Bands that were awesome and then bad and then awesome again
So I used to love In Flames. They kicked ass in all the ways a band should kick ass. Then they abruptly started sucking. Literally...they had this album called Clayman which was great, and then their next album was a piece of shit called Reroute to Remain. Then they put out another shitty album called Soundtrack to your escape. I gave up on them. They may have even put out a third shitty album...I'm not sure. That's how angry I got.
But then suddenly, this week, I find out that their last two albums are really good again! This never happens! What a lovely surprise! In fact, there's one song I can't get out of my head and am totally in love with.
So you...what bands did you used to love before they turned to shit but now you love them again?
Tom, have you been sniffing glue again?
Well, Guns N Roses have fulfilled the first two parts of the thread, so here's hoping they'll eventually come around to the third part...

guns n roses were never good.
i'll say the red hot chili peppers though. started cool, sucked for a while, and are now awesome again but for different reasons.
Offspring was the first band I really listened to, but then I got tired of them. A lot. Too many joke songs and not enough goodness on their albums. Then their newest album, Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace is fucking wicked. Kicks most of their other album's asses.

New Kids on the Block.
I always thought Offspring's music sounded like stuff that had already been recorded by other artists.
Hah. THat's an interesting way to look at it. But they're definitely "their own" sound. Punk with heavy rock influences, infusion of some Middle Eastern riffs, joke songs, some Spanish lyrics thrown in for good measure... their album Smash I liked a lot, it was very dark, then their stuff got lighter and lighter in tone. This newest album, though, is just really great. Sounds very different than most of their previous stuff.

i think this is the most glowing interpretation of the offsprings music ever. because, really, other than this, id have to agree with alecia but go on to say that the offspring was not only never good, but is quite possibly a damaging band for the american music scene. though, thankfully, theyre fittingly unremembered.

Fittingly unremembered... clearly, you don't know much about punk. Or maybe even rock. In the 90's, Green Day were sort of The Beatles of "pop-punk" and Offsprin were the Stones. Today, they're still very much alive, but their music hasn't been at the top of playlists for a while. They're still considered one of the best rock bands (at least in punk) in modern music though.
Personally, I haven't been a big fan for a long time. But their newest CD is quite good. And a lot of people have loved them for a long time. A couple of dorky singles aside like "Pretty Fly" and "Why Don't You Get a Job" (both off the same lackluster album), they have other great stuff: "Gone Away", "Smash", "Come Out and Play", "The Kids Aren't Alright" "Come Out Swinging" "Vultures" "The Meaning of Life" "Change the World" "All I Want" "Genocide" ... I could go on, but hey.
i wouldnt say 'pop-punk' is punk.
and greenday has always sucked.
and who honestly considers them one of the best bands in modern music besides people who hate music?
i will say, though, that the kids arent alright was an enjoyable tune.
and double posts are cool.
i'm not a fan of people that talk as if their opinions are fact: "green day has always sucked"
I like almost all of their albums. They used to be one of my favorite bands, and I've seen them live as well. I grew up with them. Millions of people also love them. Green Day, that is.
I don't really care if everyone likes Offspring or not, I wasn't a big fan for a long time either, but I also think it's idiotic to say they were damaging to American music. They were a punk band that happened to put out some dorky songs that got them even more well known, but their albums are typically filled with harder, more serious ones that have a lot to say. The Kids Aren't Alright, Come Out and Play, All I Want, Smash... all popular songs that tackle serious themes and do it well.
i dont think fanbase determines how good something is
but you can like whatever you want
guns n roses were never good.
Id like to add U2 to that.

Paul McCartney

havent listened to any of his stuff from, like, the last thirty[?] years.
how does his new stuff compare to, lets say, harvest moon? or other albums from that era.
I gotta say Linkin Park. I know it can be easily argued that they were never good, but I really loved their first album; Hybrid Theory. After that they put out one of the worst albums ever; Reanimation. After that was still shit with Meteora, but finally their newest album; Minutes to Midnight, which I haven't bought, but have heard a great deal from, seems to be at least decent. Their are a few songs from it that i really enjoy.

i'll back linkin parks first album. probably more timing and my age at the time, but that album was soooooooooooooooo cool. though, i feel like if it came out now id hate it.
havent even heard a linkin park song since, probably, junior year[?], maybe longer.

I'll agree with GnR, but the RHCP started good, got great, then started going downhill after Navarro left.
I think a lot of metal heads would put Machine Head in this category; their first couple albums were metal, then they tried two "nu-metal" albums, then came back fucking swinging hard with "Through Ashes.." and one of the best albums of 2007, "The Blackening"

THATS SO +3 STILETTO DUDE
now i feel bad for saying that.

Well, I listened to Pink Floyd alot and then I got their album The Final Cut. That album would always depress me. They didn't turn shitty, I just didn't like the depression. So, I stopped listening to them for a while. A couple weeks or so. Then I got back into them, after I went to a value village by where I used to live and found a record for two dollars...
That record was The Wall.
Looks like Spunck's life is dull and pointless.
