Maybe its just me, but if I know a certain actor that I don't like is in a movie, I won't see the movie. I know sounds stupid, but otherwise I'll just sit there thinking about how obnoixious this person is and be totally unable to enjoy the film.

Some of my personal examples...

-Nicholas Cage. He plays TWINS in 'Adaptation'. Damnit. It looks good otherwise!

-Baldwins. They suck. I can sort of stand Alex, but only in small doses. I don't even know how many Baldwins there are. How is it possible that they all think they're actors?!

-Jack Black. Why do people like this guy? Seriously.

-Sandra Bullock. I won't really avoid a movie with her in it, but none of them have been good lately, that's for sure.

-Julia Stiles. Othello was rad, but what was with Save the Last Dance?! She has only one acting style and I hate it.

-Owen Wilson. I wish Ben Stiller would rid himself of this human parasite!

-ANY person who was a music star first. Just because you sing does NOT mean you can act!
--

Anyone else out there have this issue with obnoixious actors?

I think they should limit old people in films. De Niro gone. Crystal gone. Albert Brooks bye-bye. Michael Douglas see ya... just to name a few. I like these dudes when they were like under 40, but it depresses the hell out of me to see these really great actors all hot and full of heat and passion and stuff when they are young, but then they become like old and funny-looking and sorta annoying in how one-note their characters become. It's like an old joke that is no longer funny. What was I watching the other day... um... oh yeah... About Schmidt. Jack Nicholson was practically wearing adult diapers. I mean, I love Paul Newman too, buthe should quit about the time The Color of Money Came Out. Al Pacino should retired after Donnie Brasco. How many movies can a person do? Richard Gere... The Mothman Prophecies... he's like 53 years old and fucking Debra Messing on the floor of a closet while a real estate lady is walking around the house. Woody Allen... I love his movies, but everytime I see him now he looks sickly and old and liverspotted. It's like this dude at the gym I go to. I basically call him 'old-timer'. It's not original, I know, but he's old as father time and twice as saggy. It's like the dude in that Unforgiven Metallica video... he sits on the bench and his scrote touches the floor. Literally I have to like focus my tunnel vision not to get sick by seeing him. Clint Eastwood... Old. Marlon Brando... old AND fat. I'm sick of old people in movies. Get out of the way old people and let new people in. You had your chance. You made some great movies. Let sleeping dogs lie. Don't go out with a fizzle...

I admit it. I'm an ageist when it comes to movies. I'm not saying old actors aren't good, but when I watch a movie with an old person in it, and see them shuffling around with arthritic hands and age lines and wrinkles and liver spots and receding thin hair and, I dunno. It makes me queasy. It makes me less full of excitementabout the future...

Halle Berry - she just bothers me.

Kate Hudson - same reason.

Nicolas Cage - so annoying, he's the same in every single movie

Sandra Bullock - I agree w/you here...I don't think she's ever made a good movie.

I used to not be able to stand Nicole Kidman, but then I saw her in an interview and she was shy and funny and everything. My impression of her from seeing previews and pictures was that she was a snobbyish woman. Oh well.

You don't like Jack Black? Happy I think he's funny. His movies aren't all that great, but seeing him in concert was fun, and he's really nice when we got to meet him.

Why would him being dead change the way I feel about his acting abilities?

That's it right there...they make you realize what you're going to be seeing in the mirror years from now. This doesn't bother me and I would rather see old actors pre-face lift, with the wrinkles and liver spots, etc., than post-op. I recently saw a few photos of Al Pacino and I don't know for sure if he's fucked with his face, but something was not right. He had that typical face-lift surprised look in every one. I think it's quite sad the entertainment industry won't let actors and actresses age gracefully, but it's also our fault, too, because collectively, we want to see beautiful young people on the big screen.
Jimmy Stewart makes me want to kick stuff.
Jennifer Love Hewitt has the same effect on me, even though I've only seen her in one movie.

I like Nicholas Cage, and as far as people being the same in every movie, Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts fit that bill a helluva lot more. I also like Jack Black. Even if there's an actor/actress I don't care for in a movie, I don't let them stop me from seeing it.

Good call on Halle Berry. I heard Gothika was good and wanted to see it, then I heard she was in it and thought better. I avoid lots of good movies because of her. She annoys me. I don't find her attractive in any way. It's like Jada Pinkett-Smith. I avoid movies with her in it too, sort of for the same reason...

Kate Hudson was good in that rock band movie, Almost Famous, as the groupie. Then she went downhill. That movie was her at her peak...

Nic Cage. I love the dude in Leaving Las Vegas. Other than that, he just keps getting worse and worse, and those fucking summer blockbuster movies, The Rock... Gone in 60 seconds, etc.. annoy the hell out of me...

Sandra Bullock. I actually sort of like her, more her stuff years ago. Now she is the same old stuff. Always some quirky lovable twit who always finds herself at odds with her leading romantic interest in an old school romantic comedy sort-of-way... although Murder By Numbers was sorta fun...

Nicole Kidman is rad. She'll never beat her role in that movie Dead Calm. Her and Cruise in Days of Thunder is fun stuff. Billy Bathgate sucked. Malice was amazing. My Life was boring. To Die For was rad. far and way was mopey melodramatic. I hated Moulin Rouge. Batman Forever... uh-huh. Potrait of a Lady, great. Peacemaker.. suck. Practical Magic... suck. The Hours... boring. Birthday Girl awesome. The Others... I dunno, sorta okay. And Stepford Wives remake looks cool...

I like JackBlack too, but after seeing school of rock and the DVD extras from his MTV video diary, he is getting sort of old, like not so funny anymore. It's funny how he's been around forever, like since 1992 and Bob Roberts, but he justnow hit it big. I love his Mr. show stuff and Tenacious D is okay in a what-once-was-cool-will-soon-be-too-mainstream for elitists like myself... sort-of-way. It's wierd. To me, the role that cracks me up the most in a so bad it's good way is from I still Know What You Did Last Summer... where he plays Titus the afro-jamaican white guy dope dealer loser...

He doesn't make movies anymore. You don't HAVE to watch him. Really, you didn't evenmention his acting ability at all. Just that he, James Stewart, makes you wanna kick stuff. I was more wondering why some dead guy makes you wanna kick stuff. Why even think about him? He's dead and buried and his movies are old and only available on home video or old tv. I can't recall the last time I came across random Jimmy Stewart stuff. I mean, even if he did make me want to kick stuff, it'd be like I'd never see him or hear his voice making me want to kick stuff...

See, that's wierd to me. I used to, maybe as a teenager, not really care that much or mind, but now when I see a movie and say Halle Berry is in it, I can't do anything the entire movie but sit and think about how annoying she is, even if she isn't onscreen...

And your and Malakaiii's mentality is a bit weird to me, too. Although Jennifer Love completely ruined Heartbreakers for me, which wasn't even that good to begin with even though it had those hotties Jason Lee and Gene Hackman in it and I like Ray Liotta and Sigourney Weaver, even if she was in another movie I really wanted to see, I'd see it. I guess I just don't despise anyone enough to keep me away from certain flicks.

It's not that I despise any actors. I guess I don't get how NO ONE makes you ever feel, like, "wierd" or something when you watch a movie or tv or something. Like Alan Thicke. He just looks like a child molester to me, with his pedophile sweater and his damn Celebrity Pictionary. And that fat dude on the NEW Family Feud is like makes me sick. And that old lady in Driving Miss Daisy and Fried Green Tomatoes makes me feel "funny". Yes. I saw Fried Green Tomatoes in the threater when it came out. I ws dating a girl named Heather. This was like in high school in Astoria Oregon at this old-timey theater with a balcony and those chandelier things that hang from the ceiling and red velvet seats from I guess before "the war". She made me see it if I wanted to get some. I remember afterwards we parked down by the State Park coast battery in her parent's creme-colored Dodge caravan with optional leatherette cupholders and folding velour captain's chairs, well, I got rug burns on my knees from fucking her over the backseat, ya know, being so tall i had to like recline her and mount her with my pants around my ankles and my fet wedged beneath the front seats and like halfway through it, or maybe more like two-thirds of the way through it, some dude drove up and aimed one of those spotlight car things on us and we froze and they drove off and yeah, Hessica Tandy makes me feel funny... she's dead too I think...

Hold up. I never said no one never makes me feel "weird" or whatever. Bob Saget, for instance, makes my skin crawl, and there's something about Renee Zellweger and Nicole Kidman that makes me want to pinch their faces off, even though I like Bridget Jones's Diary, To Die For, and other movies they've done. And I winced in that one part in Fried Green Tomatoes when Jessica Tandy is talking about how good they are and she makes that kind of slurping sound. My point is that I haven't yet let any single actor or actress stop me from watching a movie, like you have with Gothika because of Halle. But I understand where you're coming from because she's the star and if you can't stand her, then of course you're not going to want to see it.

Halle Berry's acting is boring. She looks so airbrushed too.

Why did you like Birthday Girl, Brock? Paul Newman was very adequate in Road to Perdition too. His salad dressing is good.

The only Nicole Kidman movie I like is To Die For. I didn't mind Eyes Wide Shut. What really made me dislike her acting was The Others. The amount of times she said 'Shh children!'

Not just the star, mind you, but I skipped that Billy Bob Thornton film too because of her, the one where they have hot jungle love, like he's a racist prison guard and she's Halle Berry and they fuck. Also I hated that dad in that movie, even though I never saw that movie because of Halle Berry. The dad is like Everybody Loves Raymond's dad. He can't play anyone else, unless you count his old role which was good in Young Frankenstein...

Peter Boyle shoulda retired after Young Frankenstein...

Birthday Girl was awesome. She is very sexy in it. Sexy in a I'm a russian- mail-order-bride- hottie-who- can't- speak-english- but- likes-sex- a- lot-sort- of- way... Plus, I like this dude in it...

He was in La Haine. Liked that too. Crimson Rivers was just so-so, but he was in it. He's in lots of stuff. Mostly good...

Road to Perdition bored me. I almost didn't watch it 'cause I hate Tom Hanks so much, but I only watched it because it was a old-timey Irish Mob movie and I like stuff like Miller's Crossing. Newman was okay in it, but it's nothing he hasn't done before and better. I dunno. Really he wasn't much in the film. I don't count that as oneof his movies. He didn't take up enough screen time. He's Paul Newman for chrissake... and even though he is a fascist salad dressing purveyor, I still like him, but nothing beats him as a young dude...

Burbs was fine. Big was good. I really Liked Joe versus the Volcano. I'm just saying that there is just too much Tom Hanks. TOO MUCH. I coulda done without Green Mile and Apollo 13 and Cast Away and That Thing You Do and Philadelphia and A LEague of their Own and Turner and Hooch and Dragnet and so many... It's like Travolta. forget the main character. I thought that dude was annoying. This film is all about the band. I hated that kid. He was so emo. She was the hottest of the sex groupies. Her and Billy Crudup made the film happen for me...

Travolta was always a whiny bitch. I watched Pulp Fiction today, which I haven't done in about a year, and his character was the most irritating by far. Michael was one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Turner and Hooch. I found it endeering at the time, although I did see it when I was about 7.
Philadelphia was a really good film! Green Mile, Apollo 13 and Cast Away get a sneer, especially Cast Away and the bitch of a co-star, Helen Hunt? Catch Me If You Can was a B/B+ in my markbook.
I saw That Thing You Do recently and it was so shite. It sort of reminded me of Empire Records: A film that dates really badly and survives wholly on its soundtrack.

Al Pacino's shite now, it's genuinely sad...same with Steve Martin. It would've happened to John Candy too. Wait, it did happen. I don't think it's any of these older actor's acting, in most cases, it's the plotlines.

Anyone from Friends ruins movies. Except for Office Space. The only two exceptions. I didn't let Jennifer Aniston ruin it for me. Also Band of Brothers (even though its a miniseries), I didn't let David Schwimmer ruin that either. Other than that, any film with people from Friends sucks.
I dunno. Schwimmer was in that Stephen King Nazi film with Ian McKellan and I liked that. Also he was in Crossing The Bridge... one of my favorite teenage films. I say teenage, because that's when I first saw it and I liked it a lot... it's pretty cool.. he plays a stoner in it...

I liked that the first time I saw it. Then I realized I only liked it because of Amanda Peet's naked boobs. Then I got tired of Amanda Peet's boobs. Now I no longer like it...

Apt Pupil? Brad Renfro too. I saw Ian McKellan in a supermarket in London. He had all very low fat and vegetarian products.

Yeah. That was it. It's not a great film, but I liked it...

McKellan is a wierd sort, but hey, he can act. I never saw any of that Lord of the Ring stuff, but I liked him in Bent, Gods and Monsters, Six Degrees of Separation, Richard the III, Restoration, and Rasputin...

For me, it's Jim Carrey. I absolutely cannot watch a film with him in it. I can't take it. I start to watch it, trying to keep from puking, but it never works. Jim Carrey's career shoulda went out with Ace Ventura.

The new generation of film critics is born, and the result is frightening.
