Anyone seen either of these movies?
I just watched The Squid and the Whale last night thought it was excellent. Also just finished London today.
Thought Squid and the Whale was a beautiful movie, my favorite character by far was Walt, I think everyone can relate to act least one character in this movie, I empathized towards him because I was sort of a mommas boy, my parents like half the countries split up when I was young. Thought this character was amazingly written this kid should have one best supporting actor at the time fuck Haley Joel Osmond. Frank reminded me of all the nerdy kids from high school, who never really had many friends, always trying to talk and be intelligent, no matter what. It's weird how much he used to love his mother then leaned more towards his father when he grew up, I too was the same way but vice versa. Jeff Daniels is your typical know it all, no one is smarter than me, dick character but was perfect for the part. And Laura Linney always had that loveable mom but don't really know how to be a much part. This movie was great I suggest it to all.
London had Bateman(Jason Statham) in it who I love, he was a lose cannon coke head who meets a stranger Sid(Chris Evans), and they go to a going away party for Sid's exgirlfriend London(Jessica Biel), so they are up in the bathroom for hours doing coke and drinking and just talking about how shitty there lives are and about god, pain, and whatever else. I enjoyed this movie definatley worth checking out especially if you like Statham or Jessica Biel.
Anybody else see either, what'd you think?
I watched Squid and the Whale a couple weeks back. Powerful, but depressing. I've been the child of divorcing parents, and I've been a divorcing parent, and so much of that movie hit close to home. Even things I'd never do, like talk about my ex's pre-divorce affair, I can see the temptation to do that kind of thing. And all it'll do in end is alienate your kid, nobody wants to hear 'Mommy's a whore' stories.
And things like the younger brother drinking and even when Dad catches him at it, it's not even mentioned to the mother, because they're both so caught up in their selfishness they've forgotten to be parents at all.
It was a good movie on many levels, but I sure didnt' feel better for watching it.
Yeah, it definatley was not a feel good movie but it told more true in these situations then a whole lot of movies. I think this movie should have gotten more oscar attention, the acting performances were powerful and it total brings you in with these characters and what they are dealing with. Loved it.

Well, I think my ex summed the Oscar part up when I told her about it: 'Jeff Bridges, and it's a serious movie??'
When we call soccer 'football' the terrorists have won.
I haven't seen London but I did wath Squid and Whale a while back.
It was a very intense story about divorce and how everyone is so impacted by it. I admire the way the movie was done and think the characters were well developed. I appreciated this movie.
Glad to see others enjoyed it as well.
Good coffee is like drinking Rock and Roll.

You can't base a character on his past performances, I never thought of Dumb and Dumber once, plenty of people can play dumb or serious. Bridges did just fine in the role.

You're right, he's great in the role. Both roles, actually. I think Dumb and Dumber is stellar stuff. I'd be happy if stuff like that got more attention from the Oscars, really.
And he did great in the Squid & the Whale, I'm just slamming the whole 'serious movie' notion. Even serious movies I like, I dont' generally like them for being serious.

I've seen The Squid and The Whale. I really liked it even though it was some what depressing. I haven't seen London yet.
