Arrested Development vs. Always Sunny in Philidelphia
I beg to differ, sir

There is no way to differ, Always Sunny cannot be contened with.
I know that there are some serious fans of both here, but I hadn't been able to watch Arrested until I discovered Hulu. After watching the whole series, Always Sunny is still better. The reason being that in Sunny, all the characters stay true to themselves, whereas in Arrested, Michael in particular, contradicts his own character like every episode and it kinda ruins it. It's still hilarious, but not as funny as Always Sunny.

Arrested Development had way too much narration and flashback.
Still though, Season Four of Always Sunny wasn't much to write home about either.
Arrested development!!!!
Hands down. It doesn't get better than Tobias.
"...you want to be truly unselfish? Love someone or die for someone. Those are the only good deeds you can perform without any hope of personal gain."
Its always sunny season 4 struggled. Tobias does make arrested.

I think the more you watch Arrested Development, the better it gets because you start picking up on more and more jokes that run through the entire series. Even though he is basically the main character, Michael is used for story and for the most part, the jokes are left to the other characters, which is what really makes the series. The way that each member of the family reacts to the other members is more important than the story. I mean, I do love me some Sunny, but it's no match for Arrested Development.

Yeah, I agree I think I enjoyed Arrested Development so much because I sat down and watched every episode in a week.

I got sick of Tobias. My fav characters were Buster and George Uncle. But none of the AD cast can compare to Charlie.

I love both of these shows too much to decide.
And i think season four of It's Always Sunny might be my favorite. Some of the best moments ever. Charlie really might be my favorite character in the history of forever.
that's what season four of always sunny seemed to me, to be a bunch of really great moments. but the other seasons had good solid entire episodes.
still though, a bad season of always sunny is still better than anything else on tv right now.
Arrested Development.

I don't watch a lot of tv - it's hard for me to commit to a show and remember when it's on. I do love AD though and will probably now watch the entire series again on hulu.

I don't see any similarity between the two, except that they are both comedies.
I think Always Sunny is funny when watched occasionally, but it seems like the same formula in many of the episodes. Pick something controversial, have characters rationalize their terrible behavior, repeat next week. But then that's true of most sitcoms I guess, sticking to their formula. Also, I'm sure Arrested has its formula, it just seemed to have a little more depth and nuance to it, making watching every week worthwhile and not too repetitive.
Anyway, I guess if we're comparing two shows that seem almost completely different, I would pick Arrested.

Odd, because while AD told a story, and closed it out while people still liked the show, even the people who picked Always Sunny said they didn't really like the last season as much as those prior. A show with that format can only go for so long. It gets repetitive and trite, so much so, that if they try to drag it out, it's going to end up being cancelled with no viewers at all.
And just because a show gets cancelled, doesn't mean it wasn't good. There are plenty of shows on now that should be cancelled. Horrible shows...and yet they continue. But take a good show like...My So-Called Life. Brilliant, but cancelled after one season.

I agree, I like both shows - don't really like comparing them.
Its Always Sunny is so great because it is almost like they are mocking the "sitcom formula".

I'd rather be dead in Arrested Development than alive in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

The reason I compared the two, despite a lack of common ground, is because there seem to be a lot of folks around here that love one or both. I just wanted to see which one was more popular. It seems to be pretty tied.

Tied until I came in and said Arrested Development freaking rocks.

This thread inspired me to watch the entire series of Arrested Development. I hadn't seen it in so long, there were things I'd forgotten. I'm really enjoying seeing the show again.

AD didn't closed because they knew the series was ending. They didn't want to end it, they had to. The third to last episode was entirely made to laughably show off how desperate they were to continue the show. I don't really think that Always Sunny has a formula. Sure, episodes are similar, but look at last season's finale? That didn't step in line with any format they did before.
I agree that horrible shows are still on the air. Look at Simpsons and House. Should've ended years ago.
