the action and don't worry about the other stuff.
Sara and I just saw the preview for this at "Ocean's 12". I swear, at first I thought it was a preview for the new Star Wars, and then I realized that Liam Neeson's character is dead. It looked like a fuckin samurai movie. Pass.
There is hope, but not for us.
Chris Nolan didnt do this did he?
ps. i love Mr Bale, but this looks so lame.

t-minus 2 hours and 48 minutes until showtime.
Saw this last night and I wasn't dissappointed in the slightest.
Going in like 10 hours.
I'm glad that reviews are good, but I agree with Ozy. It just looks too natural and ordinary.
Apparently my views will change tonight.

i can't think of the appropriate enough words to describe how much i enjoyed this film. on a scale of 1 - 100, it scored in the 96 - 98 percentile. the only bitches i have involve one or two quick editing cuts that should've slowed down a quarter of a second, there was one forced joke that didn't fit right, the drama with that little kid who (*spoiler alert*) i'm guessing turns out to be robin by the third movie, the second time we see him it felt too obvious; finally, the only other nit-picky bitch i had was they didn't have the line of dialogue that was in the trailer, where bruce wayne phones alfred to tell him he needs a jet sent to whatever country he was in at the beginning.
the dialogue was wonderful--that was the best part of the movie for me. the actors were great, even Christian Bale, who i'm not really a fan of although I probably should be. so yeah, definitely go out and see this movie. they set up the sequel perfectly, and i'm wondering how they're going to try to top jack nicholson's performance as the joker.
oh, and the fight sequences were good, but the camera was too close to the action.
I just got back - I thought it was very impressive and much better than i was expecting. Basically - I loved it.
(Alex - I too thought that about the little boy)
I had to add this just 'cuz. I'm sorry...
Okay - So Cillian Murphy is by far the hottest man to walk the Earth, yes, even in 28 Days Later. And I don't do celebrity crushes (except Ed Norton<3) - this is weird for me. Damn - damn - damn. The glasses totally make him hottah.
yeah, i was getting all hot and bothered too, and i'm like AT LEAST 82% straight.

edit: that was a joke justin. i'm weird.
The thing about the fight scenes being too close is good in my opinion it creates an air of the supernatural with Batman doing what he is doing. I don't want to see how he takes out everyone to a fine point, I like the thought of the imagination taking over with it and thinking of what he was doing.
I've been busy with other endeavors, but tonight I'll be seeing myself on the big screen.

Um... no.
I really liked the movie. My favorite character was Alfred.

I just got back from seeing this. It had some good moments (Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne, Gary Oldman, Liam Neeson) and bad moments (Christian Bale as Batman, Katie Holmes, the Batmobile), but overall I liked it. I was most impressed by Nolan not overdoing the computer graphics, unlike other comic-based movies have done *cough*X-Men, Spider-Man*cough*.

i thought about how bale decided to do batman, and i really actually liked him doing that deep-voice thing, because it's such a realistic thing. i mean, like, you're playing a part, you know? so wouldn't you do that too? katie holmes sucks but she looks good, and i forgive them for the batmobile because 1: it was cool enough, and B- they explained it well enough; oh, and the movie was cool so it was forgiveable.

All agreed. Also agreed on the fight sequence cameras. To me it seems the fights could have been filmed a little better than they actually were. I thought Ducard was a really cool character. Bale played Batman well enough, Gary Oldman is still the shit, Neeson did a good job. I'm glad the set-up for the sequel was not forced. Looking forward to who's going to playing the Joker. Looks like smooth sailing for the Batship so far.
And, something I think is important with big studio pictures: this movie will be good on the small screen. Many big budget films seem like they lose a lot out of the theatre, but this doesn't seem to be so in this case.

I thought the vehicle was cool, but I thought in the previews it was going to be a specialized Batmobile, like the different vehicles he had in the older comics. I can understand doing a different voice for playing the part, but it just made me chuckle. I kind of thought Michael Keaton did a somewhat better job in Batman. That's just me.

i have a funny story about him, which i will bring to the meet up.
Hey guys,
I gotta tell ya, I was disappointed with BATMAN BEGINS. Granted, I was never a big fan of the original Tim Burton movie (and obviously of the sequels). But I DO love Christopher Nolan's work, as a director. And I thought the cast was stellar, including Bale in the titular role. (always wanted to use that word).
But the film just left me dry. I grew bored by it only an hour in. I liked the attention they paid to Bruce Wayne and his backstory and tragic childhood, but once he becomes Batman, it felt like nothing new. Nolan didn't bring anything that original to the action sequences. The editing was choppy and it was hard to tell what the hell was going on most of the time. I've read that this was his intention. That he didn't want to show Batman doing kung-fu in choreographed fight sequences from a safe distance. But there's a much better way to film and edit close-up action... and this wasn't it.
My other major problem was with the story. I didn't feel the film had any one central villain. Take Liam Neeson for instance... he felt like a good guy... a mentor... right up even to the end. When they pull the switcheroo at the party, and you find out who he really is... and then he begins spouting his mantra about why Gotham must be destroyed... it just felt forced and rushed to me, and I didn't buy it... nor did I honestly care if Gotham got destroyed.
I think I cared more about Wayne's mansion being burned down.
The film DID have some very good moments. It has some nice doses of humor (Freeman and Caine, come to mind). And I like the attention too that they paid to trying to make the stunts and gadgets based in realism, rather than comic book fantasy. But it seems like, by the end of the film, they just tossed all that out the window... b/c it looked 'cool' when Batman flew around with his wings. *sighs
I don't know. This film just didn't do it for me. And it's too bad, because it had a lot of talent involved. It could've been sharper and more honed. Instead, it was big, scattered, and messy.
Wanna have the pants scared off you in 90 seconds?
Watch 'Laundry Day', my new horror short:

I think the point of the movie was to go in depth with Batman's origins, hence "Batman Begins." (I'm not trying to sound sarcastic and condecending here) I believe a good chunk of the story was taken from, or at least based off of Frank Miller's Batman: Year One comic. It's on my dresser and is waiting to be read, meaning I'll probably read it this weekend sometime.

Damn Right - He's playing a damn comic book super hero!! What the hell do you want?! Sean fucking Connery?
Christopher Nolan is at the sell out point right now. He had some great, movies then he does this hollywood blockbuster shit. Both Lynch and Cronenberg came close to whoring out but they continued to do real movies instead. It will be interesting to see if Nolan becomes another talentless hollywood assclown like Verhoeven.

wow, you're quite a jackass. the guy does two studio films and he's all the sudden on the way to being talentless? that's amazingly ignorant. also, i wasn't a fan of insomnia, but i do appreciate how nolan has taken what could've easily been lesser movies and made them more than that. they've both (insomnia and batman begins) had an edge to them and a feel to them that nearly all hollywood directors wouldn't've had.

I liked the original Insomnia much more, Stellan Skarsgaard was far more interesting than Al Pacino.
Nolan has talent, taking a Hollywood gig need not dilute that. The worry would be if the system gets in his head and he stops editing himself like some do once they are on top.
Ridley Scott had this problem for awhile but he beginning to come around again.
Speaking of Stellan Skargaard, did anyone see Aberdeen? I liked that film quite a bit as well.
I was here. Then I wasn't. Then I was again.
