anybody like metal?
I liked it in Metalocalypse how the writer's called the fast-food place Dimmu Burger. Was gigglicious.

That Metalocalypse is about too damn funny. It helps, of course, that I know someone who looks like everybody on the show. It hits REALLY close to home.
i fucking hate it when people call dimmu "mainstream" or "sell outs." they have something to say, and use their success to make their point. not to mention they deserve the record sales.

i didnt call them mainstream, i called them "mainstream" black metal. no black metal is mainstream...but as far as black metal goes, theyre as mainstream as it gets...other than maybe cradle (who i hate). but i wasnt insulting dimmu...i like them. i have several of their albums and ive seen them live twice.
and yeah...i love symphony x. michael romeo is nasty on guitar and russel allen has an outstanding voice. have you heard their new album?

no.

I could never get into Black Metal! I dunno what it is, maybe just of on the wrong foot but any band that co-operates opera in their music is a no-no. I know that they don't all do that, but it was first experience and it's tainted my opinion. You recommended a bunch of stuff to me on the covers thread that I'm down loading now. I got a bit board with metal about 6 years back, after every band i was recommeneded, for a startlingly long period, was either naff Black Metal or dull as fuck rap-Metal.
I still love a lot of the Replase stuff. Pig Destoyer n'all that. Never stopped listening to that. Still like my Dillinger Escape Plan and I have a major soft spot for a bit of Crowbar. Or a bit of Grind, some Brutal Truth and Naplam Death.:headbang: :32:

I do.
I didnt used to like most Metal at all, then I decided pay more attention to the musicianship, instead of vocal style. I didnt like the grunt/guteral sounds for awhile.
Ive been on the SomethingAwful forums for a few years and they put together a Metal mix, that helped me get alot more into it.

very few black metal bands use clean vocals, and youve most likely only heard melodic black metal. true black metal is bands like darkthrone, dark funeral, mayhem, emperor....
i tend to go for the melodic sounds, myself. like behemoth (old and new), dimmu borgir, opeth, old man's child, marduk...
go limewire some of that.

I think people get so uppity about their genres. For me there are only two genres, Jazz, and all that is not Jazz.
Metalheads are very particular about genres...moreso than fans of any other type of music. There are just more sub-genres in metal than there are with other genres. Metal sub-genres can be almost as different from one another as rap and classical or techno and country.
Metal is underappreciated
:headbang: :headbang:
If you like foreign metal Turmion Katilot kicks arse. It's like Rammstein....... on acid.
Then theres local small time talent in Aus like Parkway Drive and Behind Crimson Eyes.
Can't go past some good old System of a Down.
I could go on all day
Im bored today, so I decided to throw this together: http://www.artofthemix.org/FindAMix/Getcontents.asp?strMixId=112338
If anyone wants it, ill go ahead and upload it. Its about 200mb and runs 1:55:44.
I'd like you to tell me that you are a false prophet and that God is a superstition.
upload that jazz. its a good list.
cor- i agree about people getting up in arms about genre labelling. i admit, that i do it a lot, myself, but not nearly as much as other people. i keep it simple. black metal, death metal, thrash, and heavy, with subgenres like melodic or symphonic. thats it. i hate it when people lable things "sludge" or something.
love,
tom of the fjords
Okay, ill see how my connection is doing, it likes to shit out midway through uploads.
I have a few Doom/Sludge/Stoner/Funeral whatever...albums, I dont really understand that genre. the only bands I can stand to listen to are Isis and Ahab.
Whats the deal with it?
I'd like you to tell me that you are a false prophet and that God is a superstition.
Because my opinion is so awesome, you should all check out The Abominable Iron Sloth, alternatively, The Indominatable Iron Sloth. That is some sweet fucking metal.

I don't have a problem with metal, but I often encounter problems with metal fans. Those who don't take themselves seriously are great to be around; those who do are insufferable and ridiculous.

That's not something that could ever make anyone feel any better. Keep it to yourself, sicko.
When we call soccer 'football' the terrorists have won.
hehe I do enjoy the occasional metal jamfest. My boyfriend and his brother have gotten me into a few bands-I've gone to one show so far-it was all local bands though-none you'd have heard of. Very cool, though. Small venues kick ass. I love being like 2 feet from the band! Next time I must remember ear plugs, though... Anyhoo, I'm not really into labels, but I listen to lots of "indie" stuff, but I really like everything...except not country so much. I really like Muse, Tom Waits, Imogen Heap, The Mars Volta, Portugal. The Man, Modest Mouse, stuff like that. None of which are "metal," I realize. I'm not sure if they're metal, but have you ever heard of Fear Before the March of Flames or The Number 12 Looks Like You? They're both pretty awesome. I also like These Arms Are Snakes and The Melvins. Again, not sure if they're metal, but meh.
Oh, and Dimmu Borgir is pretty kick ass (at least the few songs that I've heard).
I'm mainly an alternative/indie person, but I do have my metal moments:
Opeth
Trivium
Daath
Killswitch Engage
The Black Dahlia Murder
Metallica (especially the S&M live album...that was like crack for me)
Chimaira
Rammstein
Caliban (new)
System of a Down
And yes, genres are pointless.
Shiit, I work at a music/book/video/gaming store and these two guys came in asking about Turmion Katilot, I couldn't find shit on them but I was immediatly interested. I'm pretty sure they were spelling it wrong, if that is the correct spelling you have there.
I fucking love metal.
Check the avatar! Anyone may feel free to steal, ahahahaha.
I love Gwar, a lot. And Slayer. But I've been to two or three Gwar shows, probably the most amazing experiences of my life. Burzum is good too. I love Norwegian metal.
Recently I've been getting into Mortician, anyone else like them? Fucking SO GOOD.
And of course a ton others already listed.. grindcore and crust, good stuff too.
But I've got to hand it to Carpathian Forest... hands down the rawest of raw.
Anyone else?
I strongly recommend Gojira. These past few days, all I do is listen to them. Some have called them the French version of Mastodon. They are a bit harder. More along the lines of death metal. But I love them. They are my new favorite band. I'd blow them.
Go to the Gojira myspace and listen to Flying Whales which I nominate for greatest song ever.
