Band of the 90s
And on the teen angst thing, well fuck, maybe teen angst isn't such a bad thing!? Fuck the world indeed.
Yeah you're so high and mighty. Like you're above teen angst, like you're above getting pissed off sometimes and feeling hopeless. Fuck, almost all music is about teen angst, it's just prettied up or made abstract, but it all boils down to being pissed off or depressed. That's what fucking art comes from - life sucking ass. So get off your high horse and stop pretending to be so above it and great and all this. You're not, you're a sad little pathetic piece of shit like all the rest of us. Deal with it.
And listen to some Nirvana.
Finally! Someone who's not afraid to fucking make their point without trying to take others' feelings into account.
Nirvana sounds good?
I just don't think that power chords sound that great. That's just me... I don't like Tom Morello for his damn power chords, and I don't like Kurt Cobain for his either.
If God takes life, he's an indian giver.
Oh and...
*turns on Radiohead*
If God takes life, he's an indian giver.
Good music does not have to be complicated. You have such an axe to grind with Nirvana it's almost funny. No talent? At all? Nirvana created a sound and hype that has yet to be duplicated.
And we are all so so sorry for you that Pearl Jam has always been second fiddle.
i respect your honesty, but i detest what you're being honest about.
Well I like Radiohead, too, fuck, everyone does.
But okay then. You don't like Nirvana and I don't like Pearl Jam. That's about as far as we can take this. It is, after all, simply personal preference. I just get annoyed when people get all up-in-arms about a band not having enough talent.. Good lord.. Who cares, as long as the sound is good or the message is good or whatever.. Fuckin enjoy.
And god damn Valchrist rules. Thank you for making me laugh.
Maybe even third or fourth fiddle because in my opinion, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden can play circles around Vedder and company.
i respect your honesty, but i detest what you're being honest about.
Alice in Chains is blah, but Soundgarden is nice.
They did?
Hahaha... damnit, I say that I think Pearl Jam is the band of the 90's and people think that I like them.
I do not like Pearl Jam.
If God takes life, he's an indian giver.
Soundgarden was good.
I've lost faith in Chris with this Audioslave shit, though.
If God takes life, he's an indian giver.

That is like the fifth time I've seen you respond to a post with a question that goes nowhere.
Yes, they did.
Here, I'll clear it up again for you in case you missed it.
They did.
i respect your honesty, but i detest what you're being honest about.
There were many different grunge-type bands that came before Nirvana that sounded like them.
I'm not saying they were better or worse than them or anything, but hell... it's not like Nirvana CREATED grunge out of thin air. They brought it to the mainstream... which, I'm sure a lot of old school grunge fans hated.
Seeing as I'm not an old school grunge fan, I could care less, though.
If God takes life, he's an indian giver.
I said sound AND hype. The two ideas obviously went together because anyone can play out of a fuzz box, you retard.
No one has done it like Nirvana has.
i respect your honesty, but i detest what you're being honest about.
Okay... I give you that.
Nirvana's sound and hype was unmatched by any 90's band.
Go Nirvana. Woo Kurt Cobain.
If God takes life, he's an indian giver.
Your sarcasm doesn't hide anything. You know it's the facts, man.
i respect your honesty, but i detest what you're being honest about.
Sarcasm?
Oh sorry, that was a question. I'm not allowed to reply with those.
Seriously... I agree with the hype/sound statement and such.
If God takes life, he's an indian giver.

Wreckx-N-Effects definately the band of the 90s. Have we all forgotten this:
All I wanna do is zooma-zoom-zoom-zoom
and a boom-boom
Just shake your rump
That song was the party anthem for the 90s. It had a great message that got people up and shaking their asses.
Damnit Valchrist, making me feel dumb again. Alice in Chains. Definately a runner up in my book. As for the whole arguement here, this can go on forever. Opinions are like assholes right...you get the picture. As far as the reasons why I think Nirvana was the band of the year? Simple, their music sounded great. End a fuckin story. It wasn't for everybody, and if it was, then that would be sad. Anyway, I'm amped off of my mind and thought I'd drop by to read some opinions since I can't sleep right now.
Check baby check baby one two three four. Classic!
Suck me beautiful...
Oh yeah, can't forget the Red Hot Chili Peppers
Suck me beautiful...

clearly, this post has taken a deadly turn for the worse...better...worse.
let me clear things up.
kevin, while Wreckx-N-Effects certainly are a GOOD band...there is only one answer to who is THE BAND OF THE 90s
They've warmed your hearts from time to time, with such hits as "Dirty Dawg" and who didn't slow dance to "Please don't go girl" They may be gone, but they will live on forever in our hearts and our memories. we are talking about none other than
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
Yes, Jordan, Donnie, Joe, Danny, and Jon. My heart is cut up like a pizza pie with a special place for each of them nuzzled up right inside. I had the beach towel, the dolls...and I still have them, a little shrine dedicated to NKOTB in my closet. At night, I go inside and turn on my tape player to reveal the song "Step-by-Step" (Which had nothing to do with the best SHOW of the 90s by the same name) And I dance in front of my shrine and pretend that they are still around...singing to me and only me.
second place: milli vanilli
third place (sorry kevin) Wreckx-N-Effects
p.s. hypothetically, put joey from NKOTB and Kurt Cobain in a boxing ring. give Kurt Cobain a machine gun and cut off one of joey's legs....he'll still beat the shit out of Kurt Cobain any day.
Nirvana or Rage Against the Machine definately.
Nirvana cuz of the obvious and Rage cuz they rule
WHOA! LET'S NOT INSULT PEOPLE, HEY?

Hot damn, I thought I was the only Sublime fan in this joint. I think I have a cyber-crush.
Sublime isn't very good when you play them during winter.
But summer...
Man.
i respect your honesty, but i detest what you're being honest about.
Shit yeah. Nothin' quite like cruisin' with the windows down and the Sublime blastin'. I only wish I had a convertible and lived in Long Beach.
I wish I was a little bit taller.
I wish I was a baller.
I wish I had a girl. If I did, I would call her.
(Another great 90's joint.)

Has anyone heard of Black Label Society? They are a great band from the 90's and the present. Zack Wylde is an amazing guitar player. (yeah thats right Disx is said that Mr. Wylde is brilliant at playing the guitar, he has talent and his solos DO sound good.) They put on a great show too.
You know im going to lose
Gamblings for fools
But thats the way i like it

i lived in the lbc for about a year (no convertible at the time...i was broke as a joke those days). i swear, you'd think brad's still alive and the eponymous cd was just released they way EVERYONE is all about them. you'd walk into one bar and hear "lovin'..." walk into the bar next door and hear "...is what i got..."
which reminds me, has anyone ever heard eyes adrift? starring bud gaugh from sublime, krist novoselic from nirvana and curt kirkwood from meatpuppets? they're not so bad, but they try kinda hard not to be the bands they came from...it's like this huge cross they have to bear, or something. none the less, they're pretty good, worth a listen anyway.
WOW BLACK LABELED SOIETY YOURE VERY UNDERGORUND MISTER BECKHAM&&

-Soundgarden.

I like Curt Cobain for one reason. With three chords, he stopped Axl Rose's career dead in it's tracks. And Van Hagar's. And Poison's. And Motley Crue's. And two or three hundred other shitty hair-metal bands...
Yay, Kurt!

Ditto and ditto. I never really got into them - not much of a reggae fan - though I did see them at a dozen or so backyard parties/dive bar gigs and such. I sang some Stooges song with them (TV Eye, I think) at a show called All Things Strange and Beautiful. God, I drank a lot back then... ::gets all whistful and starts quietly singing to self while holding back sobs::
brad was decomposing by the time i hit the scene, BUT, what is it about long beach that encourages the drink? is it because you're *that* much closer to LA?
The bastard progeny of dockworkers in a post-aquatic economy. What else _is_ there to do? Once you've seen that big-old-bitch of a boat, that's it.

I disagree with you on Wylde being a "shitty guitar ". He got voted mvp by gutar player magazine, and his solos are great. BLS' new album is going to be pretty good too.

I am stricken with jealousy. Seriously. I don't know what else to say. Where's the nearest time machine? I didn't even really discover them until I was 15 (which was like 2 or 3 years after Bradley died) and they've been sitting at or near the top of my list ever since. Long Beach Dub Allstars just don't cut it.

dude, do you even know what the fuck you are talking about????
what is musical talent for you huh? britney spears?
Vandalism: as beautiful as a rock in a cop's face.
You've obviously never heard a good guitar player.
And this argument has been duked, already... you're late.
If God takes life, he's an indian giver.
The Verve. I've been a long time fan since 1993 and I was amazed that they became popular towards the end of the 1990s. Richard Ashcroft is a brilliant song writer and I hope one day the band gets back together.
Northern Soul
This is a tale of a Northern Soul
Looking to find his way back home
He's coming from that same old road
You know the one your folds don't know
I want to see if you know me
I was born in a rented room
My mother didn't get no flowers
Dad didn't approve of me, do you?
I'm alive with something inside of me
And I don't think I'm coming back
So come on come in inside of me
Let's spread it all around
Give me your powder and pills
I want to see if they cure my ills
I've no time for love and devotion
No time for old fashioned potion
Take a look into my eyes
I tell you so many lies and then I'll let you go into the night
And I don't think I'm coming down
I'm alive with something inside of me
And I can't seem to get it out
I'm gonna die alone in bed
This is a tale of a northern soul
Looking for his way back home
And my friend said, "Come in side of me
And your speakers are telling the truth
Coming through and into your room on a river of sound"
This is a tale of a northern soul looking for his way back home
And if he sees it I know I'll know [repeat]
And there's fighting on the street below
I know there's fighting on the street below
But I don't care 'Cause I'm a Northern Soul
And I'm looking for a way back home
Too busy staying alive [repeat]
Too busy living a lie, too busy living my life
Too busy staying alive
The Stones. E nuf sed.

Man. I swear. What is with people crying about talent and such? OMFG U DIDNTNOT FUCKEING DO ANAAMZING SPECATULKR GUTAR SOLO U MUSTE SUX AT GUIETAR I WONET LISETN!!!!
You know what? Fuck you. Does it matter how hard it is to play his shit? Fuck no. What matters is does it sound good and can you connect with the music. Okay, so he drones sometimes, I happen to like that, that is simply a matter of personal preference. But god damn, I really can't stand when people start talking about talent in music like it's some fucking holy grail. Shit, you're talented, fucking fantastic for you, but you know what? Guitar solos, while difficult, sound like ASS. Thus, talent doesn't fucking matter. What matters is making a GOOD SOUND. Shit. It's not that difficult, really, it isn't. And I like you Ian, so stop being a bitch. Just to spite you, I'm listening to some Nirvana, right now, god dammit.
