An unbiased opinion about my band...
Thanks to klopper (for introducing me to soundclick), I've uploaded a few of my band's songs. check them out and let me know what you think:the Mods

And in case you're curious, I play the drums, along with writing several of the songs as well.
I JUST uploaded the MP3s, so until the songs are cleared by the site, you can only listen to the lofi version. check it out.
Oh, and by the way...we're trying to come up with a new name for the band, and you ALL know how much I value your input, so...any suggestions? Consider our sound when making names. I know some names are great, but what might suit one band might not make sense for another.
Well, here I go. Unbiased...
1)The guitar is very repetitive. The first 3 songs sound too similar because of this.
2)Who ever is on vocals needs to go, the frist 3 songs are way to whiney
3)I actually like the drums, they are unique to each song and show that you are certainly skilled.
You'll notice I mention the "first 3" tracks twice above... I actually kinda dug "So Much Just Almost Happened". The guitar sounds different from the others, and the vocals sound as if they came out of a different person than the others... Hmm, did they?
Granted, some of these things might go away if there production value was higher, but that cost money, something I am guessing you don't have much of.
Keep at it though.
Thanks. Now I get to explain that we don't really have a lead singer. our rhythm guitarist has taken over the position of singer for the time being. We're having trouble finding a decent vocalist because of our location. We plan on moving to atlanta later this year. That should give us plenty of options as far as recruiting a lead singer is concerned.
The first three songs ARE very restrictive in their style. The reason being, those were the first three songs the band wrote. The guitarists wrote them before I had joined, and we just recently got a bass player that's worth a shit. (that's why the bass is so unmotivated/lame on the recording--it was one of our many old bassists. He had NO creative input for the band. one of those guys that just wanted to be in a band because he thought it was cool)
This recording is about a year old. We've matured so much as a band. much tighter. We have about an hour and a half set at this point, the new songs being more diverse. For example, "so much just almost happened" was a collaboration between me and the lead guitarist. I wrote all the lyrics and the melody to the song in the back of a truck, listening to the song without vocals on the way to the studio to record. On the original recording, I sang the vocals, but singing live takes away from my ridiculous energetic effort on the drums. I'm all over the place, but I can't do that if I'm leaning over to the side to sing into a mic. and there's no way you're going to get me to wear a headset--fuck cowboy mouth. Anyway, on the recording you heard, it's the LEAD guitarist singing. Through our set as a whole, the vocals on the songs are split about half and half between our guitarists.
And yes. This recording is terrible. there are so many mistakes. We were rushed. it was basically intended as a demo for getting shows and our press pack.
I added a couple more tracks.
I wrote all the parts and vocals for primarily yours. I fucked around with how I wanted to sing the verses(yes, it's me singing), and although it's alright, I think I've overshot what I was going for.
And Sunny Afternoon is the other song I just uploaded. I like the music, but the vocals SUUUUUUUUUCKKK.
Hey man, It's good to hear that you at least realize where your strengths and weaknesses are. Knowing so will probably make you a much better band. Like I said, the drums were great, and I can imagine live that you get pretty nuts on them.
Keep on working at it, and keep us informed.
Thanks again sparq. I don't think I've ever seen you post, or don't remember, but congrats...you're the only person willing to take a couple of minutes to help me out with a little productive criticism apparently. and I commend you for it. I suppose you and I could have already covered most everything, but whatever...I'm just a little disappointed. I'd hate to sound like I was whining. I'll just single out the people I respect their opinion and ask them...You can't deny obligation like that without looking like a jerk. But I'm just joshin'. I really don't give a shit. I was just excited to have you guys hear it, because everyone has great taste in music here for the most part...but I...nevermind. I'm done.
ill check it out when the downloads clear
cool.
Actually, the downloads ARE cleared now. as well as the hifi streaming audio. I just checked.
Lacks focus on certain songs like Primarily Yours. There's a nice pop sound during some parts and I wish that song used it more. I don't like the sound of the guitar. It sounds like he's playing from a grunge pedal or a big muff. Or one of those small amps you can fit in a backpack. I can't hear a Bass. Is there a bass playing? I'm listening to it on my laptop so it's hard to tell.
The vocals sound very good on Londinium. It's a bit like BRMC on that song. But the other songs just don't sound right vocal wise. Like he's not as raspy and laid back as he is on Londinium.
Overall, it's not bad at all but I think you guys need to practice more and get tighter. Good luck. Being in a band is a lot of dedication and trust.

Thanks, like I said, those recordings are from like a year ago, so, yeah, we've improved a lot.
pretty good. but your no hanoi chevrolet or pariah caste or even ricky fitts. but yous guys are ok

i listened to sunny afternoon
verse is ok
hate the singer
and then when the chorus kicks in its like ohfuckshutthatoff
but the verse has some cool synth or something that makes it sound nice
reminded me of my bloody valentine, not so much for the actual sound, but the mood
the vocals are definitely the worst on sunny afternoon.
Most of my posts are probably in the "Web Site" section of the forum. I am usually tring to fix things that don't work for people around here. Or, and busy doing other site-related stuff.

jesus, I'm such a head case.
Thanks for showing interest, Atomos. Unfortunately, I don't think you or any of the band would be willing to make the commute from OR to TN(or vice versa) twice a week.
worse things have been done. i was just offering to voice over your mp3's and then remix them so it doesnt soound so much like a voice over. it could work.. i mean we could technically give just as relavent feedback to each other online
naybe try to stick some of my writing over top some music.. im bored and i got no job, so it could be done and it would keep me busy for an afternoon

I listened to the first one. It wasn't bad. The harmony was a bit out of tune, but mostly okay.
