Anyone want to make music together?
No, that is not a euphemism...
Anyone ever heard of Lacunae?
They're a band though they've never met each other. Read on...
The members of Lacunae have never met.
Their music has roots in the electronics of artists like Boards of Canada, Skinny Puppy, and Gary Numan; and in the dark, sexual undertones of Tricky and Portishead.
Kasten Searles: vocals, tape recorders, digital audio recorders, toy synthesizers, ukulele, ambient noise
Arson Bright: analog-modeling synthesizers, samplers, sequencers, field recordings
A. Peluso: samplers, digital synthesizers, samplers/triggers, sequencers
Kasten is currently located in Philadelphia, PA, Arson in Concord, NH, and A. Peluso in Columbus, OH.
Much of lacunae's sound can be attributed to their distinct songwriting process. The recordings grow from isolation. Kasten's voice travels to Arson. Arson's arrangements travel to A. A. recompiles the material for the listener.
What I'm wondering is, would anyone be game for a project like this?
I don't care what form it takes... it could be anything from people on the Cult here sending me samples of them talking, singing, playing instruments; then me mixing and compiling it. It could be each of five or six people making a different song with the same samples, one from each person in the group.
It could be instrumental, vocal, hard rock, electronic, prog, concept... whatever.
I just know there are a lot of creative people on this forum, and it'd be cool to see if we could put our heads together over the next several months and etch out some tunes that we all had a hand in, to some degree or another.
Post your ideas here.

Possibly. I've got a Pro Tools system rewired via Reason and all kinds of other gear. I prefer playing live instruments – anything with strings or keys (but can program drums pretty well). Personally not into ambient or loops as foreground music, which I assume might be the dominant preference here. . .
Let's see what kind of response you get and what folks' skills are and check in later.
I live in Concord. This is a fairly small town, I'm surprised I've never heard of him. But then again, it isn't like I'd have seen him at a show.

I'd totally be into it. There might be some logistical things to work out on my end, because I don't use computers, just old, self-contained digital devices, but I'm sure we could make it work. I program drums on an old Alesis SR-16, play bass and guitar, mess around with tape loops, and make a lot of noise with various old dimestore keyboards. I'd be cool with contributing any part ya need! Sounds like a fun project.

Hey, yeah... let's post links to our own stuff, if we have any. I'll eventually compile the list in the intro thread, or in another thread at some point, to have a collection of all 'collaborators' in one place.
I'm at: www.myspace.com/ireLocus
Adelheid: Don't worry about skill level or anything, especially not at this point. If you'd even be willing to throw some random noises into MP3 format, your voice, screaming, crying, beating on pans and doors... whatever... I'm sure myself or someone here could make a convincing loop out of the noise.
furleguy: Good deal. I'd love to have more than one person programming/mixing, etc... Once we have a headcount of people with recording software, we could easily split up responsibilities in different ways.
I have used Garageband lately, check out my myspace. It's all I had for when I was getting over cancer... needed something creative to do when all I did was sleep and fiddle on my Mac. Not one sound on that entire CD is organic, save the occasional vocal sample.
Anyway, there's no reason it has to be loop oriented or ambient music. We could do some straight up rock stuff, if you're game for that.
Giggan: So.. are you in?
Caligula7: I really dig the 'Sell The Kids' & 'Hum' tracks on The Paranoia Room... And 'Lost Again' is also interesting, such a stripped down sound. Not that I don't like the Circle of Noise stuff, but I think the style you've etched out is more cohesive in The Paranoia Room. For my taste at least.
Good stuff.
Well, I'm excited about this. I'm working on finishing up a spoken word thing for Jase, and I'd love to dive into something like this to start off the new year.

Also, a little about me and my musical experience.
I play guitar mainly, a little bass and a touch of piano and saxophone. I've been in metal bands, hard rock, progressive metal a little here and there, all the way to church music, classical music, blues; whatever. I've been playing guitar for eleven years.
The electronic music I have done recently has been merely an easily accessible creative outlet for when I was sick.. but it in no way represents the full scope and range of my musical tastes, interests or skills.
I can play Dream Theater with my eyes closed, but I can also serve up some laid back, chilled out blues if needed. You know, where you solo on one note for eight bars because you can, because it just gets more and more bluesy with each slight bend of that one note...
I can sing if needed, but I have a rather generic voice for my taste and would prefer to lay effects on my vox... but I know nothing about recording vocals and mixing them.
Anyway... that's what I bring to the table.

MySpace some old solo stuff.
Some band production (guitar also).

I'm currently in a progressive blues duo with my singer from the second link, but we're not quite ready to go online with it yet. Free time's hard to come by for awhile.

Ummm...I guess, not exactly sure how this is gonna work, but I'm down for anything that requires wingin' it.
I play bass and guitar okay. I've been fooling around with a keyboard lately. Used to play trumpet, but havent touched it in years. My musical influences would be Pink Floyd and Gansta Rap. I'm not sure how I'll be recording, my buddy has an 8-track I could probably use.

I added you on myspace, interesting stuff.
And I must say: Cool gear... I play a Peavey EVH myself, with a stop tail. Purple finish over the flamed maple... cause at the time purple was the only color guitar I didn't have. Unlike you, I settled on that one guitar, sold all my other stuff... and now I wish I had bought a different color.

I tell you what, guys, I'll bump this thread in a week or two, once people are all back from their holiday travels and such... not a ton of people around the Cult right now, and I want this to be open to anyone who is into it.
I can't wait.

this sounds good... i did 3 years of music technology at uni... i can muster up some sort of sound when the mood takes me.
i use my pc, Cubase and Reason. I play keyboard and guitar.
I'd be interested in this. I play guitar mostly and also do some drum programming and synth stuff. Everything I record is done using Sony Acid. Here is a link to some guiatr stuff I have done. It's a little outdated but it's all I have online right now.
http://patrick7mn.musicnation.com/
I'll see if I can contribute something, sounds pretty cool. I'm pretty decent at bass and am starting to mess around on drums and mandolin. Just gotta bug my roomy to let me use his recording stuff.
I would love to be a part of this. I was just thinking about this the other day actually.
Here's my myspace myspace.com/gobblersknob
Here's my website. www.gobblersknobband.com
I'll be checking out all of the music links posted so far, but I just wanted to throw my name on the list before it was closed or something.
No one has the right to teach us stuff we don't want to learn. That's what our Bill of Constitution's all about.
I'd like to be a part of this. I play a little guitar, but I don't know how to record myself playing. I'd need some one to help me out with that. I can also try to do whatever else is needed. I pick stuff up pretty quickly. I gotta say though, I am horrible at reading music.

The Postal Service was a bit like this as well. I think it's an amazing idea and I'd love to be a part of it, but for I'm not anything special, musically.
