Ask An Aging Rocker
Are you like me? are you a product of the 80's and never got to see the mighty Black Flag?
never seen the Cramps or Tom Waits? well....ask Tuffy! he's seen 'em all, you can bet. I would.
name the band(s) you wish you could have seen, and if Tuffy has seen them play, he will recount the tale of the gig.
this is going to be so much fun!
Tuffy, I will start. I asked you once a while ago, but I don't know if you saw the post or what. did you see Black Flag? which singer did they have at the point you saw them? what was the gig like? what objects got thrown at the band? spit? beer mugs? folding chairs? what injuries did you walk away with? or limp away with? how much did the gig cost to get into back then? all of those details.
FUNK IT WET; 6 DAYS
-the prophesy in Maddie's orange juice squirts.
damn Tuffy. I don't just want to pick your brain, I want to suck it out and have it for myself.
FUNK IT WET; 6 DAYS
-the prophesy in Maddie's orange juice squirts.
Euw.
dude, just part of it then?
for my next request!:
The Dead Boys
FUNK IT WET; 6 DAYS
-the prophesy in Maddie's orange juice squirts.
No, they broke up too early for me to see em. Love em though...
the Birthday Party and/or Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.
please tell me you saw them and Nick was insane.
again, all the details about projectiles, gig fees, gig venue, general atmosphere, spare me nothing.
OK this is the last one I'll do until a few other people go, I promise.
FUNK IT WET; 6 DAYS
-the prophesy in Maddie's orange juice squirts.
Saw Nick & the Seeds when they played Lollapaloser back in, what, 93?
Huge festivals suck and I hate them, but I was working the show that weekend, so I didn't have to pay.
CalState Dominguez Hills, a bicylce racing arena. L7 came out and sang backup on Deeana. His set was great, but no Blixa on guitar which was too bad. I squeezed through at the beginning of the set and got about three rows of bodies from the front, but then I looked behind me and saw the 60k other people surging towards the front - limp bodies were being lifted over the barriers and carried away - so I allowed myself to be squirted back from the stage a bit to where my feet actually touched the ground.
Yeah, I hate festivals...
I got fired for sneaking too many people in for free. Had my laminate, and was passing it through a chainlink fence to people on the outside, they would walk in through the gates, turn and bring it back to my & my crew. We got probably 20 - 25 in before we got caught. Funny thing was they took away our laminates, but didn't escort us out, so we stayed and watched for a while. I got bored during the Beastie Boys and left befor the Smashing Pumpkins went on.

if you're not going to milk Tuffy for his stories, get out of my room.

NUN STORY
There is hope, but not for us.
Jane. No.
Okay, short version. I fucked a nun.
I already knew that, dammit.
There is hope, but not for us.
hahaha, nun!
hey you fuckers, this thread is the tits. start naming bands for Tuffy.
post your damn responses or I'll break ya legs, see?
FUNK IT WET; 6 DAYS
-the prophesy in Maddie's orange juice squirts.
For all you know, Nun Story could be a band. So go suck an egg.
I mean, I love you.
There is hope, but not for us.
the fuckers I was refering to didn't include you, jane. you posted in my thread nicly. it's the fuckers who I know have a band they can name. like Six On The Dot or alene.
I mostly just wanted to bump the thread so they and others may see it better.
ps. great, now I have this image of Tuffy fucking a whole band. maybe even giving the rodies hand-jobs. how come the dirtiest stuff here seems to always come from jane s.? that's weird.
FUNK IT WET; 6 DAYS
-the prophesy in Maddie's orange juice squirts.
CHOCOLATE JESUS
There is hope, but not for us.
oh my god jane!!!! stop now! stop it! bad jane. bad.

Tuffy: Have you been rocked by the Eagles?
They might be a little too old, but I figured I'd ask.

Faith No More?

"[It's] time for the human race to enter the solar system."
you know, it kills Autumn, just a little, to see so few people taking advantage of this thread. it really does. because to me, this is one of those cool ideas like the mix exchange was a cool idea.
Tuffy's got stories! I don't believe that you don't want them all.
FUNK IT WET; 6 DAYS
-the prophesy in Maddie's orange juice squirts.
ok, tuffy, tell the truth:
did you ever see one of those hesher hair-metal bands?
you know, like Winger (HA!), Poison, Skid Row, Warrant, Motley Crue (how do you make an umlaut?), RATT (a personal fave), Iron Maiden, etc...
how's that, 84?
how's that, 84?
first off...you can call me Autumn. that's fine.
OK so I guess I went overboard. it was intentional. to stress a point. and to bump the thread.
FUNK IT WET; 6 DAYS
-the prophesy in Maddie's orange juice squirts.
butthole surfers?
dead kennedys?
fishbone?
slint?
i dont like much punk
and that stuff isnt really punk
but hey
For all you know, Nun Story could be a band. So go suck an egg.
Leather Nun was a band. Saw them. Not much to tell. Small club. Got drunk. Flirted clumsily with chicks.
[edit] Went home. Alone.
Tuffy: Have you been rocked by the Eagles?

A little too old? Jesus.
I never went for that arenabullshitseventiescrap.
melvins?
Nope.
Not that I can remember.
ok, tuffy, tell the truth:

I did work stage crew for Glass Tiger for a while... You don't remember them? Heh. You're lucky.
I hated metal in all its forms until relatively recently, my older brother being a hessian while I was a punk. I actually saw Iron Maiden this last Summer - I went because Motorhead was the opening act. Motorhead, of course, was the shit. Maiden were better than I remembered, but still silly METAL, AAARRRRGHH!!!!-type metal with their over-size puppets and guys in costumes and pyro displays. I got hammered off my ass and joined some girls band as bass player, but gave her a fake phone number.
butthole surfers?
Several times. Always a good live show. I'd always see age ranges from 8 to 80 , which struck me as weird.
Broke up while I was still pretty young.
Fishbone is the ultimate band to hire for your birthday party should you ever find yourself rich. I also saw them as the horn section for the Violent Femmes back in 86 - still one of the top-five best shows I have ever seen in my life.
Never heard of 'em.
I think I'm from Tuffy's era, I've seen dead Kennedys, butthole Surfers, and Fishbone. The only time I remember stuff being thrown at a band was PIL, i was against the stage and handed john a whippette which he looked at quizically then pocketed. Oh the good old days eh Tuffy?
cool morey. jump in with your own stories. I don't just want to milk Tuffy, it's all some good...milk.
Iggy. ready? go!
FUNK IT WET; 6 DAYS
-the prophesy in Maddie's orange juice squirts.

Dammit, I had a big reply to this, but then this lame-ass pc at work desides that it needs to reboot.
Yeah, I love the Flag. Only saw them the one time though. I still have the stub somewhere. The Ramones, Black Flag & the Minutemen at the Hollywood Palladium in 84. The night of the infamous LAPD riot. Back then, punks were viewed by the LAPD as a "gang" in the same way that the Bloods, Crips, or Suis were, so as this show let out, scores of cops in riot gear arrived and just started beating the shit out of everyone. We just ran like hell.
It was a fantastic show.
Singer was Rollins. I don't remember anything particularly being thrown at the bands - that would have been a great way of inviting a serious asskicking; there was no glasswear and certainly no chairs of any kind. This was the same place where The Lawrence Welk Show was filmed every week for years... I stayed pretty close to the back of the floor away from the slamming, so I was unscathed. I think it was like $8 general admission...
